There's a Nigerian movie I've been trying to remember, must have been shot in the 90s or early 2000s, was about an abroad returnee girl that needed to trace her father's history or something in one of these Yoruba towns. She was linked to a university lecturer (young guy), and he was to help her whether locate her father or locate his works (he was a lecturer too I think)...the journey sha took the lecturer guy deep into the forest to discover artefacts (can't remember if it was because the girl got kidnapped by some spirits or she got lost in the forest)...well the spirits sha started trying to take the guys life, one challenge after another, but one that stuck with me the most was a scene where one of the spirits pretended to be the abroad returnee girl...she was inside like a stream or so, white semi-transparent gown (the outline of her tits were showing sef ...the girl was very pretty sha, abroad accent, light skin and tall), and the lecturer guy got enticed, and went to her in the stream and started kissing her, only for the girl to transform into one menacing old woman with at least 6 boobs (I think it was Toun Oni from Fuji House of Commotion that played the old woman)...the guy sha discovered and ran away and the scene cut with Toun Oni laughing menacingly (I think). My memory on the movie is very fuzzy, but every now and again I find myself trying to get the title or something of the particular movie...what prompted it yesterday was a tweet on Wale Adebayo that starred in the Sango Movie....so say make I try my luck see if anybody fit remember the movie I describe. 1 Like |

Shebi na Cardi B sue Tasha K for millions and won. She will likely spend her adult life paying that gbese. Why can't similar approach be used? Let the courts handle it, you don't have to use police to harass and oppress is my point. Doing business in Nigeria and thinking people won't sully your product from time to time is naive. However when you know the quality of your product you will always have people coming to your defense. You can't tell me the extremely negative PR he has generated now will not hurt his sales. 3 Likes 1 Share |

A40: What wahala? Why are trying to make it seem as if I am doing too much or whatever here? You do not know how to have a discussion in good faith without going personal? No be you start dissertation unto small question I ask. I even only initially responded to you because I thought it was A OO1. And I took my time to do so. And you probably know who I am/how I am and the way I write. I do not get why you quoted me in the first place and turn around to call my response a dissertation. Like it was some vapid, vacuous post. Go and read your post again and see how widely you veered off tangent without answering the question. You were the one who veered off tangent and was bringing in things I never even said. Responding as if the things I said contradict anything you said. I never said Westernization doesn't have any influence on Nigeria or general popular cultures around the world. I simply singled out American feminist trends. Two things can be true at once. Did we have a #MeToo era in Nigeria where CEOs and entertainment giants were called out and sacked from the workplace en masse for sexual crimes and the likes? No. With the exception of recent the Bobrisky saga a few days back, transgenderism is not a thing in Nigeria. The criticism and the blowback that award show got happened mostly online. Nobody on the streets of Nigeria is being charged with misgendering claims. Even indulgence in homosexual acts is still a crime here. That is what I meant when I say that feminism (politics) in America does not translate to the rest of the world. Different society grows and develop in different stages and phrases. So it is NOT a failing of American 'Girlboss' Feminism, as you implied, that Nigerian female artistes do not collaborate with one another. You can come up with other explanations for it outside of feminism. It is also the same way the redpill/alpha male trend that developed on alt-right American forums have no influence on the Nigerian society. Nigeria is a patriarchal society in its own 'right/way' but it is not because of Andrew Tate and the manosphere. A relative of mine doesn't even know Elvis Presley when I asked him about it. This is not me veering off point; it is me substantiating my claim that American gender/feminist politics doesn't show itself in other countries' gender relations, so don't use the "noise" on social media to judge. Don't also wonder why Nigerian female artistes don't feature each other inspite of "girlboss" feminism. You expecting that is ethnocentric- judging another culture by the standard of another. This was my first answer to you, in other words. I perfectly understand the issue you people have with Odumodu. I said I find it funny. And it's because he exposes the nature of a lot of you in an unflattering manner. The way a lot of your people commodify yourselves in the sexual market is the same way Odumodu was doing it in his song. In all my response to you, not once did I even think I made reference to you or to the nature of your gender. But you've gone personal with me more than once, but it's you that's seeing wahala. What do you mean he's "exposing my nature?" Why did you ask me for something and when I responded you're trying to insist I am mad because it's an unpleasant truth about me? Your post has been deleted, but from the little I recollect, you talked about how it is okay for women to praise their good qualities and show they are wife materials. But did I say that was not okay to do? Did I say it is a bad thing? I said Nigerian women are still very much traditional, even babes who work corporate and are now making money and providing for themselves, as men traditionally used to do, try to present themselves as wife materials. I did not say it as a dunk; I said it to show that Nigerian women aren't overwhelmingly feminist. There are plenty of mummy Zees out there and therefore, 'American feminism' cannot coexist seamlessly in our society. So don't expect features and parts and parcel of that feminism to be manifest here. Stop seeing the apparition of your feminist ex in situations trying to fight at it. I did not say Nigerian women are killing it in businesses to mean that people deserve a pat on the back for doing 'basic things', I said it to contrast against them still being very traditional, socially. That no matter how rich or independent they are, they still try to downplay it (example, Alakija). All of these just to buttress the fact that Nigerian women are traditional, and that Nigeria is not woke. I don't care for the reasons why. So do not expect feminist stuff in our kind of society, and music. The Nigerian industry is dominated by men (this is not inherently good or bad), hence the few women there have to align with men if they want to get to the top. It is men that "control the money," so to speak (Davido, Olamide, Wizkid, Don Jazzy), so I don't expect women who are not feminist-leaning to forgo the profitability to be found in making music with men under male record labels just to partner with another small, poor female artist because of ideology. Lady Donli is a feminist and she's okay not making mainstream music. The pop babes who want profitability over ideology are going over to male-owned record labels who have the money, clout and marketing strategies to push them. Before you come for me and say I am attacking anybody again, put on your thinking cap please. An observation is different from a criticism. Nigeria is a traditional society hence people do traditional stuff and gravitate towards traditional beliefs and songs, including the women you know who sing Odumodu's songs. How simpler should I still spell this for you, or you just want to turn this another an argument for the sake of it? Maybe if you'll get the social media accounts of the girls you've seen listening to Odumodu and go through it, and you see that they are the feminists who dislike and post against him Odumodu, I'll believe what you're saying about their hypocrisy. 498 people cannot be doing something, and when 2 people say they don't do it, you claim it's a lie because you know about 50 people (of the 498) who are doing so. Northern Nigeria has the highest number of child brides in the world, does that give you the right to go about accosting every Northern girl you meet about it? Poverty and illiteracy rates are the highest in the same place, yet I used to have some friends from ABU Zaria who are studying to be medical doctors and lawyers. Intelligent, well-to-do peeps. One even had a cat pet. If your cranium cannot assimilate this ANALOGY for what it is, in relation to this topic, before you go off telling me WHY child marriage is bla bla because of the age of consent or say that I am being hateful towards Northerners, you're more hopeless than I thought. This is also the second answer I provided; feminists in NG are fewer in number than non-feminist women. The women you know who are vibing to Odumodu are not the ones calling him out. Even the Zulezoo you falsely claimed sang a song about rape meanwhile it was about a woman cheating. That's the fantasy world you people live "Fantasy world you people live in." This is also you going personal and exposing your bias, and not only that, but judging based on some pre-conceived notions you hold. Was it not enough for you to call what I said false and provide your perspective on the song? I'm afraid your intellect is highly stunted if you cannot relate with people on the basis of their individuality and what they are saying in the moment, without resorting to "you people" or some opinions you've seen feminists give. I responded with an epistle as is MY nature but you quoted me first. If you knew I live in la-la land like other feminists, why did you engage me and why are you continuing to engage me? Because I have more claim to the right of response seeing as you interacted with me first. What is the point of this? Are you seeing me in the feminist you dated or something? P.S.: You started going personal so I am only returning the favour in kind. And find a bucket to cry salty tears into over this lengthy response. |
