Located in Nigeria’s north-central region, Kogi State officially became one of the country’s crude petroleum producing states in October 2022. That is when the state started receiving the constitutional 13% derivation of crude oil revenue from the Federation Account. Crude oil was earlier discovered in commercial quantities in the Kogi East communities of Odeke, Echeno, Ihile, Anocha/Uchuchu, Omabo, Ikah, Iregwu and Ujeh within the Ibaji Local Government Area. This was assessed and confirmed in 2021 by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, (RMFAC). Being an oil producing state is a disgrace Being dependent on handouts from Abuja is a disgrace Being a state that exports manufactured goods and services ,and that can raise a significant income from taxing gdp and can fight corruption, attract investment, and keep growing, that's impressive . 8 Likes |

nairalanda1:can any state afford to build refineries? Can they explore on their own? The fate of the oil is to be sold and thats what the news is about. |

CodeTemplar: Kogi could, y'know attract some investor to do something. Anyway, as you said, na to sell oil...we know. And when the price crashes, wahala go start. 6 Likes |

Chinjo2: Actually, the scenarios are not exactly the same. In the case of the Kolmani River oil fields in Bauchi and Borno states, drilling or prospecting was launched by ex-President Buhari but no volumes are currently being significantly contributed to Nigeria's oil earnings. Consequently, neither of those states currently qualifies to receive the 13% derivation fund. Commercial drilling is already ongoing in Kogi State, with active contribution towards Nigeria's oil output. |
