Just say you're too lazy or too greedy to work it out.

If actually we know what service means in this clime, you're the one that will map out the template and make sure it works.

It'll even make your job easier.
But you'll support it when you're no longer on sit.

Same way Ex presidents are supporting restructuring now that they're no longer in power.

Most Blackmen think only of themselves.
Zero sacrificial spirit.
That's our bane.

We are not ripe for state police.

Ultimately, the problem is funding for me. All my other objections, I have dismissed them, even the tribalism and religion one. If state police is going to be tribalistic, they will end up losing investors. Bad news. SO, state police is going to work.

But funding is a big problem. A BIG PROBLEM. States that most cannot pay the current mininum wage, talkless new wage...are now going to fund state police. Okay. Either state starts charging everyone tax...which I know Nigerians don't like, or they take loan, and more loan. (Forget federal funding. ).

We too dey like copy other countries. Yes, USA Has state police, and also USA has a diversifed economy with everyone..almost everyone...paying taxes. Not like Nigeria where most of us do not pay tax. Even the one we pay, can only cover 20% of our income. We are not funding our National police force well enough...we spend less than one tenth what New York CITY (Not the state ) spends to police 200 million people. It's a miracle we have not crashed into anarchy by now. Yet we expect the NPF to perform like NYPD. Na magic thinking be that.

If I suggest we should do things like pay tax, remove subsides to find more money, and so forth, people will abuse me. Yet people are here calling for state police that their state cannot fund. Some will even call for regions to come back so that we can have regional police...it's like people do not know why we have states, and no, it is not because of Gowon. State issues started in the first republic...that is why we ended up with Midwestern region...and we would have even gotten middle belt region if not for the 66 coup.

LIke now, Zamfara state is poor, broke and has a massive kidnapping problem and bandit issue. It needs a state police that is well armed, and has things like drones, aeroplanes, tactical gear, good arms, and specialist commando style police. How is it going to be funded? From the state's brokeass funds. Same for kaduna. Lagos needs a proper urban force...HECK, Lagos needs a police force like the NYPD , with funding of 10 billion dollars or more per annum...otherwise it would be ineffective. Borno, we know. Even Anambra and Enugu need a well funded force...with esn. I haven't mentioned fulani herdsmen issues...you need something like a well armed police force AND a well armed specialist SPESTNAZ (google it) type force. Otherwise, wahala go start.

I tell you, unless we are ready to make some tough sacrfices, instead of expecting oil money to cover everything....we can't have state police. God knows, I wish it was otherwise. We never even adequately fund our own police force self...with wretched housing on top.

Are we all ready to pay half our income, including people in villages, and poor city dwellers...in tax, to ensure that we get a well functioning state police. And please, that thing called security vote....e no fit fund am.

Funding is not a problem. Simply reduce the 45% allocation going to FG and give more money to states. Case closed.

No, better that states raise.the money via taxes and investment and more taxes.

Plus reducing federal government 45 percent is going to leave a lot of ministries unable to function.. millions of Nigerians rely on such ministries working

The money has to come from the states.

I wont be surprised if he becomes proponent of state police when he retires from the police, they are mostly like that.
President Tinubu was once a proponent of the retention of fuel subsidy when he was an opposition but now that he's the president he suddenly sees the need to do away with it.

Well, surprise! suprise! Mr. Egbetokun, Nigerians take every info coming from you lots with 'a grain of salt'. It is surprising you guys dont get the memo, nobody trust y'all...there's a huge disconnect between the Government and the Governed.

So it's only the presidency that is mature enough to call the shots. Continueeeee. I see this as colonialism.

Well, it is not for you to decide, we Nigerians will decide when the times comes.

What exactly is the good thing that has come from APC name one

You want a president who has ultimate power to control police, so that only people from a region would control police?

So that people who refused to go to school controlling police would affect my state bases on their incompetence?

A governor has limited power,

In fact you can still have state Police, controlled by the federal police commission while everyone serve in their state funded by the state government

What is the difference between what you suggested to what I suggested? Is it not limiting the state and fg from controlling the police like in the USA?
APC has liberalized and opened the polity, expanded government.more Nigerians have benefited from APC than in any other govt.apc has almost destroyed Boko Haram, carried out more infrastructural projects than any civilian govt.apc introduced a new electoral system, decentralized and reduced the exclusive list, encouraged massive local content

In a way I agree with him, our state governments have not matured enough and hence cannot find and manage a police system. We need to change laws like the land use act in such a way that it brings prosperity to individual, then the state can tax those individuals. Our state and local governments are weak.

It is better the president alone uses them to witch hunt than for governors to do same.it will be too much for the citizenry to take.eveb the governors have some form of control over the police esp in elections but once they fail in securing their states, they blame it on lack of state policing...

In any case, what we need is community policing or the type of state police that exists in America where each town, settlement or city operates it's own police answerable to the town council led by a mayor and then the state have its own police and the federal have FBI.i think the east has something similar where each town esp anambra has its vigilante service that is answerable to each town union led by the king and the PG.the governor will have little or no control over them except in anambra vigilante service or bakassi boys.i think Nigeria should adopt that method

So what is the difference between what you described and state police?
Re: Nigeria, not yet ripe For State Police - IGP Egbetokun by Charly68: 3:03pm On Apr 22
it wont be ripe in thy sight as long as you are the IG..OUR problem in this country is insincerity and lack of objectivity.. everyone seems to be subjective in opinion..

State police will create more avenue for state governor to misbehave, the same way they mess up state electorial commission, tho it will create more employment opportunity but it won't curb the challenges we are facing, my opinion.

I believe this is same excuse the IG is giving the he failed to enumerate. I will call it Horseshit...create modalities, limits of state Government power, consequences for breaches for the rules it was first established like political witchhunt and all... Look if we want to get it right, we would.

I am not surprised with his response, because it will look like competition against police Force. but, he goofed big time. State police would help to reduce crime and criminality to the bearest minimum level. Those that would be recruited are locals of the state that knows the criminals in each State.

The state police being advocated here in Nigeria is where the state will have one single police for that state being controlled by the governor.itvis better each settlement get theirs to suit their own peculiarities

Good points. But I'll argue that the Federal must thin down at all levels. There is a lot of redundancy in Abuja. The legislators need to grow some balls and clamp down that bloody deep state and give more to the state governments.

Nigerians tend to be more patriotic to their states than to the country. If we do the right thing, this will translate to better efficiency at state levels, and we won't need many of those high maintenance federal agencies anymore.

Yet the present day Nigerian police is a flop. Same extortionists, bribe-takers, instrument of state terror and involved in extra-judicial killings.
And yet they want the leaders of okuama community to help fish out people that killed those soldiers? so what the hell is community police if not to help fight crime from the grassRoots

They are scared of letting go the legacy system bequeathed on them by the former colonialist. The Nigeria security system is a relic left by the former colonial masters to serve their interest only.

The only difference then and now is that the elite has taken over the legacy system and is scared of letting go because it serves their interest just fine. Lol

Then they make these silly excuses why they can't let it go to Nigerians, their supporters swallows it hook line and sinker and propagate same. It is brutal out here.

I think your previous comment gets at a more fundamental issue, which is that Nigeria has too many "feeding-bottle" states which would have no business existing if they had to rely on their own internally raised revenue for even half their expenditures. Providing security is the core function of government at any level, and if a governing body cannot raise the funds to fulfill this primary mandate, of what use is it?

Nigeria's "federalism" is a mostly phony and empty exercise, which functions mostly to funnel oil revenues to "states" whose primary purpose is to dole out welfare under the pretence of public sector "jobs", while allowing various tribal elites the chance to gorge themselves on the fruits of stealing FG funds handed to them in the name of their "kinsmen". This ridiculous state of affairs will persist as long as there is "free" oil money to dish out from the center, and as long as most Nigerians believe they are owed an expansive state without needing to pay for it through taxes - even if this big state can't perform a function as basic as keeping law and order.
