What Makes A True Christian?

A true Christian simply put, is anyone who follows the teachings of Christ.

This is according to Webster, Cambridge, Oxford, Collins dictionaries and also Wikipedia.

The word 'Christian', actually emanated from the world. They were the ones that first called the disciples of Christ, Christians, hence they should know a thing or two about what the word really means.

"And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." (Acts 11:26)

Prior to this, Christians were called disciples of Christ, and this is what a true disciple means according to Jesus.

John 8:31 (KJV)

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

So as you can clearly see, the definition of a true Christian according to the "worldly" dictionaries tallies with that Jesus gave of a true disciple.

A true Christian or disciple of Christ is one who follows the teachings of Christ.

So where the heck did the common idea that 'Christians' follow (the teachings of) the Bible emanate from?

You can clearly see for yourselves from Christ's teachings that it's didn't come from Christ.

It didn't come from the world either because there no single "Bible" mentioned in any of those definitions given of the word in any of them, but only the teachings of Christ just as it was with the definition of a true disciple of Christ by Christ Himself.

So even the world knows what it means to be a Christian more than most who claim to be Christians.

That's most unfortunate but the truth.

After I began to fully follow the teachings of Christ, instead of the Bible as most Christians do, i actually preferred to be go by "disciple of Christ" instead of "Christian", because of the different definition given to the word and also the different lifestyles and beliefs had by so-called Christians which didn't align with what Jesus defined a true disciple to be.

I even thought the fact that the world, not Christ, first called the disciples of Christ "Christians", was responsible for the departure of the church from the original principles and standard set by the disciples of Christ in those early days, of fully following the teachings of Christ as Christ Himself taught them to do, which aligned with my own lifestyle and beliefs instead of what we have of so-called Christians of today.

I thought it was actually a strategy of the devil to deviate the church from fully following the teachings of Jesus, using his children (the world), until I came to the dictionary to find out that it actually defined the word "Christian' as "anyone who follows the teachings of Christ" to my utter astonishment.

Prior to that, in my whole life of following the church and her leaders, i had never once heard anyone of them, define a Christian to be someone who follows the teachings of Christ.

It was instead always the Bible, the Bible, the Bible, the Bible, never the teachings of Christ as Christ Himself taught us in John 8:31.

So without Christ Himself showing me Himself to follow His teachings instead of the Bible as most Christians do, I was never going to get it from the church or from the so-called Christians who call themselves by His name.

That's really shameful because that shows how far the church and most so-called Christians have deviated from the teachings and example of Christ.

It also suggests why Jesus said He would deny knowing most who claim to be Christians, because most of them don't truly know Him or follow His teachings.

The word "Christian" itself already suggests its meaning is derived from Christ.

It's not the Bibilian or Paulian, that it would be defined by the teachings of the Bible or apostle Paul.

It's Christ-ian, so it makes logical sense that it is defined instead by the teachings of Christ.

But alas, the so-called Christians have become too blind to realize that obvious logic.

They'd rather stick to man-made traditions, ideas and beliefs that most part of the church have embraced overtime and being taught as doctrine in the church instead of that which Christ Himself gave us.

They have hence made the teachings of Christ (Word of God) to be of little or none effect in their lives, and by extension the church, which has consequently become a caricature of what it used to be when Christians (disciples of Christ) fully followed the teachings of Christ not those of someone else.

Until the church goes back to fully following the teachings of Christ as it used to be in those early days, they would only keep chasing shadows, and would never be able to experience the Spirit, Power and Glory of the early church which followed the teachings of Jesus.

Methodist: It is accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior and publicly sharing that acceptance by getting baptized through sprinkling of water.

Baptist: No, no, no -- you must be DUNKED in water, heathen.

So are Christians, they will eventually live the exact way Jesus Christ lived. Unfortunately, many people (even pastors) who claimed to be Christians are not but mere believers. The Bible is clear on this and history supports it. You ask yourself why people of Antioch couldn't differentiate between Christ and his disciples, even the Romans who went to arrest Christ couldn't even pick him out from among his men. Now ask yourself this question, how many people are following the teachings of Christ? You get the point now
