Nigeria is not ripe for state policing because if they do governors will turn it to their puppets else kidnapping and human trafficking and brutality will be worse and well organised

Racoon:
Yet the present day Nigerian police being a flop is the the one bastardizing the system. Same extortionists, bribe-takers, instrument of state terror and involved in extra-judicial killings.

The second Niger bridge which your people benefit from heavily, loko oweto bridge,keffi-makurd- akwanga road,abj-kad, lag-ibadan road and rail,bodo-bonny road...
Thousands benefited from the traders money and market money schemes, from the covid 19 loan, nirsal loan, anchors borrowers scheme...
Under apc,we started massive rice production.the closing of borders has encouraged thousands of businesses, strengthened agriculture, minimum wage is now 33k and will soon increase any moment.the student loan scheme has been debuted to assist indigent students.local manufacturers and businessmen like innoson,Allen onyema, pro Force said fg is their greatest customer and supporter.see how APC govt encouraged dangote refinery and now bua refinery.
There is no benefit of the second niger bridge to igbos... That's a feel good project with no impact zero impact

While State Police is the right thing to do, let's not kid ourselves - it's gonna be abused. I think policing should be a primary responsibility of the Local Government Councils, with personnel sourced from the locality only. Democracy would be a necessity to make it work properly. I think.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Ok,the fg will dismantle the two bridges then since the eminent leaders that have been agitating for that bridge since 199) don't know the economic importance

Lamp dismantle the bridge, economic power of Onitsha is not tied to the bridge na

The bridge has zero economic benefits zero it's just a feel good project

Dismantle it we would buy ferry and ferry people and cars across... We are igbos na what's there

Tinubu cannot solve all the problems of Nigeria in 10 months, it's not possible. If the IG supports State Police,it means that he has accepted that the current Police system is not capable to secure Nigerians.

This is a careless talk just the way obi talks.are you aware that the Lagos Cali road is PPP and will mainly be funded by HITECH? The fg counterpart funding will be spread within our budget for 8 years while the 200 bil naira grant is cash readily available?

We are not ripe for state police.

Ultimately, the problem is funding for me. All my other objections, I have dismissed them, even the tribalism and religion one. If state police is going to be tribalistic, they will end up losing investors. Bad news. SO, state police is going to work.

But funding is a big problem. A BIG PROBLEM. States that most cannot pay the current mininum wage, talkless new wage...are now going to fund state police. Okay. Either state starts charging everyone tax...which I know Nigerians don't like, or they take loan, and more loan. (Forget federal funding. ).

We too dey like copy other countries. Yes, USA Has state police, and also USA has a diversifed economy with everyone..almost everyone...paying taxes. Not like Nigeria where most of us do not pay tax. Even the one we pay, can only cover 20% of our income. We are not funding our National police force well enough...we spend less than one tenth what New York CITY (Not the state ) spends to police 200 million people. It's a miracle we have not crashed into anarchy by now. Yet we expect the NPF to perform like NYPD. Na magic thinking be that.

If I suggest we should do things like pay tax, remove subsides to find more money, and so forth, people will abuse me. Yet people are here calling for state police that their state cannot fund. Some will even call for regions to come back so that we can have regional police...it's like people do not know why we have states, and no, it is not because of Gowon. State issues started in the first republic...that is why we ended up with Midwestern region...and we would have even gotten middle belt region if not for the 66 coup.

LIke now, Zamfara state is poor, broke and has a massive kidnapping problem and bandit issue. It needs a state police that is well armed, and has things like drones, aeroplanes, tactical gear, good arms, and specialist commando style police. How is it going to be funded? From the state's brokeass funds. Same for kaduna. Lagos needs a proper urban force...HECK, Lagos needs a police force like the NYPD , with funding of 10 billion dollars or more per annum...otherwise it would be ineffective. Borno, we know. Even Anambra and Enugu need a well funded force...with esn. I haven't mentioned fulani herdsmen issues...you need something like a well armed police force AND a well armed specialist SPESTNAZ (google it) type force. Otherwise, wahala go start.

I tell you, unless we are ready to make some tough sacrfices, instead of expecting oil money to cover everything....we can't have state police. God knows, I wish it was otherwise. We never even adequately fund our own police force self...with wretched housing on top.

Are we all ready to pay half our income, including people in villages, and poor city dwellers...in tax, to ensure that we get a well functioning state police. And please, that thing called security vote....e no fit fund am.

👍👍👍💯

Oga,human development and Infrastructure go hand in hand.theres no rule that says one can't be more than the other.the govt right from 1960 has been dolling out money to businesses,to what end? All the govt needs to do is to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive by providing security, infrastructure, enacting friendly policies, discouraging importationetc.these financial interventions are done on ad hoc basis and are to be repaid sir.

To what end? That's what grew your GDP to $565 billion

You stopped for 8 years it falls to $252 billion

Infrastructure that's needed are basic essential infrastructure, health, education, the rest should be built when it's needed not when it's wanted

And most importantly when the people can afford them

Train need people to break even and get well maintained, trains need ticket of $5 to 10 dollars to achieve at... Building a train when your GDP per capita is foolishness

Oga road is a basic infrastructure.how will goods be easily transported if there are no good roads? You mean you are not aware that transport cost affects prices of goods? How will people move about easily in bad roads? Are you aware that rail facilitates quicker movement of goods(heavier goods that vehicles can carry)? Have you realized that countries with stable economies and decent GDP have a good transport system including rail?
We can agree that buhari somewhat mismanaged the economy but tinubu is remedying the situation

How are the imported goods getting to the buyers

Have any businessman told you road is his top 10 problem?

How can you know the issue of businessman when there is no businessman in his cabinet

Oga,does it not occur to you that if there are good roads from the ports to destination points, goods will be cheaper? Does it not occur to you that if trains are ferrying goods from apapa to Onitsha, prices will go down? How many times did importers complain of the gridlock and bad roads around apapa and surroundings,Benin ore road? Have you forgotten that goods in Lagos are cheaper and when it gets to ss,it becomes costlier because of transport cost and are you not aware that if the roads are smooth, transporters will reduce their fares? Can't you fathom that food roads in the north is a principal reason why goods are cheaper there?
Tinubu himself is a real businessman not a Chinese infatuated trader like your principal.are you aware dapo abiodun and badaru abubakar are top businessmen and notable members of the chamber of commerce? A lot of the politicians you see are top businessmen before venturing into politics.tinubu has been friends with men like elumelu, bua cement, chagoury, indimi, dantata for ages.tinubu was mentored by Abiola who was Nigeria richest at that time.pandora no reach

It is good you agreed that good roads influences cost meaning having good roads is a good thing.it is part of aides to trade.when a govt provides a good platform for businesses to thrive like tinubu is doing, the economy will prosper even if govt doesn't intervene financially.

The state police being advocated here in Nigeria is where the state will have one single police for that state being controlled by the governor.itvis better each settlement get theirs to suit their own peculiarities

Then it is important for the context to be clearly stated so we don't run into more problems than we already have.
