grin

Indeed.

Smart people get wary whenever the words "1st class", "accountancy", "accounting" etc. come up in the same sentence.

Nigerians have walked down this road before. They were told several incredible tales about a so called "1st class accountant". cheesy Look how that turned out. undecided

The interview stated that the main reason is because government has been subsidising and it's unsustainable so they approved NERC's recommendation that electricity consumers who get electricity for 20 hours and above should be taken off subsidy so that government can still manage to cope giving subsidies to those enjoying less hours of electricity.

Why on earth are you telling people to go to school? Do you think people are uneducated because they do not agree with you or with the policies of this government? Things are difficult for quite a number of people and the government that should make things easier is making life difficult and you think no one should complain!!!! You expect someone living in a particular area, who may have built their house years ago, to pay an exorbitant bill wether they can afford it or not!!! Imagine!!!! I hope the members of the government pay the exorbitant electricity bill.

If this minister is as intelligent as you say, then he should show it. Right now, he sounds completely unintelligent by saying people leave their freezers on!!! Are we supposed to put off our freezers? We do not want members of government who are intelligent without any shred of humanity.

What's the business of accountant in an engineering dept? When he suppose to be appointed as the head of finance in the ministry of power

A sound elect elect graduate Nigerian with many international experiences in power generation in was suppose to held that position not an accountant whom their major objective is to maximize profit for their principals

If Nigerians are compel to pay more on electricity, first make the power supply to be 20hrs at least available then we can discuss on hike in electricity tariffs, you can be increasing electricity tariffs with low supply of power. This is complete capitalism

Those that surrounded Tinubu are just complete capitalists

He has a point. Majority of those who leave their ac and freezer on are those who are in his class. Ministers ,governors , legislootors, senithieves the those generally in the political class. Everything is free paid by our common wealth. This dud is delusional and has lost sense with reality. Go to and govt house they have light 247. What is this man saying. The cost of electricity has been increased by over 200% and your silly excuse is to bring a silly narrative that Nigerians are wasteful in electricity. His the dud aware that 4 local government in ondo ( irele, ilaje, okitipupa and see odo has not had light for over 12 years. Selfish people. I wonder how they sleep at night if they even sleep at all. Thunder fire all of them.

They have come again. Blame the people as usual. Nigerians have been using electricity for years it got to APC's turn they have started blaming the people for how they use electricity. Bunch of failures.

The thing is, power is very expensive to produce

Nairametrics has stated that it would cost 100 billion dollars to give every Nigerian 24 hour power supply. Over a period of 5 years. And the only way it can be done is to let the power sector charge cost reflective tarrifs.

Yes, the power companies made over one trillion naira in profit last year. Good for them. They also owe 1.7 trillion to the gas man,and the gas man has also raised their prices recently. Then they owe state and federal government taxes. Also three of the discos declared force majeure because they cannot earn enough. Then there are the losses from corruption and mismanagement and power theft. Even aso Rock don't pay for power.

So either we pay cost reflective tarrifs or we would never have good enough power.

People on this site have abused me and trolled me for this my belief. And even called me apc supporter when apc is still paying subsidy. But the sad thing is, no matter how much you abuse me , it costs money to generate power. And things like new power stations cost money. Expanding the grid to carry 50000 mw, which is what we need to supply everyone and even export power will cost a lot of money.

So, we can keep lying to ourselves anyway. Lying to ourselves by paying subsidy for 50 years is why we are here with bad power.

GSM works better because they have the right to set their prices.

At the end, I am.not defending any useless government. Back when pdp was in charge most of the people defending subsidy then are attacking it now. Most of the subsidy removal supporters now are people who when gej wanted to remove it were attacking him. Am sure some of you think I marched at ojota. I didn't. Infact gej, noi and sls are the people who taught me why subsidy is bad. It strikes down growth and profit. Even when you make the profit , it don't do much. I have held this view for 12 years, and it has nothing to do with politics.

So Nigerians, as useless as this apc government is, their self inflicted financial mess has forced them to take the first steps towards a wise decision. We need investors and the reasons why we never had sane people buying our power sector is because none of them want to come and invest and never see their investment because subsidy. Once that is gone, things might change.

You are free to disagree with me and to call me government propaganda and to say am making the poor suffer. Or you can support your right to defend the right to make a profit. Whether disco or you. You will never cut your prices to help the poor. You have a business to run.

( Any abuse is useless. You don't need to get mad over the fact that things cost money after all.)

What happened if government spend that $100b and later increase electricity tariff? Must the poor citizens pay for darkness in order for wasteful government to have money to fix power?

What is the purpose of government if they can't provide basic amenities for the masses to benefit. Do you even know how much Buhari administration and Tinubu had borrowed so far in the name of projects with absolute no impact on standard of living of Nigerians?

The reality is that, these people are evils, and they care less about those they are govern. It is average mentality of black people, so I don't blame them because we are all useless to our continent as living creatures.

Is like you are still being fed by your parents or directly benefiting from this useless leaders calling themselves rullers. Is like Nigeria has never happened to you, go and check how much they budgeted for themselves couple with the ones they embezzled and tell me if Nigeria cannot easily provide 24/7 electricity for her citizens withiout necessarily being force to pay for darkness.

Is it a crime to be a Nigerian, my business is at the verge of total collapse due to electricity problem. With what I spend on generator, I can gladly pay the new tariff rate but what is the point of paying for darkness and still spend another money to fuel your generator? Let assume you need 20 hours of light per day, and they manage to give you 4 hours out of it, the remaining 16hours would be run by expensive fuel, so tell me how the businesses are going to make profits or survive.

U are off-point Mr man. That minister's education is not in tandem with his portfolio and u need to grow some brains to understand the context of the topic and quit telling people to go school.
