If it's only this one we did in St Thomas's it would have been better. They turned us to farmers. I dug ridge for the first time in my life there.

That school is still the biggest FENCED compound I have ever stood in. It would swallow 7 stadiums and drink water on top.

Abegii,

Let children do some form of Labour.😏😒

Dat's why most of our Kids/Teenagers these Days are very LAZY and empty. sad

They Only know how to do Tiktok videos, skits and watch porn in their phones. undecided
Yes I get you, but these days no matter what work u give to a kid as punishment or whatsoever, who's going to be carried away will be carried away (social media or not)

They're other forms of punishment in school, other than cutting the grass. Grasses are supposed to be mowed, but I guess we love foreign culture and yet never bothered to adopt it.

MCA

We did all kinds of manual labour
Cutting grass
Carrying Sand, gravel, blocks
Fetching water
etc etc

If our parents only knew what we were put through in their absence 😢

What you Don't Know....is that:
That Process Has Contributed to your Progress in Life now.
It has helped you toughen up to face any Adversity in life and become victorious.
It was essential

These days...when upcoming children just face a little Hardship....they just commit suicide...
why?
They are not mentally Tough. Parents have painted a Life of Roses to them,,, so they cannot easily survive on their own when Reality sets in!

Abeg rest. Even your white men know how to get their hands dirty when it is time.

Face it! we are in the part of the world where we SOMETIMES have to do things manually and these activities prepare you for some conditions and situations you MAY BE faced with in the future. For instance, Not everyone will build a house in Ikoyi. So what happens when you find yourself living in a place where the grass grows around you or you are in NYSC and posted to a bushy place? You wait for lawn mower right?
There are over 2,000 public schools in Nigeria, you want to buy lawn mowers for them? how many per school? What about maintenance? Abeg rest.
What about when you travel to the village and you see your cousins helping in the farm? You will stand and wait for lawn mower right? Get real abeg.
I be confirmed rocking city guy but if we enter bush, my chance of survival is high because of the experiences in my life.
I thank God for the experience.

The ethos some of them learned is what helped them to turn out to be disciplined, focused and enterprising personalities. Ever ask yourself why our present day youths are unruly and indisciplined.

Wondering, 🤔

Who should then cut the grass in these public schools whose lands are usually a minimum of 3-5plots? The teachers?

You should blame the system that's intentionally set up not to work. Schools have no allocations to maintain their existing facilities. They are left to fend for themselves and live off generous donations from parents and corporate institutions.

Wow I left the school in JSS 2 because of the pressure from my mum on my dad to change my school. She claimed her mind is not always at rest whenever I was away at NNSS Abeokuta but I still remember some guys from your set particularly the one's whom we attended same primary school together.

grin grin grin

I did this during my high school days. Sometimes we are told by the school authorities to pick papers and dirts on the ground, Afterall we were the ones who lit the ground with the dirts. It's very common in most public schools. Public school life na rugged life.

The funny thing is it somehow helped me because It contributed to my habit of being a neat freak today. I can pick up the tiniest of dirt in my room whenever I notice it.

High school days? Rich kids
