paxx:state governments establishing power plants will bring us back to where we were with federal govt controlling power (inefficiency). Best for private sector to manage it. If any state is ripe for private investments in power sector and investors sense there will be profits keying into that sector in the state, they will develope it and run it. I expect business men to start Lagos power soon. Also Rivers state Abuja and Kano should be lucrative for business. Era of hotel building by rich men will be over. 31 Likes |

paxx: Because geometric was a private company, done by someone with an active interest in the power problem in Nigeria. NO businessman would invest in power supply issues in Nigeria. Especially since there would be no sufficient return on investment due to lack of cost reflective tarrif, and the high cost of gas. I wish Prof Nnaji good luck, but he is going to have problems when it is time to collect tarrifs. Nigerians are notorious for not paying for power. When even Aso Rock is owing money to discos self... 26 Likes |

That man Barthomley nnaji used his money and borrowed some from other places to build then power plant for his people to enjoy the benefits. He built it for years without making one single noise till fruition. That is very good of him. ayokellany:Meanwhile, dangote is still building refinery in my lagos. He has been making noise about ut for years. Past Presidents have even commissioned it yet no single drop of fuel has been refined till today I'm even hearing that he will sell/export the first 1 trillion barrels that is refined to recoup his production expenses before he faces us the owners of lagos to sell small remaining fuel to us at his exorbitant rate 1 Like |

Tinubu during his time as governor brought this creative idea in front, but unfortunately, Obasanjo wasn't interested in Nation Building, you see this man in power, he's a blessing from God and an answer to our prayers, most people are just about to find out except the Igbo people crying for Igbo Presidency instead of good governance |

paxx:Gas turbine power plant is most sustainable power plant, for state that have enough gas deposit it will be hard for them to utilise because Gas is on exclusive list, Abia already have gas pipe line that pass through Aba and they are not far from where the source. |

nairalanda1: What do you mean he will have issues collecting tarrif? It is going to be prepaid. If you no pay, you no go even get light in the first place. When that one finishes, your light automatically goes off even when your neighbours have light. He ain’t losing. The only way he’ll lose is if thousands bypass meter which can’t occur because all the meters still belong to him. Make all these hotel builders diversify abeg 16 Likes |

Edo state already have a functional one for the past 3 years called the OSSIOMO power plant. But the thing with most of the these independent power coy is their service is not cheap but you are guaranteed of stable power supply except when there is an occasional maintenance. My barber around country home road, ugbor GRA, have to ditch NEPA light and pack up his generator for the OSSIOMO power supply. He said regardless of the higher tariff it's cheaper and better than running Generator as a result of of the Epileptic power supply from NEPA. Most businesses, middle and high income earners are beginning to embrace the OSSIOMO too. Although stable and highly efficient but it's not cheap. Truth is across the globe stable power/energy supply especially in western countries is not cheap. 3 Likes |

Re: Why Can't Every State In Nigeria Have A Geometric Power Plant??? by jowhyte(m): 10:18am On Feb 27 |
Bestmanfornow: Truth but considering the significant amount investors pumped into it installation and investors also wanting to make profit and at the same time investing to keep the power plant and it infrastructure to keep running , the common masses already used to cheap electricity bills or even illegal connection won't see the price point as being affordable. But middle/high income earners or businesses spending alot on 24/7 power especially diesel will say it's more affordable. If Nigeria should work, everyone must feel it one way or the other but the efficient services and awesome infrastructure will compensate for the cost but frankly speaking most of us are not ready for that. To many of us, as far as Nigeria has abundant amount of "oil" in the Niger-Delta everything should be free including evading and not paying the correct amount of taxes. 1 Like |

nairalanda1: He surely will not have issues collecting tariffs. The DISCOs do not have that as a problem. The metering system provides pre paid and post paid for those who can guarantee their payments as at when due. Certainly no one will steal power through the back door because it is a private initiative. If you do not purchase power, you will be in darkness. Look, Nigerians spend a lot of money monthly on the purchase of petrol and diesel for their generators. If you make an comparison of the cost of buying petrol and energy purchase, you’ll find the later far cheaper in the end. Geometric has done well. Let’s see others invest in the power sector. |

Cantonese: I agree with you, but you do not truly know the Nigerian mentality. Many Nigerians who are well paid in private enterprise and whose power bill is not up to 5% of their salary, still bypass the metering system for their high power consuming electrical appliances like Air Conditioners. It is very disgusting. 3 Likes |
