Good article.

Very shameful but I doubt this was an accident. I'm sure somebody who knows somebody thought they could get over and line their pockets.

How can a customer view your screen in any business.

NIMC gives access to developers for a fee.

The problem is only agents should have access to this sites. Not just anybody who can buy unit for #200.

Government and bank officials are involved, and the motivation is money.

That's the reason why they want us to do nin bvn account link.

With the nin they can get our BVN and withdraw monies from our accounts by signing us up for non existent services. Most people won't give a fuss if 50 naira is deducted from their accounts.

Multiply that by 10 million accounts. And then N times a month.

Rogues are currently in charge of Nigeria.

They might be licensed to do it and moreover any business can partner with the NIMC. Because NIMC allows API integration for other apps and partnership from businesses, so this report doesn't hold any water undecided

You are the most ignorant human on earth. This is.a very serious breach which pertains to national security.
Have you thought about the implications as it relates to electronic voting system, banking and other critical personal identification matters.
Why should people’s information be for sale? Do know the extent of damage this could cause for Nigerians living in the diaspora who have also gotten NIN?
Some of us have always been skeptical about Nigeria’s readiness to mange such database with so much sensitive personal information, and have careful observed with some restraint .

This is bullshit!
...and very risky too.
I hope nimc will do something fast to stop this nonsense

Who are you asking to stop the bullshit is it the same nimc management that created, aided and abated the website as a side hustle or is the nimc staff members in various locations who are supposed to register and issue us with temporary photocopy of our ID freely but instead collects N1000 from everyone

If you refuse to pay to get your nin because its illegal to pay to get it then you'll become an alien there and then....😁 even other fellow Nigerians will say "hin own too much.....how much be N1000", the kind ones will offer to pay for you so you stop stressing yourself because of poverty. Only God can help us in this cuntree grin

That's our problem in Nigeria many articulate ignorant people....who could have imagined that the person who wrote the comment you replied to could be so ignorant with such good grammars and "education" but just imagine his level of reasoning so myopic and unintelligent.

As for you, I guess you have the luxury of dual citizenship or you don't reside in Nigeria because if you reside here and they are threatening you that your bank account and phone numbers will be locked without the NIN ID, my brother you'll register anyhow anyhow like some of us have done despite knowing shit like this can happen in our fantastically corrupt country.

My heart skipped a beat when I read the story but how man go do grin

Those companies you mentioned know the law and would never compromise your personal information. They will go to any length to protect it, unlike this case where your information is sold like in a bazaar .
The thing is, there are no class action law suits in Nigeria and judicial system has many lapses.
That company would have been bankrupt by now.

NIMC gives access to developers for a fee.

The problem is only agents should have access to this sites. Not just anybody who can buy unit for #200.

The website owner is an FEP to NIMC, who is also licensed to carry out the enrolment exercise.
So far, the website owner has not done anything seriously wrong, other than offering Verification Service.

The NIMC Verification Service (NVS) is a platform developed to enable verification of identities of persons enrolled in the National Identity Database.

Why would you as an individual with no ethical or legal obligations or bidding, have access to or be in a position to “verify people information” through any platform?

Why are we like this in Nigeria? Is it lack of exposure or what? How could you have said the company has not done anything wrong?
Being licensed is not an open check. There are restrictions and operational policies/ guidelines. Unrestricted use of the system is certainly not one that was granted to them.
NIN is personal information not public. Only highly verified and vetted entities should have the privilege to access it and not every Tom , Dicck and Harry.
This is a breach that has rendered every existing NIN useless.
In a sane society, massive resignation and law suits would follow.
