I'm left of center and always like to thread the part least followed. I'd say consider a career in real time communications. VoIP specifically. Learn Asterisk or Freeswitch. Recently stumbled across some Nigerian guys working for Telnyx as devs. Glass door suggests they may be pulling in around $100k per annum although I think it's closer to $84k. These are direct full-time employees, not Independent Contractors like us. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Atsujnr: What you really need is a face-time teacher either virtually or physically to hand-hold you for a start because your first 3 months in tech will be a whirlwind & you will be frustrated most of time. 1 Like |

airsaylongcome: Does this depend on country the OP is relocating to, I am asking because jobs are generally available in US for all types of skill. but when it comes to EU, then we start having troubles finding the companies hiring depending on which EU country. 1 Like |

tosinhtml: Interesting question. The only challenge I've had getting EU jobs in voice is their GDPR wahala with restrictions on where data in rest or in motion can be. Interestingly is that two of the major open source software widely used in this field are built in Europe. The global leading VoIP software for business is by a business operating from the EU. So I'd say there is a demand in Europe. In the EU at least. Definitely they won't be matching US pay but there are opportunities |

airsaylongcome: Talking with regards to voice software. Do you know service voice? A product of Salesforce and aws for contact centers? |
Re: Tech Skill To Learn by airsaylongcome: 12:21pm On Apr 12 |
tensazangetsu20: Service CLOUD Voice. Yes I know of them. And have played with the product a bit. It's a mostly used for outbound calling although it can play both roles of inbound/outbound. The primary open source equivalents are Vicidial (you will have to adapt to its antiquated UI) and Goautodial. An interesting one I'm looking at now is Fonoster, which claims to be a Twilio open source equivalent. Ẹ don tey o. How your way? |

tensazangetsu20: Nice nice. Yankee customer? Or your side? It's crazy playing in the contact centre space in the US because of new regulations regarding Caller ID. A lot of outbound calling centres want to rotate through a number of Caller IDs which can set of bells that can mark the calls as Spam Likely |

airsaylongcome: LATAM client. Tech is vast o. I met a guy here that works with a niche hospital care software and he makes equivalent of 150k USD annually. Funny enough, these things are even easier to learn than the normal coding we want to kill ourselves with. 3 Likes |
Re: Tech Skill To Learn by airsaylongcome: 3:00pm On Apr 12 |
tensazangetsu20: That's the funny truth o. These "alternate" solutions are quicker entry routes. At entry level, I'd rather have people follow these non mainstream solutions to get a foothold. But at the mid and top levels, developer money is blood money sha. Hospital software, are very niche. I tried a few between 2009 and 2013. You really have to be in the space and understand healthcare space. I used one called openVista and it looked really sleek at the time. But omo, the thing dey fly pass my head. Maybe if I had a home lab and unfettered Internet I may have gone far down that route. LATAM is such a great location for the US market. I have a colleague from Argentina and the guy is low key working for 3 employers at the time. All in tech. This na person wey read law for uni o! Baba threw himself into tech and now is in charge of writing a lot of python and bash scripts to automate our work. Hin self dey privately automate all his personal work so does actual work for only like 10 hours per week with the remaining hours running on several of his personal automations 1 Like |

airsaylongcome: LATAM is great for the US market but the interview process in tech here is not a joke at all. Interviews here are very hard and thorough and long too with multiple stages. |

airsaylongcome: Serious connections are needed to get such full-time jobs, if you know you know! |
Re: Tech Skill To Learn by airsaylongcome: 4:55pm On Apr 12 |
MindHacker9009: Naaaah bruv. Let's disabuse our mindset like this. Is it harder to get now with serious reduction in remote work? Yes. But I assure you it has nothing to do with "connection" (nepotism). One of the Telnyx guys had been working on Freeswitch (a telephony software) for sometime, contributing several modules to another software that relies on Freeswitch. All open source. When you put in the effort, it pays in the end. Not all employers are like Nigerian employers. Tons of them hire based on competence. 3 Likes 1 Share |

If such a claim can be made in such a well regulated field overseas: "Gang culture at neurosurgery department, doctor alleges https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1vw50n04kqo then what goes on in software sector where there are no regulations and anyone can just walk into it. MindHacker9009: If you want to bury your head in outliers like these. Be my guest. My experience has been very different and I am not going to banter or exchange words with you that "connection" is what is needed to get high paying jobs. I'm going to put my back into it and prove my mettle. Have a great day |

Re: Tech Skill To Learn by tosinhtml: 9:01pm On Apr 13 |
tensazangetsu20: What is the average number of interview stages and is this constant for all company size, startups to medium size companies? |
Re: Tech Skill To Learn by tensazangetsu20(m): 9:35pm On Apr 13 |
tosinhtml: At big companies average interview stages is around 6 stages with at least 3 technical interviews. Smaller companies have 3 to 4 with one or two technical interviews stages. |
Re: Tech Skill To Learn by MindHacker9009(m): 11:01pm On Apr 13 |
tensazangetsu20: The question no one is asking is whether any of their own full time staff in those companies can pass those technical interviews under the same conditions. I once heard that a lead dev was asked by his manager to pass on a technical test to interview candidates, so the lead dev decided to give the technical test to their own devs first and guess what none of them could pass the technical test. The truth is that getting most of these tech roles is who you know not what you know. But only with a very good luck and very good ability can someone not connected still manage to get such tech roles. |
Re: Tech Skill To Learn by tensazangetsu20(m): 12:17am On Apr 14 |
MindHacker9009: The interviews aren't undoable. They just require a lot of preparation and attention to detail. Man know man only makes the interview process much more difficult except it's a rubbish company. |
Re: Tech Skill To Learn by tosinhtml: 12:35am On Apr 14 |
tensazangetsu20: Yeah, but also in some cases when Indians & Pakistanis are involved in smaller companies, I've seen them giving the proposed tech questions to their fellow Indian applicants prior to the interview. They do this thing underground a lot with their own people, some of those interviews are not on a fair playing field with everyone. 1 Like |
