What's with the killings?
In the book of Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, You see the Israelites killing the inhabitants of a land and take over it.
Why?
They killed everyone, both young and old. Babies and women?
Why?
And to think they were ordered by God.

Especially the last chapter in Judges. They killed everyone in a land except the virgins so that the tribe of Benjamin can reprocreate.

Why is that?
Can someone explain?

They worship the God of Israel. The world can be destroyed but not Israel!

After the rebellion in the Garden of Eden God wanted to set up a nation that will serve as His own worshipers for all the nations of the earth to know the difference between the Almighty God and demons other nations worship back then.
So He used the Israelites as His own people to serve as the people of the one and only true God.
All the nations back then believe in the power of their Gods to help them in conquering their enemies and securing inheritance so the only true God first allowed Israelites to be enslaved in Egypt the world's most powerful nation back then for 400 years before sending two feeble octogenarians to go and represent Him before the greatest ruler of that time Pharaoh of Egypt.
All the nations of the earth heard what the God of Israel did to Pharaoh and his people so by the time Israelites started matching towards Canaan the land their God swore to give their ancestors if you were alive back then would you support any nation to stand in their way or support the representatives of the most high God?
Well most people relied on what the demons they were worshiping told them and they paid dearly for it but there are examples of people who proved to be wise like Rahab of Jericho and the Gibeonites, these people used their God's given brains to discern that this is not the time to be tribalistic or nepotistic rather it's time to join God's people in doing God's will.

Well He wanted to do that but Moses rescued the situation by telling Him that humans will think He has failed to settle them in the promised land. Exodus 32:11-14
Moreover there always prove to be righteous ones among the Israelites so He can't destroy the righteous along with the wicked! Genesis 18:25
