That's what SAP was about and it produced visible benefits in the banking, broadcasting, cement and airline industries. Free markets is the way to go. I wish solar panels were cheaper, all this nonsense will stop.

Nobody expects piped water from the 37 Water Boards in Nigeria and their well paid employees and there's no water scarcity. Everyone face the truth, Black Africans can't work together to provide public goods.

Like a a two edged sword it could go either way.

1, at the moment on paper only about 15% of Nigerians are said to be enjoying 20hrs of electricity a day.

So the industry could see as an incentive to make more money by expanding their customer base and increasing the % of people getting above 20hrs/day..

Clearly for anyone getting less than 20hrs a day It is a major loss for them.

2. On the other hand they could choose to concentrate all there efforts on the people already getting 20hrs a day ..and forget the rest of the people that are getting less..so things will get better for people who are paying more and worse for people who are paying less.

Cost of power in Texas averages 13.75cents per kilowatt hour. Houston is more expensive due to higher taxes levied on power.

However, I am not taking into considerations many factors experts in the industry would. I am sure in time with greater efficiency, there might be a reduction in price.

In addition, what is important is that the price is cost reflective. They should do the same to all users.

The primary reason why we are suffering from rolling blackouts presently is due to " gas challenges" which is Nigerian government speak for huge debts owed for gas they have bought.

I can have 4 days of blackout and 3 days of combined power supply that is not up to 12 hours.
The last time I bought power token, I was charged around 77 naira per kwh, that is higher than the so called 66 naira for band A.

How many consumers are really billed according to the band ratings?

Nigeria has no business saying there is no GAS. NLNG and/or NGC is/are still working I believe. The Nigerian government has kept the activities of NLNG in shadows.

The next stage is the inevitable conflict between some band A customers and PHCN when (not if) PHCN fails to meet its own part of the deal...that is, the 20 hour daily minimum supply.

I know someone classified as band A. This individual has been in band A for years. He did not have electricity from midnight till 3pm this afternoon...that's a full 15 hours of darkness in a 24 hour period. This is a violation of the 20 hour daily minimum and these violations have been commonplace for years. This customer has suffered this injustice without redress for years. Even if he has uninterrupted electricity till 11.59pm tonight, (an unlikely scenario) he would have had just 9 hours supply instead of 20 hours.

The customer has never (in the last 5 years) received a rebate or discount or compensation of any kind for this serial breach of contract by PHCN. And NERC has done nothing about it.

As usual with the failed party in power and the failed governments it produces, absolutely nothing has been done or will be done to protect the rights of electricity consumers whose tariffs have just been increased. There is no ombudsman worthy of the name, nothing. Consumers are on their own...as they always have been.

Nigerians will learn the hard way.
