Sir, please stop misleading people, it is not right, make thunder no fire you.

No one is rejecting GMO crops, it is not harmful anything. Do your due diligence in research before saying some of these things, In Nigeria we consume GMO foods if you don't know.

I didn't even want to go there.

I hope to be long gone from this world before Nigeria does something as dumb as that...!

Op, who is lying to you that Nigeria can't sustainably feed even twice its population?!!

Last time I checked, this nation still has plenty of 'unfarmed' and uncultivated arable lands across the country... The biggest issues plaguing food production remain:

1. Insecurity: this is the biggest issue.

2. Corruption: every dime donated and apportioned towards mechanization and fertilizers gets diverted by government officials.

3. Government Policies: How many state governors are investing and looking into food production across the nation?

Op, don't ever deceive yourself... Non-GMO lifestyle remains the unarguable best way to live anywhere in this world.
Of course, we can feed our population. But are we currently doing so? Abi you have the solution to insecurity and corruption and other what-nots listed by you?

Well said. Preach it brother. Those that know the real African history not the one portrayed by western media know that libraries existed in Timbuktu, Mali before the French ever knew what libraries were.

The European have erased the history of native Americans and native Canadians that's why we here nothing about them or their history today. They tried to do the same in Africa and almost succeeded. Versions of history like Africans living in huts are nothing but western propaganda aimed at erasing the real African history and making Africans think less of themselves!

No mind all these clowns, plants are always undergoing modifications to fight disease and withstand adverse weather conditions, increase yield and shelf life e.t.c
And important to note that countries have regulatory agencies who determine what is safe for consumption... science will keep helping to improve lives.

Where is your data that GMOs are behind the rise in diabetes and obesity and heart diseases and what-not? I don't mean hysteria-inducted rants - I want peer-reviewed studies. Or, at least, the opinions of credible scientists showing their workings.
of course I have them, I'm not sure,I can upload pdf here. Do you know gmo seeds don't have longevity of repeat planting compared to our local seeds?

This right here is the issue. There are people who do not give a thought to CONSEQUENCES! It is all about making immediate cash for them regardless of whom their venture harms or destroys.

There has been a lot of warning from censored scientists about the dangers of GMO to the human health. It poisons the DNA! The people pushing for GMO acceptability know this. Hence the cleverness of paying greedy people who are more than willing to betray their own people for money. If you have the means, please own a small garden on your plot of land. Make an allowance where you can at least grow some of the food you eat. This has been the practice since the history of mankind. At some point we have allowed corporations with sinister motives to occupy that sphere. I do not see drought as a drastic problem. Irrigation is a thing! If you are willing, you can avoid GMO completely.
SeriouslySense:
If you see how souless nigerians follow them because of money, they are willing to even poison people to earn money and seem scientific smiley

They will be speaking english meanwhile they want to adopt poisonous foods.

Before we know it, they will say, insects are better than meat, and synthetic meat (laboratory meat) is better than real meat.

The Op is obviously paid to promote GMO food consumption. First of all, Nigeria can produce more than enough to take care of 20x its current population.
The world is not overpopulated nor is it close to been overpopulated. The idea of overpopulation and climate change is an avenue to control people into thinking scarcity.Have you ever been on an airplane, and see the vast expanse of arable farmland we have compared to population?
Ask yourself why certain disease are found more amongst the rich, how many people do you see in the villages that have cancer, asthma, eye problems. GMO is the pathway to population control, don't be deceived and stop deceiving others.
Why many still Pretend that they Can't SEE that the Book of Revelation is being Fulfilled right in our Days is baffling, they turned blind eye at the fact that the Anti-Christ CORONAtion happened in Year 2020 by the most Satanic Global Deception, and now he wants to Own every Soul on Earth through the DNA Enslavement. Those that are yet to know that Gene-Spilcing was a useless Knowledge beyond Humans' reach till Satan and the Fallen Angels taught it to their half-human Offsprings in Genesis 6. Book of Enoch was removed from the Scripture because it exposed the full details that what is now repeating itself in this World led to the Wiping out of Humanity during Noah's Time.

No need for GMO. If you keep accepting anything an outsider presents to you, they can severely undermine your food security. They are also smart enough to know that these people are not offering these seeds for free. It always comes at a cost, either to the detriment of the health of citizens, or future dependence on these companies for their grain. The Earth has given us food in abundance. Learn to plant and store at least 20% as grain

With all the attending side effects. As long as the white man is doing it, we must do it too right?

JuanDeDios:
In an open letter to EU leaders, 34 Noble Prize winners have asked the EU to reconsider its stance on GM food, asking EU lawmakers to ‘reject fearmongering’ and allow scientists to develop crops that can withstand ‘climate emergency’.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/jan/19/nobel-laureates-call-on-eu-to-relax-rules-on-genetic-modification

Honestly, I think the EU can do without GM food – they have a small population, fertile land and good technology. Yet, for Europe, I think it’s not a matter of IF but WHEN they will accept GM food.

But what about Africa? Our population is still rising geometrically and we can’t feed too many of our people. The future will be worse because there will be more people and more droughts. We need technology to feed our people. Is it time to embrace GM food? Notably, the fears expressed over GM food many years ago have now failed to materialize. So what is the basis for continuing to reject them? What do you think?

I'm curious as to the bolded - do you have evidence they don't? smiley I know people who have headed companies and worked marketing: the fact is that some of the people you mentioned are not allowed not to eat these things - they have to. Do you know what would happen the day the Washington Post gets wind of the fact he doesn't eat it? His multibillion investment is gone.

As for its rejection being scientific, the fact is that the initial fears have not materialised. I understand what you wrote, but science doesn't work like that–which is why science is fact-based. For example, groundnut contains known carcinogens, yet there is zero evidence that groundnuts actually cause cancer. See? That is why the EU is about to change its stance - because evidence has failed to show up that GMOs ACTUALLY cause cancer.

How consistent have you been with GMO food?

Hysteria. Suspicion. Understandable (for something new), but it wasn't based on science. It's only a matter of time now before the EU embraces GMO.

The EU rejected GMO for several reasons. One, unlike the US that adopts food first without testing, the first time they find out something is detrimental to health is after several people have died or are afflicted. Then they test that product. The EU tests first before release.

The result of their tests have shown that GMO may cause cancer.

Secondly, there is the issue of food independence. Once you start farming GMO, you must continue to buy your seeds from the supplier as you cannot plant seeds derived from GMO. This will lead to dependence on the supplier as opposed to the current practice where the farmer replants the best yield from their farms.

GMO foods are designed to be infertile, so they dont make flowers, they contain too much sugar and not enough macro and micro nutrients. the plants do not replenish the soil like some natural plants do. if you eat them , you keep coming down with nutritional deficiencies. it is just a form of subtle yet dangerous colonization. please no one should have anything to do with GMO
