Justinlean02:I am looking at getting something as a temporary solution that can power 2 laptops and 1 standing fan plus charge 1 phone and can run at least 20 to 24 hours in a day. What do you think of the below solutions? Are they good? Never used the brands before. Which will meet my requirements? Please help. Greenscientist: Used Canadian mono panel 200w - 42k 6mm cable(4mm is fine tho) 9 yards - 24k Pwm controller - 10k Inverter 500w - 25k Car Battery 49k Total - 150k This is the second car battery I'm using.First one lasted a year an half. It's better to purchase a solar battery instead if you can afford it. 3 Likes |

Donald7610: I'm not disputing that 7A will not charge a 100ah battery, the crust of the matter is that it will take days to achieve a 14.4v bulk charge and the battery may never get to float especially on a pwm charger. A battery requires a current 10 - 20% of it's rated Ampere hours to be fully charged and on a pwm with it's inefficiency, you can't use it while charging simultaneously. |

uvie66: Sorry for replying late. Work calls!! If you are sourcing the components yourself without middle men, you might just be able to set up something worthwhile with 600k. I always advise you start off with an 80A to 120A mppt solar charge controller. If you ever need to scale up your battery bank or increase the numbers of your panels, the charge controller will not be a limiting factor. The inverter will most definitely depend on the load you want to power. The rule of thumb is to add 1000w to the largest single load in your home. E. G. If your pressing iron is 1200w, then you are better off with a 2.5kva inverter since you won't want to switch other gadgets off while ironing. I hope I have done justice to your enquiry? |

eacoder: You are absolutely right. However, their plan is to use one 250W solar panel which I found worrisome. 4 panels in parallel will be just fine like you suggested. Thanks 1 Like |

amicdan: Thanks for the picture on the power requirement specifications for various battery connection. Must admit I'm ignorant of the workings of the pwm save for the theory behind it. I am however curious that a 12v can carry as much as 780W on this PWM charger. Hope these Chinese guys won't end up burning down someone's property? Like I alluded in an earlier post, it's the inefficiency of the pwm that stops must home going up in flames. Very grateful for sharing. |

GerogeI: I give it to you sir. Never knew the 60A PWM can carry such power on a 12v battery until someone posted its specs for me. However, lts still difficult simultaneously drawing power from the battery and having it charged using the PWM system unlike with an mppt that can generate a charging current as high as 59A for a similar 60A charger. The inefficiency of a pwm is responsible for most disgruntled solar energy users in Nigeria. Thanks for your valid contribution. 1 Like |

Re: I Have 350k, Can I Install A Single Solar Panel For My Appliances? by matify83: 4:40pm On Apr 22 |
micxwell: A 100Ah battery should be your basic minimum. Even if you intend using it mostly during the day, it still doesn't negate the fact that the battery must be fully charged each day after use. I will advocate you get a 30A mppt charger but scalability will be difficult beyond a certain threshold in future.

diamond68: You are confusing the post here. Firstly, your system is grid charged and not solely charged using solar power. Secondly,150KW solar panel = 1500W panel as a single panel does not exist as I know it. Thirdly, let's agree that you meant 150W solar panel. This will have maximum generated current of 8A as Isc (short circuit current) . Your 200Ah battery requires a charging current of at least 10% of its rating, i.e 20A to be charged effectively and efficiently. If not for your grid charging, your battery would have been long dead from undercharging. We don't play TRICKS here 1 Like |

matify83: The benefits of MPPT is not debatable, however cost has to balance budget, for a funding strapped enthusiast. Rather than going for a small MPPT charge controller, build up you solar panels with PMW, when sufficient, buy a high capacity 5 kW MPPT or Hybrid |

fashrola: I bought it unbranded as a sample. But its manufactured by Fouyan Electronic, you will see many adverts with third party OEM branding. Here is a link https://x.alibaba.com/AwIpTb?ck=pdp Caveat: This system will only bypass battery to give you maximum solar output only when the sun is high and intense. If the weather is gloomy or low cast, as if its about to rain, it will turn off and start beeping alarm for battery. I use it with a changeover ßwitch |

Vicky2k: Every thing depends on how you configur it, bearing two limits in mind. 1 - The minimum voltage for the 5kw version is 120volts. Maximum is 500volts. If you do not have enough panels to get 120volt, the controller will not even power on. Each 300w panel can give you at least 30v, so you need about 4 before this inverter will power up. It has a 2kw version with less voltage requirements Also 500volt maximum means you can put panels in series and parallel, but your real upper limit is the 80Amps maximum current. As for night use. It takes 48 volts. So one single battery cannot work on the 5kw version. The 2 kW models uses 24 volts. Its better to buy 4 units of 50ah or 100 AH batteries than a single 220AH. To keep costs low, you can use 4 car batteries, for light and phones, but if you add fan and laptop the car batteries will not last long. You can use discarded car batteries as long as they can maintain 12v. Knowledge Transfer Let me also tell you how to resolve badly sulphates batteries. This mean the battery is still internally not corroded, but has sulphur deposits. Go to pharmacy, by epson salt. Mix with rain water and put small quantities in each battery cell. Get an inverter welding machine, connect positive to battery positive and negative to battery negative. Pump the battery with 50 A current for 4 mins, allow it to cool for 5mins. Repeat, and gradually be increasing the current till you get to 80Amp. You can also use a battery charger, but most will not give more than 20A current. After 5 to 10 cycles your battery should be as good as new if the internal parts are not corroded and falling apart. Note doing this longer than 3 to 4 mins will either burnout your inverter welding machine or cause over heating and possible explosion of your battery. So stick to the timing. It works for deep cycle batteries too. |

Please what load does this carry? Very cool for a start Topze: |
Re: I Have 350k, Can I Install A Single Solar Panel For My Appliances? by Topze(m): 5:17pm On Apr 27 |
psucc:The inverter is rated 500w, but you should know most investers have an efficiency rate between 70 - 90 percent.. So the highest load I have connect to it is my blender rated 350w(only mostly during the day or at full charge) I'm guessing your question is about what devices I connect to the system. It's mainly my laptop 50 w Rechargeable fan 25w Phone and other small devices around 20w I use for about 5 hours( although I don't usually leave my laptop connected once it's full) So with a 500w inverter, you can plug in any device as it doesn't exceed 350w. For higher loads, purchase a higher rated inverter 1kv or more. But u should know more loads will consume more power so you have to invest in batteries and ultimately more solar panels. |
