Good evening everyone, hope our day has been good? I will really appreciate guidance regarding the present admission stage (co-asking) for my sister who got admission to study a Maters program at *Truft* I am sorry not correctly spelt I meant* TUFTS *Uni. (August is the expected resumption) With a 40% grant off the tuition payment. And has 2wks to pay a non refundable deposit of $300 *Currently $300 is under process of being paid. *Already sent mail to the sch. to confirm the actual amount expected to be paid for the program of study after the deduction of the 40% grant so that her I-20 can be received. *Also, written and mailed admission and departmental head for more scholarship option /GTA to offset the remaining deficits. (*Just in; response from school States she has to pay the $300 first to get any info regarding GTA/TA as these options has a limited space... Biko is this normal 🤔? ) My questions are; 1. God forbid, para venture no scholarship or GTA is given as requested, when should we start building her/ sponsor's (Father) account? 2. Will she need to prove the financial statement she will be going with to the embassy during her interview and can she go with the sponsor (father) on her interview day? 3. Can she start looking for appointment date now? Even though I-20 is yet to be received. 4. What are the requirements needed to get an appointment date for interview as an F1 student. Thank you all for your time as I look forward to getting your feedbacks. 1 Like 2 Shares |

Aishat89: Hey 🤠 @Aishat89. ** Truft University, though a private institution in the USA is still very well respected , and therefore should keep to their policies (40% grant off tuition payment for your sister). *** And Yes, the $300 has to be paid first in order for the admissions office to take your sister serious and start the processing of her Form I-20. That's the norm. 1. Either they give your sister GTA or not , you must send your dad's financial capability evidence (bank statement) to Truft before they can issue her Form I 20. 2. Yes , she must go to her F1 visa interview with your dad's financial evidence (perhaps the original copy of the one she sent to Truft). Her tuition deficit will reflect in her Form I 20 and the CO (consular officer) will ask her how she want to offset it upon resumption. 3. Don't rush. Focus on securing her Form I 20 and the payment of SEVIS fee as well as the MRV (Visa fee payment @ GTB) first. Once those ones are settled , I bet she will secure a date for her interview prior to her August resumption. But you have to make everything snappy ! 4. The requirements for her to get a normal or emergency F1 visa appointment date is to ; Secure Form I 20, Pay MRV and SEVIS fee. Best Wishes 🙏 1 Like |

Did you mean to say Tufts University in MA? I have not heard of Truft University before today but maybe it truly exists. If your sister insists it is Trufts, ensure that it is a SEVP-certified school and ensure it is not a fake university. Below is the DHS link to SEVP-certified schools. Trufts is not listed. Maybe she means Tufts which is well=known. https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/school-search There have been instances of fake universities with names similar to well-known ones with the goal of preying on international students. A payment of any amount before a GA offer or I20 issuance is not common. It is not the norm despite what anyone says. Showing financial documents before your I20 is issued is the norm. People on this thread have received I20 forms on this thread and none of them paid anything before they received their I20. If you look back a few pages on this thread, there are folks who have been offered GAs/TAs/RAs and nobody has mentioned paying for information for any of these positions. If you have $300 and want to take a chance, then by all means pay it. Otherwise look for another school. A university that is willing to give you 40% off tuition should not be trying to shake you down for $300. Aishat89: 3 Likes |

JohnZak: Hello, I have no idea about the school but it isn’t uncommon for some schools or program to require deposits especially in CS/DS/ML/AI MS programs. My friend got into Columbia University for MS in Quantum science and Engineering and the required non refundable deposit was $4000. $4000!!! Which had to be paid 2weeks after they received the admission letter. |

I do not doubt that some schools ask incoming students to make a non-refundable tuition deposit. This is typically done to confirm enrollments and lock-in commitments from incoming students so that the programs can let waitlisted applicants know if they will be ultimately accepted or not. Certain programs, especially private or Ivy League programs (like Columbia) or programs that receive a high number of applications, require a tuition deposit for these purposes. However, tying the release of information about GA opportunities or a GA offer (that may or may not be made to a prospective student) to any payment is not common, especially after the school has waived almost half of your tuition. Again, many people on this thread have been offered GAs at the same time admission was extended to them and few (if any) have stated that they had to pay anything before the GA offer was made. Ultimately, it is the OP's choice. I just offered my opinion. As long as they ensure that the school is legit and that it is Tufts Uni and not Trufts Uni. I wish them all the best! Zihno: 3 Likes |

OyoTunjiUSA: Thank you very much for the explicit explanation...the uni's name isn't Truft but TUFTS UNIVERSITY the mistake was from me. I am surprised 😯 to hear that some schools do no request for financial statements before I -20 can be issued. Regardless we just have to start building the account that will be needed. I appreciate everyone ones response and I don glue my chair here for more beta info. Aishat89: Hey 🤠 1. Henceforth don't disturb yourself about over-wise opinions . You made a typo error which i followed suit. Every reasonable person should even Google for him or her to know that you meant Tufts . 2. The Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe of Nairaland even disputed the payment of spot deposit (tuition deposit in UK and Canada) prior to the issuance of Form I 20. Thanks to @Zihno who quickly shut his mouth up. 3. Go ahead with your preparations my dear. If Havard University denied you admission to study Msc Economics but ORU (Oral Roberts University) offered you same admission with the condition to pay spot deposit of even $1000 prior to the issuance of Form I 20 won't you accept to pay if you have the money ? 4. 75% of USA higher institutions will ask you to send financial statement before they issue Form I 20. That is their agreement with the USA government (to verify that foreign students have enough money for their educational expenses upon arrival). Many schools have been suspended or shut down indefinitely for not following this rule. Best Wishes 🙏 |

Paying $300 as a spot deposit or sending bank statement to USA institutions before Form I 20 is issued is contrary? Or you guys just don't want to read my opinions again as a result of hatred. 3. You @Debieeeeee with John are lack of further ideas . Your bridges are lonely. Go home stop misleading visa applicants into failures . Mention 5 applicants openly from your group who are successful with their visas in this year 2024 . 4. I know your click will soon be coming out now with fake USA visas and working permits. Or do you have a major share on NL ? 3. When @Zihno corrected your Johnsack about the payment of spot deposit in USA institutions he quickly swallowed his words below .......... ** JOHNSACK I do not doubt that some schools ask incoming students to make a non-refundable tuition deposit. This is typically done to confirm enrollments. 4. John actually came in order to capitalise on the typo error and use the opportunity to rubbish my opinion (as your norms) but he has forgotten that typo error is allow in all organisations of the world. Madam Debbie! LOL @ The USA lawyer apprentice. The man who has been kicked off NL multiple times only to return with various usernames (NewBoyKhasoggi ---> BagOfSweets ---> ArinzeAminu ---> SleepingTablets ---> OyoTunji). The man is known to consistently share wrong information and when he is called out, he starts rambling and deflecting. As usual, he starts responding to a post before he even comprehends it. My posts on the issue he is referring to are unchanged. I will reiterate that the only thing an international student must do in order to receive their I20 is to meet admission requirements, be admitted and submit their financial documents. I20 is a federal immigration document authorized by DHS. The school issues it on behalf of SEVIS DHS. The International Student Office processes I20; not the Admissions office. You can pay the entire tuition but without the financial docs, they won't issue the I20. Some schools may require a token tuition deposit to hold a student’s spot/confirm enrollment for the reasons I mentioned in my other post. However, U.S. schools (not Canadian or UK) can and will routinely waive this deposit until the beginning of the semester/tuition deadline. You can even pay the entire tuition but without the financial docs, they won't issue the I20. Secondly, based on posts here, most people on this thread have gotten GAs and information about GAs without paying a dime for this information. GA opportunities are not hidden or secretive. They are posted on departmental listserv daily. If a faculty member likes a prospective student during the admissions process, they will reach out to them and vice-versa. The man woke up this morning looking for someone to argue with and trying to derail the thread. He is yet to realise that I don’t do online arguments. Anyway, I am glad that the OP confirmed their university and got the clarification that they wanted. Good luck to the OP Debbieeeeeee: 2 Likes |

Hi Is it possible to change a visa type from B1/B2 to F1 after being approved to schedule? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by JohnZak: 10:03am On Apr 16 |
The bank statement must cover the total cost that is due to you otherwise they are not likely to issue the I20. Ayosharon4321: 1 Like |

JohnZak: Hey 🤠 @OgaJohn. 1. I thought you said someone can get I 20 without sending financial evidences to schools ? It's a shame you are swallowing your words . You with @Debieeeeee the Devil are old schools with outdated USA visa policies knowledges. Go back to my posts and learn. 2. Yes you are right . I have been banned several times from Nairaland because of @Debieeeeee, and you and others of your clicks as well as your conspiracies. You guys are dictators who does not want positive competitions that will bring growth to Nairaland . 3. Common. It is high time Nairaland started recording 75% visa success transcripts in a year . You have all failed Nairaland. You need new ideas. Best Wishes 🙏 |
