But Prices of good is still high!
Government should look into this.
So you expect the goods that are currently in stock that were purchased with a higher dollar rate to be sold at a lesser price?

By a stroke of genius, the President had ordered the CBN be in charge of receipts of oil revenues, a departure from decade-long misappropriation of crude oil sales. It therefore enhances CBN's ability to stabilize the currency. The insinuation that CBN borrows to sell to banks and BDCs should be disregarded.

2. Clearing of $7billion backlog has done the economy so much good. Investors no longer have the fear of their funds being trapped.

3. Oil production is on a steady increase. Although, a component volume of it had been sold in the future, however, the significant increase in production is offsetting the shortfalls. Moreover, oil price is up.

4. The market is gaining back investors' confidence. Following MPC meeting in January, investors reacted positively, total foreign portforlio recorded $2.3billion in febuary, purchases of naira assets stood at $1billion, oversea remitances went up greatly, FG bonds was oversubscribed, all these helped create more liquidity and increases market supply.

Come down or go up. Last last the zmbeees suffering will still increase immenselygrin

Them use POVERTY curse for Nigerians.

Clueless idiot, when naira was exchanging for 1850 to a dollar, someone like you was rejoicing and calling the government all manner of unprintable names.
But now that the government set out policies framework are paying off. You are bringing out another negative narratives that naira will collapse in less three months.
If naira doesn't collapse In three month then that doom will fall on your head...
Negativity about our country should be erased. Everyone should support this government to achieve greatness and prosperity. If these are sustained,in no time, fuel prices will go down, so also prices of commodities and food.

Nigeria economic is rising very fast already from the Africas Nettower watch...

The real value of naira is around 900 to 1000 naira based on our level of crude oil production which Constitute majority of our GDP and money in circulation.

Speculators drove it to 1850 because they kept betting against the naira.

CBN can defend the Naira at 900 naira to 1 dollar comfortably.

By next week, CBN will sell dollars for 1000 to the BDC and before end of April they will be holding it at 900 Naira.

I watched the press conference, but Yemi Cardoso didn't mention where he got the $7 billion to pay off the outstanding obligations. If we had this money readily available, why were they owing those organisations?

Earlier in the year, news broke that the NNPC would help the FG (CBN) borrow $3.3bn from Afrexim Bank. If that money is what they are using to clear the outstanding fees, it's understandable. However, they should have clearcut repayment plans.

Before you quote me to start your name-calling, make sure you have answers to my question. By the way, I like that Yemi Cardoso had to engage Deloitte to vet the companies that were asking for refunds. It shows he's taking his job seriously.
They got the money from asking the IOCs not to remit 100% of their income to their home country for two months.

Audio appreciation....

How come that with the so-called appreciation, the prices of essential commodities and consumables keep rising astronomically?

Is a genuine gain of the naira not supposed to affect pricing of locally manufactured goods and even imported ones?

Where are the voodoo economics who think with their behinds? Come and give us your habitual plausible explanations...

It is also noteworthy to appreciate CBN's new guildelines, these bold moves have helped sanitize the financial system. CBN henceforth is closely monitoring operations of financial institutions and BDCs. CBN and the security agencies are following every transactions, the eagle eyes are following the money. Hopefully, it gets even better.

The charade will soon be exposed.

Cbn incharge of oil revenue receipts doesn't change much.. with our lingering problems.

U think oil alone can save us?

why are prices of things in the market not coming down. See eh, the problem is not in the Naira, but Nigeria. We don't have any body that supervises and regulates pricing. Anybody go just wake up put price. Dollar is selling for ,1280, now but prices are still high when it was 1500-1600.
Prices will remain high till there is a reasonable time of stability.

It is the government that caused the volatilty. So any business with common sense will watch to see if the recent appreciation in naira is artificial or not.

what has custom duties got to do with cbn,I thought cbn is in charge of monetary policy, while taxes and duties are fiscal policies
That was how the former cbn governor left central banking to delve into commercial banking, disbursing loan to farmers, which ended in disaster

lets say you bought Garri at 500 naira per mudu last week to sell at 550 naira per mudu to make a fixed profit of 50 naira per mudu.

You still have the stock of Garri you bought last week and the price this week goes down to 400 naira per mudu where you buy to resell.

Will you start selling the garri you have in stock for 450 naira per mudu?

Firstly, that money Afrexim bank is part of what they used.

Secondly, they are paying back with a portion of crude, not sure the exact figure but it will run for 2 years.

Finally, I don't think there's money readily available in Nigeria.

Prices Keep rising because commodities were ordered and paid for at the 1900 Naira.

Only market forces can force prices down.

Once demand for the product fall because income has not yet increased significantly with price, the commodities suppliers will have no choice that for their Prices to reflect current market realities.

It's already happening as some construction materials are dropping.

Food is the last to react to price reduction because retailers and wholesalers take advantage of the essential nature of it.
