The Economic Confidential has released a list of ministers it identified as the "top 12 performers" in the President Bola Tinubu administration.

The publication, after reviewing the actions of the current Federal Executive Council (FEC) members, highlighted their efforts and achievements since assumption of office in August 2023.

Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike is in the list for establishing the FCT Civil Service Commission to guarantee career progression, ordering contractors to complete ongoing road, rail and township projects, and prioritising security measures, revenue generation, as well as the original Abuja master plan.

Minister of Finance and Economy, Wale Edun is included for reforms to revamp the economy such as removing fuel subsidies worth over N400bn monthly, spearheading alternative ways for generate more revenues, and expanding the scope of direct cash transfer schemes to millions of more households across the country.

Health and Social Welfare Minister, Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate: For attracting development partners to support Nigeria’s healthcare, introducing the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine into national immunisation, launching the Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) to improve maternal health, and facilitating $1 billion MoU towards the elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the list for clearing a backlog of over 200,000 international passports within a few weeks of his appointment, implementing automation of the passport application process, and facilitating the E-gates system at airports to reduce passengers’ physical contact with immigration officers.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Malagi: Recognised for regular press briefings on governance, decorum during interactions and comments, engagements with stakeholders to address burning issues, and unification of the National Value Charter which provides guidelines on citizens’ rights and government’s expectations.

The report acknowledged the plans by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola to generate $20 billion from the global blue economy worth $1.5 trillion annually, create two million jobs every year through marine activities, and support stakeholders within the maritime sector.

Minister of Women Affairs, Ohanenye Uju Kennedy is in the list for championing the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through criminal justice system reform, inclusion of women in peace-building processes, and hosting of capacity-building activities under the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) programme.

Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake: For decisive actions including license revocation, spearheading enhanced security measures, launching revised guidelines for community development agreements (CDA) to protect citizens near mining operations, and signing a MOU on technology capable of exploring mineral resources up to 10,000 metres below earth's surface.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite made the list for securing about $30 billion in foreign investment commitments in less than six months and facilitating bilateral agreements with Germany and the United Kingdom for artisan licensing skills to enhance the employability of youths.

Minister of Works, David Umahi: For warning contractors to meet the required standard within stipulated periods, forming a team of retired security personnel to protect construction sites and workers, and approving the use of concrete in most carriageways as it offers superior durability and less maintenance compared to asphalt.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo is credited with prioritising strict compliance with safety regulations for efficient air travel, upgrading of airports, runways, other aviation facilities and services, and improving capacity development to ensure professionals receive adequate training and support.

As I suggested some weeks ago, some ministers have no business in the cabinet:

emkz:
I propose to drop the following:

(1) Hanatu Musawa
(2) Lola Ade-John
(3) Bayo Adelabu
(4) Gboyega Oyetola
(5) Lateef Fagbemi SAN
(6) Senator Geidam
(7) Uche Nnaji
(8 ) Dr Bosun Tijani (I don't know what the hell he is doing). The most basic thing for him to do is to get us a functional database. Let us get everyone captured by NIN. How can you plan without data?
(9) Minister of Education: he is confused.

I'd also ask the president to advertize the jobs so that unknown members of the public and those in diaspora can apply and they should be screened. I'd ask the president to hire a reputable recruiting firm to grill nominees on their programmes and what they want to contribute to national development. This is necessary because the senate screening is clearly a joke. Let us change the way we recruit public servants and not leave things to politicians.

Questions we can ask:

(1) Identify the functional ways to address low food productivity nationwide that can produce results in two months.
(2) Assuming you are given portfolio xyz, what targets do you set for yourself for the next six months to two years?
(3) Let them study the party manifesto and explain how they'd implement the plans.
(4) What do you understand by the public procurement system and accounting?
(5) Write an essay on the development agenda you'd like to see working for the country. Identify the defects in your proposal.
(6) Then gather all of them in a room and give them case histories of Nigeria's current challenges. Give them 2 hours to brainstorm and 1 hour to put their thoughts together to advise the president.
Finally, let the ministers sign an undated resignation letter and let them know they'd be on probation for three months, and their continued stay in the cabinet would be tied to performance.

Imagine Hanatu Musawa clearly has no clue what to do with a big ministry. Imagine Lola Ade John going missing since her confirmation. Imagine Bayo Adelabu jumping from one party to another as if he thinks ministerial appointment is for fun.

To add to that list, Dr Doris Uzooka Anite needs to be shown the door for lacking experience in signing that MOU with Kemi Badenoch for UK lawyers to practice in Nigeria and celebrating it before she was heavily resisted.

Also to go is the Minister of Transportation. No one knows his name.

We don't hear much from the Minister of Water Resources and whoever is the Minister of Environment.

The ministry of youth needs to be shut down. The relevance of that ministry is not clear.

Tunji Alausa needs to leave the Ministry of Health and take charge of Humanitarian Affairs.

The president also needs to carefully examine the young ministers. Many of them need to go as they lack experience to head ministries.

El Rufai needs to be brought in to fully head the petroleum ministry. We need a well known mad person in that ministry. Merge it with power and call it ministry of energy resources.

As Minister, once your PR team is solid, you'll have the dumb Nigerians in your pocket singing you praises.

Less than 4 months after coming on board, the dumb guys started saying the interior minister is the best performing minster simply because he made passport acquisition process easier for the japa crew.

Does his mandate begins and ends with passport matters only? Look around you, there are hundreds of illegal immigrants walking freely on the streets of Nigeria, but because he made the passport process easier, he's the best minister.

Betta Edu wanted to follow that part, but the oloshoism in her and her stealing traits didn't let her do it well.

As far as I'm concerned, no political office holder is doing anything because they didn't structure the country for them to do anything other than to chop and share slots..

For you to be labeled the best performing minister, 80% of the entire populace must feel your impact, not just people seeking to exit the dungeon.

Alake is a misfit in the solid mineral arena. He needs a change of portfolio

Umahi is working good same as Tunji-ojo but for his scandal with Betta.

Wike is excellent but a meddlesome interloper in his former office.

Uju baby (women affair) is pretty good but she seems to be doing too much of drama and "eye service".

The minister for state labour should be made the substantive head of that ministry, she is a perfect fit.

Oga Festus is neither here nor there but he is learning the ropes. Can still be managed for another 6 months.

Health is pretty ok

Transportation is lost

Blue economy should be scrapped

Lateef can not shine because Ariwoola is covering his destiny. I understand the setup

Defense and Budget. These guys should be with efcc

Doris should be made to resign ASAP for her diplomatic goof with Badenoch.
Besides, Baba and Seyi seem to have taken over her job.

Edun, one of the Lagos whiz kids is just realizing that ''Nigeria no be Lagos''. He is picking up stamina gradually.

Education is confused.

Information thinks he is one of the presidential spokespersons. He's confusing his office with those of Bayo and Ajuri.

Only Tunji Oji and Dave Umahi
But even both of them have soiled hands
Tunji on the Edu scandal
Umahi for conniving with cement guys like the dangotes to build roads with cement, which cracks under intense heat and motorization. The ones they built in the country are not longer viable. This shot the the cement prices up even before tinubu’s failed currency floating kicked in

Without restructuring this country to give power to the federating units, 80% of Nigerians cannot feel the impact of the government.

The best way to make this happen is to allow governors control their resources, control their police and pay 10% tax to the federal government.

The federal government will scrap almost all the useless departments and agencies that cannot generate money for itself while keeping a few ministries to focus on policy making and implementation. In the end, the state commissioners do the real infrastructural projects.

What I don't get is how APC keep lying they have stopped paying fuel subsidies when it's obviously a lie

In fact we are paying more in subsidies now than we have ever paid in the history of Nigeria

Don't know why this lie is allowed to stand

I recently accidentally ran into an interview granted by the Minister of solid minerals, Mr Dele Alake. It was fascinating.

I think this guy is a dark horse as a potential most impactful Minister.

He is in a Ministry where successive ministers have failed woefully and he is making tremendous changes there.

I will be following his progress in that ministry.
