Urgent Need Of Advice by Cluckinbird: 10:14pm On Mar 28
I (29) female currently going for a second degree, due to some reasons I travelled home. Now my mum won’t let me go back to my base in preparation for my exams and sch runs she’s saying If I have to go it has to be with her tagging along which isn’t appropriate. I feel tied down cause she is used to getting her way and every decision I allowed her to make in my life has always gone south I am training myself for this degree. Tonight she raised a topic of my bf not picking her call all the time I tried to see reasons with her I don’t know the reason for him ignoring her calls besides I don’t think it’s appropriate she communicates with him so often

Babe, try to disconnect your mother from your relationship. The last girl I dated, I faced the same issues with her mother.

Don't give room for your family to come closer to your man and don't allow them to always make decisions for you in your relationship.

So I m not being wrong or rude for not giving them details and not involving myself with the fact he doesn’t communicate with her so often ?
I think I am old enough to stop listening to her I have made so many mistakes due to me indulging in her advice she refuses to admit to this I m on the road to correcting this how do I break free from her without being a bad child

It will be a process.

You should first of all, stop giving her detailed information about your daily activities and the challenges you face daily.

Discuss everything with your man alone.

Old enough? Your mates don born pikin, even small dem go become grandma shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked When are you going to learn to fly on your own if you haven't even done that at this point in your life? Or are you hiding vital information from us in this? Is your mother your caregiver? Is she like a caregiver of yours? Are you intellectually challenged or something? undecided

Nope I grew up in a strict home she wants us the children to be God fearing and all but I think I am way beyond that. I am way too old for such restrictions she can’t have a say in my life now especially when it comes to my partner infact I am happy he’s setting such boundaries with her already

If you really believe the statement in bold, then you need to begin acting that way. Clearly, you have one of those parents who think it makes sense to impose on even their adult children. She ain't gonna give you the respect you deserve as an adult unless you demand and even take it by yourself. So get to work immediately. 29 no be small pikin again OO. lipsrsealed

Your mom needs a man in her life. That's the only solution. If your dad is in the picture, talk to him and encourage him to be more engaging. And if he's not, you can try talking to her about remarriage or a relationship.

It's only going to get worse from here unless something changes really fast regarding her relationship status. You are her only child, right?

I am still wondering what she is calling your boyfriend for or what she has to be discussing with him

As for your academics, just promise her that you will pay her another visit when next you are chanced
