It also happened to me personally.. my wife was admitted on emergency ward.. A and E ward for an Emergency C-S . We got admitted. I was asked to 1st go to blood bank to donate 2 pints of blood.. it was hectic 😳 getting a donor.. I cried for help and one guy promised to help me get a donor. At 20k per pint.. After donating and getting an acknowledgement receipt.. when the time reached for me get the blood I donated from LUTH. LASUTH BLOOD BANK. IT WAS SERIES OF ONE FIGHT TO ANOTHER..
Lastly thank to God Almighty my wife came out from LUTH alive.. it was a very bad experience and we lost the twins.. to cut everything short......
I have even some videos of the recorded arguments I have with them ..
Lost the twins eventually?
So painful after all the efforts.
Did they come out alive at all or they died some time after birth in the neonatal intensive care unit?

The private blood bank saved the life of my triplets and wife in lasuth.

Yes I paid but it was worth it .

That private blood bank buys blood from general hospitals who mandates that husbands or relatives of pregnant women donate blood as a prerequisite for antenatal registration. When I was pregnant withy first child, my husband was made to donate blood at the GH we registered in and I ended up not giving birth there meaning we've dashed them the blood. When someone I know gave birth at GH and had to be transfused with blood, she said they had to buy blood. I asked how come, didn't her husband donate blood? She said they donated but they were still charged. This was as far back as 2011/2012. They need to explain to us what they do with the thousands of pints they collect from patients who don't eventually use it.

Wow! This is so painful! That's why I'm so terrified of public hospitals, they're too heartless! Why even request for 2 pints of blood even they know they're still going to make the patients buy it when needed? And when you don't eventually use the donated bloid, they don't compensate you in anyway.

Blood is never available because people do not donate blood. Simple!

Before any of you start castigating LASUTH, if you are an able-bodied young man. Have you donated blood VOLUNTARILY before?

Not because your wife is about to deliver, or because your relatives are going for surgery.

As long as people don't donate blood VOLUNTARILY, demand for blood will always be more than supply.

When blood is donated by a relative, it is screened to be free from diseases like hepatitis B and C, syphilis and HIV. A lot of people found out they had hepatitis B and HIV when they donated blood. Infected ones like that will be thrown away leaving less for everyone.

Then people should not be forced to donate blood Until when they need it.

Why should I donate blood in advance and then have to buy blood again when it is required?

The payment is for screening not the blood you are getting.
Whether it is donated in advance or at the point it's required you will pay for the blood gotten.

Blood issues can be one big wahala in general hospitals.

And people hardly donate, blood is not like drugs one can buy there has to be a supply. Once no supply it will be scarce hence the wahala we have here and there.

Even if the person has money if there's no blood what will happen?

You made a valid point. But the hospital should at least explain and document this for patients and their loved one

Nigeria is not a failed nation, it’s the people that constitute themselves into failure which then reflects on the nation. What’s needed is a collective reflection and responsibility

How will you feel if after donating, then it was sold to someone else and you had to buy again . That is what this topic is about.
Let's abandon voluntary donation drive for now because that one too is a scam.

We all are quick to shout "tifnubu" up and down. Now tell me, is sanwoolu or tinubu the ones defrauding people at the blood bank? We as citizens are the most vile, wicked and inconsiderate set of people on earth.

The bitter truth is Nigeria as a whole is a fraud. Our leaders and politicians, banks/ financial institutions, school admission boards or bodies, tha schools itself, mobile service providers, hospitals, NEPA/ electricity providers, marriages, fuel filling stations, etc ia all fraud and scams. I even forgot to name religious organizations. So don't be amazed when you see all these scams..

Too bad.

Talk of blood money, here you have it.

If our system is not looking for Fisayo, I would've said they swing into action and do the needful.

As it is, only the incorruptible nature waits for all perpetrators and collaborators.
Re: The Blood Bank Fraud At LASUTH By Lola Okunrin by Komenikanri1: 11:40am On Mar 30
@OP, thanks for posting this. The time I experienced this personally, I was too depressed to speak about it. At the state general hospital in ilorin, blood business has become a cool business.
My daughter was referred their in January and needed blood transfusion, they said they could get me a pint for 13k if I don't want to donate or can't find anyone to donate for here.

While negotiating my options, a woman whose daughter had just had a surgery related to childbirth came to them to demand refund for unused pint out of the two she was forced to buy to cover some other bills, they refused vehemently claiming that the unused has been kept in the bank and I was there begging for blood from the bank which they refused.

I later donated a pint of blood. When the transfusion was done, my daughter only took very small part and the much bigger rest was taking away. I angrily asked why didn't they draw just the quantity they needed they said 1 pint was the standard. I then placed a curse on whoever monetize my blood.

Walking round the hospital, you will see all these piggy banks with inscriptions soliciting for donations for indigent patients, yet I had causes to bail people whose bills required as little as 100 naira from the pharmacy.

The fraud going on in government-owned hospital is a bigger brother to the ones we see at police stations that we complain about. Only God will save us.

This is not peculiar to only LASUTH alone. It is very common in almost, if not all public hospitals in Nigeria.

I've experienced this first hand in the hospital in my state. I donated 3 pints of blood for my sister but they gave flimsy excuse and we still paid small money on top.

The problem is the corrupt officers who always take advantage of this "life and death" situation.

I donated another 3 pints of blood about 3 months ago and really hope it saves an innocent person's life.
Wait, you donated blood needed and still paid extra money, for what?

What you fail to understand here is not voluntary blood donation, it is those who donate blood and don't get it and have to pay for it. What you are talking about is different and gaslighting people to donate blood. That can never work. You know that not all bloof is eligible even after screening and there is a racket around this donation. It is said that if you donate blood in Lagos, you and your family can get it FREE. Don't let me get to LSBTS because there is a law on this topic. I can't post links because of the bot but let me share screenshots

Voluntary they get it but it must be sold... I remember when my wife put to bed She's A- while am A + so I have to look for donor or buy.... after the birth, no blood was used and then I ask where is the blood I donate they cajole me to let that go since my wife and kid are okay, me I give them a warning that if the blood is giving to anybody and that person pay again for it the blood will misbehave on such patient but if they give the person free of charge then everything will be normal

I have always complained here about the rots in our healthcare system, but Nigerians have this attitude of not caring about a problem until they become the victims of that problem.

To tackle the rots in our healthcare system, we need to start by overhauling the leadership of the system. There are professional healthcare administrators who manage the hospitals in sane countries and that is why the system is better over there.

Let's toe the same path here and you'll see how the system gets transformed for good.

Lol this is common in most teaching hospitals. My dad was once a victim when he had surgery in a popular teaching hospital in the North. We donated two pints of blood before surgery and just when the surgery was near, the hospital claimed it was only one pint of blood that was remaining and the other had already been administered to him. I was shocked by my marrows when they even brought documentation of the day my dad was administered the blood and time too. Of course, my dad was never administered any blood cos we were with him 2,4,7 on his hospital bed. Even on the said date, the hospital claimed they administered the blood on him, I was with my dad throughout that very day and no blood was administered. The truth is most doctors working in public hospitals also have their private hospitals, they steal these blood pints to sell to their client in their private hospitals.

Mine I paid for 4 pints and used 2 first when I wanted to use the remaining 2 later it was nowhere to be found, I had to buy another 2 pints again. It happens in almost all the teaching hospitals. That's how those blood bank guys make money. They forget the smiling on blood money. Karma.

so what about everyone else?

this is the story of nigeria in general and the story of lagos civil service in particular

Lagos state introduced proper VIO inspection of vehicles
i went to the center , queued for the whole day, ignored the touts offering to help me jump the queue
when it was my turn they mae up some story that they were done for the day

the next time i just engaged the person who sorts my car papers, dropped an additional 5k and i was done. was my car in good order - oga don't worry, you are done.

95% of those bastards in civil service are out to monetize every service by any means necessaryget

I was asked to do same deal but refused. I took My vehicle for inspection myself and after it passed, the officer tried to sell me a sticker I told them I have same. They then asked Me to buy them water, praising me till I unwilling gave out 500 or 1k... can't even remember.

Am sure they did same to other cars owner everyday.
