I don't think is possible to make "Homelander" even more "villain" than he already is, his aura alone, reeks of pure unbridled evil. Anthony Starr/Homelander is like arguably, the top ceiling villain protrayal the industry have ever seen.

Soldier boy on the other hand is a "good side dish". Both those 2 should get again sometime in the coming season!

But who am I to complain when there's One Piece where the crew especially Luffy suddenly unleashing new gears in fights when we never saw him train for it...

She was gifted all along that her "intense feeling" was able to break an Iceberg., she was in possession of an ancient "waterbending scroll" that contained all the secrets of mastering, combative technique in water bending , she gained guidance from probably the best water bending master in the lore and she had the privilege of "shadowing" the actual Avatar!, master of all 4 elements.

Surely this kind of person would master waterbending quite fast...No?. Putting it down to just word of advice is a wee bit ignorant imo and saying the trainings were "easy" is out of context, if they showed all the training from said easy to the gruelling training you want will , most likely distract from the main plot line which is infact Aang and the show would have probably, unnecessarily span beyond 3 seasons.

I knew you'd say this...
But having an ancient scroll doesn't mean you suddenly master water bending in a few days...
For example I'm at episode 5 in the show and her growth in just a few days is insane...

And again, even in the source material...many of the training arcs went the same way...
Easy...

I mean it's a common issue in most anime where kids suddenly learn in a short time what should take many years...
But at least those kids mostly take a very hard route...

Here it always feels weird how easy it is...with just a few words and they improve so fast...
Even for Aang being the Avatar, yes he would always be able to bend all elements but shouldn't be so easy imo to learn it...


Btw, at episode 5 and yet to see why you guys are calling this adaptation terrible...it's not...
I can certainly see it's lows, but I think it deserves a season 2...
The season 1 of the source material wasn't even great so the adaptation deserves at least a second season where it adapts the great parts of the main show

Maybe you've not been watching a lot of good series or movies lately. I'm a hardcore fan of ATLA and I can't even finish an episode without dosing off. I downloading the whole One Piece series and watched everything in one sitting without feeling bored a bit.
Aang's storyline was just so flat- Aang is 12 years old bro 12 years!! and he doesn't even have fun throughout the show wtf!! He doesn't even have the space to make bad decisions.
Maybe the reason I hate it is because I'm not a regular movie viewer, but When watching movies or shows, I tend to watch their eyes and facial expressions, you can always tell when one is trying to remember a script and when they're not. Look at the acting of Meryl Streep or even the young actors of Stranger Things, you can definitely tell those actors can truly act and treat the Source material with respect. I think the Casting Director thought more about the appearance than the actual talent for this show tbh.
A -3/10 for me. Can't wait for the Animation show - the true representation of ATLA

ATLA has delivered wonderfully, the first season of the anime wasn't spectacular after all, and the writers of the show has done well to merge many aspects into one. CGI was perfect, Aang was great alongside Sokka too. Was glad to see monk gyatso. Character adaptation and likeness was top notch, felt like I was watching the anime again.

I don't read critics report about shows before watching it, synopsis and trailers will nudge me towards watching, and I form my opinion regarding the show. ATLA has been a great show for me. Make everybody dey follow robots get same opinion, probably the bandwagon effect is taking hold.

I finished One Piece at a single sitting...

I slept off 3 times on an episode of this Netflix ATLA. But yet I still don't think it's bad like you're saying...it's just not as fun

The most effective way to enjoy media or any art form for that matter is to make peace with the fact that everybody discern and perceive art differently, and for a show that is adapted from a highly successful franchise, the reactions were always gonna be mixed as the metric would always be to place it side by side with said highly successful predecessor.

Btw, most of the bad reviews you lot speak about is even mostly from fans, as critics have a mixed to favourable reaction to it, heck it's even fresh on RT! and scores elsewhere are actually decent.

Point being, People saying it is an okay attempt (like you) Valid, People saying it doesn't measure up to the original and the error margin is wide, also valid.

The way some people hold the source material like it's some Holy Grail...

These people forget the first season of the source material was it's weakest...maybe because they watched it during their childhood...

the adaptation isn't great but it's not bad either...

I feel like people are comparing the adaptation of the weakest season to the strongest parts of the cartoon...
