A 49-Year-Old Man Identified As Gbolahan Aina was on Saturday killed when a truck rammed into him on Henry Carr Street, in Ikeja, Lagos State.

One of our correspondents gathered that the driver of the truck identified as Godwin Donatus ran over Aina as he tried to reverse the vehicle, marked KJA-74 XQ at about 7 am on Saturday.

A Source told our correspondent that the deceased was confirmed dead by the doctor at a hospital in Maryland.

“One Mack truck with registration number KJA 74 XQ, driven by one Godwin Donatus, while reversing his truck, did not notice that Gbolahan was there and accidentally ran him over.

“The victim was rushed to Maryland hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” the source said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, while confirming the incident to our correspondent, disclosed that the body was deposited at the Maryland Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy.

He said, “The corpse was evacuated to Mainland General Hospital and the body was deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy. Further development will be communicated.“

Meanwhile, an angry mob on Friday night reportedly set ablaze a Hilux Toyota vehicle after the driver rammed into bystanders, killing three people and injuring two others around the Kara-OPIC bus stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The white Toyota Hilux vehicle with number plate EPE80J was said to have suffered brake failure after which it lost control and rammed into bystanders at about 8:15 pm on Friday. bus stop killing three people and leaving two others injured.

The spokesperson of Ogun State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, who disclosed this in a statement made available on Saturday, explained that the accident involved six people comprising five males and a female.

It was learnt that the injured victims were taken to the Lagos Emergency Centre, Ojota, for medical treatment while some persons from the Kara market who claimed to be relatives of two of the deceased took their remains for burial.

The corpse of their victim was said to have been deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.

The statement partly read, “The crash involved a (white) Toyota Hilux with registration number, EPE80J. The cause of the crash was brake failure; the vehicle lost control and ran into people standing at the bus stop.

“The vehicle was set ablaze by angry people due to the killing.

At least three fatal accidents were reported on that axis of the expressway last week. Last Thursday, five people died while four others were injured in an accident that occurred around Fidiwo Bridge, near Ogunmakin along the expressway.

On Wednesday, February 28, another crash around NASFAT killed five people and left 10 others injured. The crash was blamed on reckless driving.
