I'm not surprised most comments here are supportive of this daft EFCC policy. It's Nigerians after all, trust them to embrace foolishness. People are using dollars for good reasons. People act rationally in their personal interest. Nigerians didn't wake up one day and start demanding dollars. President Tinubu as far back as 2013 or 2014 was an advocate for massive printing of naira for government to spend. He even engaged in a war of words with then Finance Minister Ngozi Iweala. She warned it would cause inflation. I've previously supplied links to two major policy statements written by Tinubu at that time. APC won control of the Federal Government and President Buhari implemented exactly that policy. Nigerians voted for him and his policies. He directed the CBN to print and print and print to supply money needed to fulfill his campaign promises to Nigerians such as Anchor Borrowers Scheme, N-Power, retention of fuel subsidy, School Feeding Program, Conditional Cash Transfer and much more. These are ALL cash spending programs, literal GIVING AWAY MONEY to Nigerians. The government also borrowed massive amounts of money to supplement spending, producing huge budget deficits. The latest CBN audit published after much delay showed the new Tinubu Government printed 2.6 Trillion naira between May and Dec 2023!!!! All this inflation under their previous APC government and they still continued printing! Dem de craze The increase in money supply since 2015 has destroyed the value of the naira. Nigerians lost confidence in their currency and for good reason. Nigerians with money in the bank watched the value of their savings shrink. Their SAVED naira and expected earnings couldn't buy as much as it used to. So they switched to dollars for the express purpose of preserving the VALUE of their legitimately earned money. The APC governments caused the problem. Their policies drove Nigerians to the dollar. This initiative is futile. The best way to persuade Nigerians is to improve the economy. Set the economy free!!!! You can't force me to use toilet paper as currency because you CLAIM it's worth something. That's FRAUD by use of FORCE, it's despicable. It's literal 419 fraud. But Nigerians voted for this nonsense and actually deserve what they're getting. A government that FORCES the citizens to suffer losses. In fact this shows the government has no credible medium term plan to make the economy better. Only guns and jack boots. Nonsense & Ingredients. Good Luck to Nigeria. |

BondRiv: And how do Nigerians preserve the value of their earnings and assets while government policy destroys the naira? Asking for a friend because inflation is killing and patriotism isn't helping. Good Luck to Nigerians. |

Tell FIRS not to collect taxes in Dollars too. This helps to put pressure on the naira. The elephant in the room is the politician(s) who would steal huge naira and would look for ways to convert it to dollar. Make it difficult for such transactions to happen. Break the black market too. Once everything is done, we'll record more gains. This is a good move. If we're not senseless, in which other country does this madness happen? |
