One Year After Being Commissioned, Over "36 Billion Naira" Ebonyi International Airport Yet To Start Operation (Photos) By Wisdom Nwedene One year after the commissioning of the Ebonyi International airport, Local airlines have boycotted the airport due to its defective runway. Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi had mapped out 13.7 Billion Naira to repair the airport which reportedly gulped 36 Billion Naira, barely six months after his predecessor, David Umahi commissioned the Airport. Recall that in April 2023, the Ebonyi airport was launched with two inaugural flights of Air Peace aircraft touching down on the runway of the airport. The epoch-making event was well attended by top federal and state government officials as well as dignitaries across the country. However, a few months after the inauguration, reports had it that the Ebonyi airport runaway had developed problems. The airport which has gulped over 40 Billion Naira of the state resources is yet to yield any revenue into the coffers of the state government which needs revenue to pursue its growth and development agenda. Ebonyi State International Airport is an airport located in Onueke, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Nigeria, along the Abakaliki-Afikpo Expressway. The airport is meant to service Ebonyi, Abia and Benue states. David Umahi used that airport to loots the treasury of Ebonyi State in the massive way. Much debts in Ebonyi State presently. Instead of him to spend the tax payers money on Agriculture, human capacity development, health, education, roads infrastructures and reviving the economy of Ebonyi State, he preferred to take loans and spend it on white elephants projects that never generate any revenue to Ebonyi State. The question here’s where’s the miners resources that can generate revenue in Ebonyi State. Ebonyi State is much known as Agrarian State in the South East of Nigeria 🇳🇬. Today David Umahi has put the State in huge debt. I hope the debts is been paid when Tinubu government finished in the next 4 years or 8 years. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

The governor needs consulting to help them put this beautiful airport into very good use exporting food products to Europe and America. Ebonyi is an agricultural hub and has a beautiful airport, but lacks the entrepreneurial mindset and business acumen to make the airport a successful commerce business. Alternatively, Abia state should leade the airport to achieve their economic empire chase. 1 Like |

Truths9ja: Very funny... Ebonyi State debts remain one of the smallest in the country....both local and foreign. But then, you are right. Most Nairalanders criticised the airport, but those who supported it called us haters. Engr. Dave Umahi is an engineer who understands what it takes to establish good engineering projects, but he needs to be guided and lectured on project viability and usefulness. |

ednut1: Umahi is a wicked man. If you want to cash out, why not do projects like artificial irrigation to empower Abakiliki rice? Why must it be needless project with no impact? As for Dapo Abiodun, that one na proper certified yahoo yahoo |

Dave Umahi just used this variegated colour white elephant project for corruption because a good feasibility study should have tell him that an airport is not of any economic importance to Ebonyi state in this 21st century |

Everything for Naija na "I want do like my Neighbor" Now see am now! ....I no go gree. I want mine, see am! Rather than looking inwards and see how that money would profit the citizens. Good roads and railroads would do them more benefit than this. Enugu Airport is just an hour drive from this. Yet Enugu isn't that busy at all, hence no need for diversion. Are we mad or what? Abia is busy clamoring for theirs. I think Nigeria is ripe for roadside psychiatric hospitals. |
