It was installed January 3rd, it got fried February 6th
But Would installing a DC surge have really saved the inverter?? I'm just curious.. and secondly, was your inverter earthed? Did the frying occur during the day or at night?

Foani jinko prices has reduced......discovered this midnight, i ordered 2 625w panels this morning and has it delivered at my abode already. Those guys mean business.

Hello @adrusa,

Please assist me with how you were able to connect your Felicity CC to MPP solar's MPPTracker and read the stats. i would appreciate if you could explain how you achieved this.

i am looking for a way to get data off my Felicity Charge controller and may considering selling off my felicity inverter cuz i cant get data off their ports or even find a device that can connect to it.

It is straightforward, just connect and fire up MPPTracker, but there is one little snag, the cable pinout appears to be unusual. You may have to modify your RJ45 to serial cable according to the pinout I previously posted here. If you are using a usb port, you also need a USB to serial converter.

Or you could use ESPHOME if that is something you are able to do. You can follow the guide from here: https://github.com/syssi/esphome-pipsolar

I have no idea of the surge protector would have protected it or not, I’m not that much of a guru how that works. It occurred during the day oooo

Buy as much PVs as you can without going into debt. Get a 120A charge controller for ease of future expansion. Thank you

Thank you so much for the advise. I do appreciate

Please Help 🙏🙏
I have two brand new 200 watts panel connected in parallel, both panels have a maximum power current of 11 amp. But when i connect it to my pwm 60A charge controller, they both produce around 5-7 amps total instead of 22A. What could be the problem?

1. YOUR BATTERY may have been full
2. fake panels
3. wrong cable size
4. pv spec exceed pwm cc acceptable specs.
5. fake/ substandard pwm cc

Please what's the right cable size?
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mank1234(m): 8:36pm On Apr 06
@Emmypam Your panel Vmp may be too close to the battery voltage.
When insolation is high, measure voltage at the input terminal of the controller and also the voltage of the battery.

No 6. Display could be wrong. Get a clamp mater and cross check.

Do you think i would get better performance if i upgrade to an mppt charge controller?

Got the battery pack delivered today…Haven’t tested, my inverter got fried by lightning and it’s been at Felicity company since Tuesday.

Sorry to hear about the inverter. Was it connected to the grid? I keep saying this, and will say it again: if you don't have resources to install/correct the earthing system in our house, please don't charge/connect your inverter via grid. If you must charge via grid, you MUST be there to monitor it. Once you sense rain or a storm coming, DISCONNECT YOUR SYSTEM COMPLETELY FROM THE GRID.

Does it mean those that are off grid should have no worry about thunderstorm and rain??

You still do, but risk of damage is now significantly reduced.

Take it slow, Nobody is completely free. If you are doing solar, safety first, good earthing is not negotiable. If you stay in an area that does not experience direct hit by lightning aka Thor, most of the power surges come from the grid lines. So, eliminate that first and do propare earthing system for all your installation. Our grid is the number one weak link in the system.

No sir it’s not connected to a grid, although the inverter support grid charging but I do not connect it to grid.
I was recharging my battery with solar panel normally like every other day and then it started raining so I turn off the breaker from the solar panel to disconnect voltage and current coming from PV to pass through to the inverter to charge the battery but I didn’t switch my main house change over to neutral…I left it the way it was meaning the inverter is still supplying power to the house and I’m using it to run my freezer and then the lightning struck and I heard a bang‼️ and the rest was history
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Ferdiwar: 11:37am On Apr 07
So sorry for what happened to your setup but an SPD without a functional earthing is still useless.

RickyM:

Looks like the installer that did my job did a terrible job as there is not even surge protections or anything except circuit breaker in between solar panel connection to the inverter.

Sorry I missed your questions last month, I've been away for a while now.

1. I got my deye battery from Xtra power here in Lagos.

2. Yes I make use of AC (1.5HP non inverter AC) with my setup but only between 11am to 4pm.

that is not always the case as thunder can affect anything... i had a friend who wasnt even using a hybrid system... inverter wasnt plugged to the grid.. yet thunder dealt with it

Hello everyone,

I had an installer complete a 2.5KVA solar at my home. However, a piece of the battery cap broke and has been crusting leading to at least 1 episode of power outage. I fear that this would recur and of course, the installer is MIA, lots of excuses and stories. I am trying to fix this and a picture is attached, kindly advise.

Where can I buy the cap and is it a DIY replacement or do I have a bigger challenge?

Installation is less than 6 months old by the way. That's one heck of an installer for you.
