They keep increasing this electricity tariff over the years yet there is no significant improvement in power supply so what gives? All the billions stolen by politicians over the years would have been enough to fix our power sector and refineries but the rogues keep making Nigerians pay for their years of stealing and brigandage. We we warned Tinubu was coming to tax Nigerians to death some people thought we were joking. As long as Nigerians continues to be foolish these politicians will always have their way. |

jmoore: N18,000 per month. Estimated billing. I deposited for meter since last year June but they returned the money despite having paid for the new meter incremental price. They claimed they don't know when meter will be available and they don't want to hold my money. |

IbeOkehie: Prices won't come down if government is moving away from subsidies, because even the US government provides electricity subsidies to both companies and individuals to keep production costs or consumer payments lower. Don't swallow everything they tell you, do your own research and call your government to order 1 Like |

jayce232:See why I said Obidenses are illiterates. So you don't know that industries will prefer 20hrs PHCN electricity to diesel generators. Even at that increased rate the cost of production will be lower because some companies left Nigeria because of the cost of diesel. Ghana that they go is more expensive than Nigeria but available. Anything to avoid diesel generators is far better. I know how much I spend on petrol generator for 6hours compared to 6hrs of PHCN. Sometimes times five. 2 Likes |

Ashawoman82: There was never any $16bn. Iweala Okonji, who was the finance minister then said it was never more than $4bn. Don't forget that OBJ paid off the country's debt with $12bn, left $20bn in the Excess Crude Account. And through his regime, the oil price never hovered above $65/barrel. The government was the most prudent the country has ever had.. 5 Likes |

Max24:You don't have single sense You are comparing your usage to industrial usage? What do u have in your house? Use your electric iron on your phcn for 1 hour & use fuel for 1 hour & see which will be cheaper in the long run. We are talking about industries with machines & u are talking about your empty house. Arguing with u people is draining, u talk like robots! Anyone questioning this govt decision is automatically obidient? Was it only Labour party & APC that contested the last elections? You don't know they were mixing power supply with diesel? Were they running constantly on diesel?? Let them add this new tarrif price to the mix & see if it doesn't reflect on their products. Every thing has been baseless hope upon hope, yet we are still yet to benefit anything & u are comparing Nigeria to Ghana? You are a fowl! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Tayorshd87:why are the politicians not suffering to enjoy tomorrow? Una go just wake up dey yàn wetin una like. Did you bother to ask yourself if developed countries went through this excruciating pain to get to whr they are today? Only in Nigeria are we told to suffer today and enjoy tomorrow. socialmediaman: The USA is rich because its economy is based on liberal capitalism and free markets. The US government has chosen to subsidizes some things because there's money to pay for it. The USA is one of the richest countries in the world while Nigeria is the Poverty Capital of the World. There's no basis for comparing the two. The State of North Carolina is about the 10th largest GDP in the USA and their 2023 Budget was $30 billion and it ran a budget surplus. The Federal Budget of Nigeria has not exceeded $40 billion since 1999. The collective TOTAL REVENUE of all federal, state and local governments in Nigeria has been less than $30 billion dollars for at least the past 5 years, probably longer. From that total about 90% has been going to pay INTEREST on the public debt. For at least a decade the government has been borrowing to supplement those revenues, to the point that HALF the budget for 2023 was borrowed money...which was used to pay for everything else, including various subsidies like pilgrimages and N-Power grants and Anchor Borrower Loans. So Nigeria is BANKRUPT, there's no money to pay ANY subsidy for ANYTHING. In the last 8 years the government solution to this bankruptcy was PRINTING MONEY not backed with any productivity and the result has been massive inflation of prices. Electricity can't be an exception. When the NIGERIAN PEOPLE learn and demand the implementation of FREE MARKET CAPITALISM, Nigeria will become rich and then the government can afford to pay subsidies. Until then, the people must learn to be realistic in their demands. Or the government can continue printing naira to pay for everything, let's see how far that will go. It appears Nigerians haven't learned their lessons from the past 8 years. Good Luck to Nigerians 3 Likes |

IbeOkehie:why is Nigeria the poverty capital of the world? What is the disparity between the pay of the minimum wager in USA and its senators compared to that of Nigeria? I don't know why you people will always look for very primitive alibi to justify why Nigerians must continue to live in perpetual poverty. The senators' wages keep going high in Nigeria, but the citizens must suffer to enjoy tomorrow. Only in Nigeria do we spend billions buying cars for senators all the time, yet whr they are leaving office they go with this cars and other office equipments. 1 Like |

I noticed some fools were making references to band A-D rubbish and in the process trying to silence others making their statements ....based on over sabi... . Let's look into the implications of this hike ....forget the bands rubbish.........Nigeria is a country filled with greedy selfish gullible moral cowards were the law of the invisible hands and gravity's hardly works......tht is,once u creat a policy of increament it will be automatically sabotaged...for gains by some idiots who will tag it as grace later........this hike will creat a divide now ....the so called band d will no longer see the 4hrs light bcus the normal nigerians mentality of show off will begin to pay more money to get enough light at the detriment of the poor .....thus at the end this hike will bring about additional billings (secret) on the poor .........prices of some perishables will surge .... immediately owing to the normal mindset of a Nigerian always trying to profit from every lapses........brace up for impacts........Nigeria can only get better when they are ready to go the sri lanka way... 1 Like |

Tayorshd87: Some one made a comparison between North Dakota and Texas in the US and Nigeria even with their minimum wage($7.25) having more purchasing power than the minimum wage of Nigeria(#30k) , we are paying more than them even when they enjoy 24 hours non stop electricity and we don't. Is it the overseas you are talking about? When making comparison make an informed comparison and not just throw words like a layman who doesn't know what to say as regards the subject matter. 1 Like |

IbeOkehie: There's actually basis for comparing the two. Nigerian legislators are some of the highest paid in the world, Nigerian government expenditures for foreign trips and even executive allowances and expenditures compare to the rest of the developed world. A governor in the US can't afford to spend money the way Nigerian governors can. So tell me, why can't the US be compared to Nigeria? |
