The absolute dire state of cinema culture mann ๐Ÿ˜ซ. The wait time for blockbusters to hit VOD shelves is like one month!. At this despicable rate, no movie is clocking 1bn greens anytime soon, even gulping 500 mil, would be an absolute miracle fgs.
In the case of Monkey Man, I wasn't expecting it to make a lot of money. I just know it will be very successful on streaming

Based on this release date, December this year is shaping up to be a bloodbath.

We have two beloved franchise films coming out, two legacy movies and a growing and promising videogame franchise. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
hey. Remind me again the title of the upcoming movie where a little girl is a vampire?

True man. Cinema culture is somewhat dieing due to economic headwinds impacting the entire industry worldwide.

Remember seeing AQUAMAN 2 in January and we were like 10 I'm peak holiday period ooo. I'm not thinking what weekdays would be although it's box office collection in Nigerian cinema says it was a huge box office draw. So it was probably frontloaded in the first few weeks in December.
Similar experience with The Batman in March 2022.

Let's face it. Proper cinema culture wasn't really a thing here, people on here see it as some sort social status climber than actual love for movies, which leads me to ask, are there reliable sources for B.O. numbers from Nigeria?

As you rightly said, the insane rate at which premium content drop on VOD platforms makes it even worse for people to go to cinema. But I feel it's economics that's the biggest pain point. If one really wanted to see something in theatres and the cost is favourable or negligible, no matter, they'll see it in theatres. NGL tho, early VOD release has eased one's pocket and the pressure of watching it in cinemas.
There's the feeling of watching something in theatres then 2 weeks later it's out in the high seas... shรฏt be making you feel some type of way. ๐Ÿ˜‚
True. I can't really explain it, except you have a dedicated cinema/media room in your house, nothing beats seeing a true blockbuster on the biggest screen and Hi-Fi sound possible which is the cinema. You'd be absolutely lying if you think you can recreate such ambience with your core i3, 13 inches laptop on top your mattress ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. But then again, when one is being plagued by the economy of the poverty capital of world, best believe, people are definitely going to be waiting the short period for VOD to drop than spending insane amount for movie tickets

Funny trend I noticed is that normal standard theatres in North America or Europe are not even the ones benefiting from the high performing movies this year. It's IMAX Cinemas reaping the results with about 40% and above gross coming from it for films such as DUNE 2, GxK and co. The hardcore franchise watchers are opting for the premium experience while average cinema goers are showing more apathy. That's a huge problem for cinema chains like AMC, Cinemark and the likes.

And shit like this is looking to continue with upcoming franchise films like Furiosa, Kingdom of the Planet of Apes, Alien: Romulus and co.

so basically, if your movie is not IMAX shot, there is a very high chance of it hitting apathy with casual movie goers, bearing in mind, shooting in IMAX shoots budget of flicks up, and so, many flicks will fall short, because prod companies are only willing to shoot in IMAX for only true blockbusters

Anyway bro, like i have always stated, movies hit a plateau around peak COVID era, and the industry has been experiencing a diminishing return as actual good movies are a rare find these days. To put things in perspectives, Dune 2 might be the only really recent flick i have coped in a long while, all the others have been flicks i missed out on, from yester years. So as it is now, i am not even arsed about seeing any flick at the Cinema, anytime soon, so i am a big fan of these flicks dropping like flies on VOD almost immediately after cinematic release ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ

That was the original plan, only for Jordan Peele to swoop in and try a big screen gimmick, but tbf, the budget was about $10m. That is a classic archetype small budget streaming flick

Well well well..... Very early as is the trend this year.

Food don land... Time to see which amazement Sweeney don cook here. It's great she's taking on more challenging roles and trying to wean herself from that cute blonde bimbo archetype.

went to Alaba international market earlier this week, passed through the section where I normally buy DVD series yearssss ago, and couldn't even recognize it anymore. Everything's now digitalized. Remember buying those prison break/24 DVDs back then grin change is truly constant

In 2007, I remember buying season 1 to 4 of Prison Break. I later found out that season 2 was yet to be concluded
