Ezeego1: That's theft.... u bought at 1800 and u will most likely sell at 2000... but u will go back and restock at 1400 ...making a profit of 600... but if u bought at 1400 , to sell at 1600... but the rate rose to 1800, will u still sell at 1600...u would definitely sell at 2000 , using the excuse that u have to restock... so why cheat the market out of greed?? That's criminal and people like u should have their goods seized 4 Likes 1 Share |

Never see the effect on the commodities especially foodstuff, cement and others..it only affect some areas like those selling machine parts and motor parts.. You bought items at higher price to sell, naira now appreciate you now sell below cost price..it a pity |

Birniwa: It's called trend, read about Dow theory of trend. The highest dollar can go now against naira is 1600. If there's a spike, it may go as far as 1680, and it will immediately drop below 1600 before the end of that day. USD/ NGX is on a downward trend and it's a long journey. Those who have dollars should seize the opportunity of dollars rally to sell off and not buy. Whoever buy waiting for price to hit the previous high, will loose heavily. |

I also found that Twitter thread where one guy claimed dollar is generally weak presently and almost all currencies are appreciating against dollar, it's not peculiar to naira. Except for the Egyptian pound and Argentine peso that were both devalued very recently. A research on news about dollar would show you that it is at a low. Summer is the season when the PTA demand for dollar goes up because of the frenzy of tourism and parents traveling abroad for convocations etc. In Nigeria particularly, the start of the ember months sees demand because of more imports , and January because of foreign student fees. We are also waiting for the FEC meeting where they might raise their interest rate, issue treasury bills or other fiscal policies that would make dollar attractive and raise its demand. Nigerians should not be celebrating so wildly. However, this present respite is very welcome. But it's more important that naira actually gains value in the market. Most important thing. We also need to question the issue of fx backlog clearance - where the dollar supply came from. Hopefully not like the last time they used 12 months worth of crude to defend naira for 2 weeks. It's worrisome banks are not selling, aboki is not selling but they are buying. We are merely fighting speculative demand successfully. We need strategies for the coming real demand. and beyond "dollar talk" ask why there has not been any actual economic growth since this tenure began. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Yankee101: No need to control. FG in partnership with private entities should just import such identified goods at the present exchange rate and be selling at lower prices. The hoarders will not have option but to bring down their prices if 'dem no wan chop their goods themselves' We learn every day |
