Sapiosexuality: You can start with a 24V system. I already have a 60amps MPPT (Powmr). How many watts of solar panels will take? 1600W What KVA inverter will be fine for it? 3.5KW How many ah of lithium battery? 200AH or 5KWH. OR A 48V System I already have a 60amps MPPT (Powmr). How many watts of solar panels will take? 3200W What KVA inverter will be fine for it? 3.5KW to 5.5KW How many ah of lithium battery? 100AH/5KWH to 200AH/10KWH Above is the minimum, you can do as the budget permits you. 2 Likes |

Dam5reey: Will it be detrimental to my batteries (2*220ah tubular,2.5kva smarten,2*475w(produces 700-900w at peak sunlight)) to run a 1hp dual inverter AC on it during sunlight peak hours?? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Sapiosexuality(m): 3:44pm On Mar 13 |
Dam5reey:I think I will work with the first option. Thank you. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dam5reey(m): 4:16pm On Mar 13 |
icjunior: 700w to 900w is only available from 11 am to 3 PM.. that's only 4 hours. Only your AC will consume all the energy produced and nothing goes to batteries. also what happens during cloud cover, your Batteries will have to handle about 600W of load which is too much for longevity's sake. For AC to run Add an extra 1KW to power the AC. To run ACs with these small batteries, get a minimum 2600w in Panel. 1 Like |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Parser: 4:50pm On Mar 13 |
jasp12: Why not go for a 3.5KW SMS sunmate hybrid inverter. Probably with a 2Kwh battery bank. And and let's say a 1.5KW or 2Kw solar array. Might be best value for money as you can expand. Other perks: DC breaker, transient protector. The hybrid inverter comes with it's cc. Cost around 350K. Like play like play 850 don go, except prolly u go do without battery...just dey flex am for day time. Keep in mind, it is better to do DIY that you can easily expand on without selling parts. Open to corrections. All the best. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Drgreatone: 5:06pm On Mar 13 |
icjunior:U sud consider adding to ur panels. That 700w might hardly power ur AC not to talk of charging ur batteries unless u dont need the charging part. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Drgreatone: 5:10pm On Mar 13 |
Dam5reey:With that load, a 5kva wud be his best choice unless he's getting a tier 1 3.5kva with actual capacity that can deal wit running 50% continuous load. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Drgreatone: 5:16pm On Mar 13 |
Parser:That sms inverter price u quoted, when did u cost it? It was 440k abt 2 weeks ago. The 850k might just be barely okay for a 12v solar system with todays market price |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bassdow: 9:15pm On Mar 13 |
icjunior:Abeg no try am Ooo. Those batteries no go see enough Juice drink. In other words, lets assume the battery was down by 20% the previous day, today e dey try charge but you dey suck from both battery + solar panel hence solar panel no go get enough to feed you + battery hence by end of that day, the battery fit do charge but e no go full and by tomorrow morning, it now would be down by 25% or more and that would continue till the day the battery would be down by 70% or more. For your mind, everything dey work BUT unknown to you, the battery is rarely fully charged daily. e be like make person (solar panels) dey fetch water (current) put inside drum (battery), make plenty people (applainces e.g TV, AC, Lights, etc) dey collect from am. e go need plenty more time to full AND if person (solar panel) wey dey try fill the drum (batteries) no plenty or fast enough, e go need so much more time e go dey in days. Also, using 2pcs of 12volt 200AH batteries for 2KVA and above na just punishment for the battery. e no go last at all. before the year runs out, e go weak. Gradually, the inverter go begin cry by 3am. Gradually that 3am go reduce to 2am, then 12am, then 10pm, then 7pm, so tey e go reach stage wey be say as soon as sun close work, lights go off. When that time reach, na you go dey blame battery say na fake or say charge controller or solar panels no work well when in real sense, una overwork the battery. We never even knnow wether na quality battery una wan punish gan sef. if you must use AC on those innocent batteries, kindly increase your solar panels much more to account for concurrent loads 3 Likes |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dam5reey(m): 9:29pm On Mar 13 |
Drgreatone: I typed 3.5KW because I use one. not Glorified 5KVA which is 4KW... What's the difference here? He will be running the AC during the day for only a few hours. Also, there would be losses due to No load consumption on 5KVA. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bassdow: 9:34pm On Mar 13 |
Gshems:firstly, if you go buy USED charge controller, ensure you know how to properly test it's working well because most of those sellers, na when your money never enter dem hand dem get ya time. Anything thereafter, na your lose. Better send your installer make He help you buy am. If you dey lagos, go Arena @oshodi , or go Alaba. Mind you, say dem write MPPT for e body or even engrave am sef, no be enough proof say na MPPT. meanwhile, a good quality used MPPT charge controller costs upwards of 100,000 naira. If you no sabi buy, you're better of buying brand new |

Parser: Good morning, if I buy a hybrid inverter, I can use it without any battery? If yes, can you please explain more how it works. How long can it last during the day? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by adibo(m): 3:47am On Mar 14 |
Good morning all. I want to get an inverter. I have a 32 inch smart TV one standing fan of abt 75w a 120w fridge Washing machine of about 240w Two laptops to charge The fridge will only be on for maybe a few hours during the day to ensure that my foodstuff don't get spoilt. The washing machine will only be used once a week (mostly during the weekend). The TV will be used mostly maybe 2 hours in the evenings on weekdays and then maybe a bit more during the weekend So, the main things that I will be using it very consistently for is keeping my laptop charged anytime of the day cus I use it to work a lot while also being able to keep my stuff in the fridge from spoiling I want to get a 2.5kva hybrid inverter (looking at Mercury inverter which is 406k but I will also appreciate any advice on a very reliable brand that may be cheaper) I was advised to get two tubular batteries of 220ah (which I have also seen from mercury, 360k but I will also appreciate any advice on a reliable cheaper option) I initially wanted to get two 550w jinko panels from foauni for a start with a plan to upgrade to more panels but an installer told me that they will not be enough, that I need at least three panels. Pls, is this true? Please, I will appreciate expert advice from as many persons as possible. Thanks |

How did this happen? Chichilas: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Parser: 8:34am On Mar 14 |
adibo:Yes. From 8 to 6pm but advisable to get at least a small battery backup, say 1kwh. But you have to over panel it. Cause most of the energy would be coming from the panel. Like if you have a 3.5kwh inverter & Ur load is 1kwh, you could use between a 1.5-2kwh array or more if your budget can allow. Advisable to get the datasheet of the hybrid inverter so you know how you would properly configure it with the solar- taking input voltage and current & power--- series connection. Second, you put a DC breaker btwn the array and inverter and transient protector between the inverter and NEPA( u know how NEPA light dey fluctuate) or don't even use Nepa at all and earthening of the inverter or a thunder arrestor on the array. E.g. If inverter can take array of 500V input, current say 80A and you have each of your array can dissipate 42V, 13A. You have a load of 2Kw. You can use a 4 to 6kw array by connecting your array in series to give like 420v at 13A around 5kw in a perfect scenario ignoring loses. And use a DC breaker that can take 500V and the current. There were reports that February was a very hot month.... Yet all of February my bedroom AC consumption was 65Kwh units.... Today is only 14th of march and i have already used 65Kwh units of electricity on the same AC...this heat go long o.

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by icjunior(m): 9:54am On Mar 14 |
adibo: I think we almost have same appliances/mode of their usage. The 2*550w panels are fine. Cos I use 2*475w panels. I also use a 2.5kva inverter (smarten) And 2*220ah batteries. Now what I'm not sure is if mercury is a good good brand. I don't stay home, leave in the morning to return in the evening,so what I do is use a timer socket to put my inverter fridge(<150w) on during peak sunlight and when I'm back I almost have a full battery that would allow me use the fan and a little of TV before sleeping plus 3hrs more for the fridge. I even iron in the morning, just a shirt anyways and my battery is always not below 23.8v - 24v every morning. I don't iron everyday o. I do it mostly on weekends, when there's sunlight ofcourse.🤣 |
