Looking at NSE 30, the monthly bond auction dates seem to align with red days in the market. Most likely it's the same effect with the main all share index. (Did not find the all share index readily so I made do with the NSE 30 as it should be representative enough)

Looking at the past the market should recover in about 3 days if this current red is due to the demand for funds from the bond market.
But this April deep started some days before the auction, so there is a possibility recovery will be faster or perhaps slower. The first market deep was also on Jan 29, the auction date for that month.

People and institutions buying bonds don't sell shares in order to invest in bonds.

Over N900 billion was bidded yesterday but over N600 billion was successful.

Where is the extra N300 billion returned to investors?

They will rather invest it in fixed deposit or money market fund for 28 days to 30 days earning about 15% and the bid again in the primary market next month or better still buy in the secondary market from today

the next one may be lower as its now dropping gradually as seen from the range of bids. One has to bid under 20% to be successful with the longest tenor next time else, the money will be waiting for higher rates and this may not come

I expect rates to increase marginally during next month auction, due to demand and supply.

I expect demand to reduce in May

Stuff like this is not cast in stone as the various people involved have various dispositions.

The size of the bond market trade in the monthly auction is bigger than the sum of trades on the NGX in most months I guess. The data is readily available. Nothing stops me from selling FBNH at N40 to buy FGN bonds when the opportunity came up. Neither did anything stop you from selling DS when you did to key the proceeds into bonds. And this happening can be a reason for the pull backs observed in the last picture i pulled from investing.com

Today's red was too deep. The auction was yesterday and unsuccessful investors were refunded to the tune of about N300 billion, yet the
market lost over 1% today. Thet is the highest in a long time

Look at the chart I shared for NSE 30 daily candle pattern.
Or this one here for the all share index
The dips line up with the auction dates in Feb, Mar & April.
The dip in January was the day after the auction.
The February bond auction day dip was the biggest. Not surprised because of the interest rate jump from 16 to 19% (Jan vs Feb auction results for 10 year bonds)
The March dip was small (perhaps due to no major bond interest rate jump and high expectations while waiting for audited results to be released).
This Apr auction day dip is far smaller than the Feb dip.
However last five days suggest a trend downwards in the NSE 30 and NSE All Share Index. But I am seeing a support forming today. Next three days will tell us more grin. Nothing is cast in stone with Mr Market, he has a mind of his own.

Expected rate hike in the US. Can FG attract more investment from that hot cash, especially if we could offer better return amidst stable fx. grin
