Merci mais j'apprends encore

I have no idea of how the French institute is run.
The country was relatively cheaper to reside in until the Naira fell like a pack of cards.
If you have a way of earning fcfa and not converting Naira for your upkeep in Cotonou then you would prefer Cotonou to Lagos.

Please which African country can I migrate to with the sum of 2 million naira, not to job hunt but for business solely. My plan is to do business for a while then move abroad from the country. I'm 31 and a graduate, I would have preferred an European or good Asian country but I know the cash won't be enough.

I checked the travel section but most of the posts seem outdated. I heard Benin Republic and Ivory Coast are nice destinations and business friendly but I have very little information about them in fact I don't even have an international passport so I need as much help as I can get.

My priority is to travel abroad as soon as possible so I would like a country that can make that easy. I am ready to learn a new language to that effect.

Hello 👋
I think this is my condition right now. I am about to start my business in Nigeria but the fear of this unstable Nigerian economy is giving me a second thought.

How far with your relocation process to this stated Francophone countries?

I really need guidance.

If you are good in French try Ivory Coast within two years if you know what you are doing people will think you do money ritual

This sounds promising. I intend to relocate to Abidjan, Ivory Coast to set up my business there as I don't think it would thrive in Nigeria.

I'm even already learning French, I'm an A1 French speaker by CERF standard but learning continues on Duolingo.

How can I navigate Ivory Coast?

What business do you think will thrive there and one can make it?

MrNovo:

- Hustle more, sell off most of furniture and stuff you won't be relocating with
- Convert any cash at hand to USD or XOF to avoid further loss of wealth from Naira depreciation
- Add 95k FCFA (1 bedroom flat) for 3 months accommodation. Add to previous estimate for Shop rental you already short of about 250k francs . So you have about 550k fcfa left from your N2m in today's rate.
- Feeding is always tricky. If you can adapt to the local food then 30k fcfa per month is okay. But if you go around like me looking for Egusi and Afang soup or Jollof and fried rice then 90k fcfa will be your minimum monthly.
- So plus minus you left with N1.2m to procure your goods. Set aside N200k for logistics bringing those stuff from Lagos to Bénin, settling customs. You will make good profit and the exchange rate will help triple it when you convert back to Naira to restock.
** That's the much I can think of. Those estimates, I have given is for Porto-Novo, Bénin, Cotonou is more expensive, just as Togo is more expensive than Cotonou and Cote d'Ivoire more expensive than Togo. They all use the same XOF currency which has its advantage if you are ready to think out of the box.
*** If you are a online/digital hustler, any of the XOF countries I listed above will boost your productivity as electricity is available 247

For me, I've already purchased the equipment I would need for my business.

I'm so contemplating not starting my business in Nigeria anymore and travel to Ivory Coast, survey my market and business prospect, get an accommodation and a business centre to rent, apply for business visa & temporary residence as the case maybe, then come back to move my business machineries to Ivory Coast.

My business needs 24/7 electricity and I'm hoping it would be on high demand there , but I still need to come & survey the place.

I've been learning French on Duolingo and I'm already an A1 French speaker.

Long term goal is to move from there after sometime to a first world but I want to build a business first.

Please what do you advise? I need serious guidance.

And another thing, I can teach English & Maths too to add to the business.

You are good to go.
Maths and French language skill in place, that's great.
Ivory Coast is nice, so I hear, never been there, would like to make a quick visit before the year ends. Most french speaking West Africa is accomodating and offers orderly living.
Your life, not just your business needs 247 electricity. However do note that housing is pretty expensive in these countries but not yet like the Western countries I have first hand experience. So for a start you will stay away from the capital city.
You don't need any sort of visa. However if you love the place and want to extend your stay then it's advisable to process a residence permit and have your business fully registered.
The currency is valuable, Stable and useable in more than 5 countries. Well at the moment the opportunities are endless because these countries are still developing this offering lots of business opportunities.
Remain blessed

Thank you for your words of encouragement.

I will plan very well before any movement.
You mentioned to stay away from capital city. That’s Yamoussoukro. It’s Abidjan I’m considering but instinctively I think the cost of living there would be as high as the capital city.

But 🙏 MrNovo. I’m still on it.

Abidjan is a port city and their commercial capital like Lagos, so you understand grin. The cost of living there will double Yamoussoukro.
A first timer needs a less expensive area while still trying to understand the culture and environment.

Great thread.

It's wild how people will save all this money to go somewhere and struggle, or get sent back. A fraction of that money could start a bunch of successful businesses, or acquire some rental property in neighboring countries.

There's a thread on Cote D'Ivoire with a lot of info, just do a search.

People were saying good things about Senegal, but it seems like the country is having issues now. IDK

After researching, I was only able to find this one. If you have another thread with a lot of info, can you share them here?
