One of the traits a POS attendance must exhibit is patience. Gra Gra to attend to 5 customers at once will always lead to story that touches

Most of them are easily scammed just because of ordinary paper that they won't buy just to cut cost. If they always print receipt, the amount will always shoe and the operator will be able to confirm before handing out cash

It seems this is the new scam in town now... They almost scammed a POS agent closer to my house yesterday.... As the lady told us... She said they are 3 in number on the bike... The two at the back came down to meet the pos agent while the bike man was sitting on the bike... She said the guy wanted to withdraw 51000k including the 1k charges.. the pos agent press 5he 51k on the terminal while she handed the terminal to the guy to press his pin for 5he transaction to be finalized.... This guy just removed one of the four zeros the lady typed on the pos to make it 5100.... He then press the pin and the transaction was successful and writing on the screen.... Most of the machines like opay and monie point doesnt display the amount after successful transaction.... It will only write successful on the screen.... The lady just went straight to the transaction on his own opay app to check and that's when she found out it was 5100 and not 51000.... Immediately those guys knew what was going on... They couldn't wait to collect 5he card and the said cash.... They ran with the bike man
thats an old trick!

POS prints receipts,so how would this scam have been possible?
Also some terminals even have a voice note telling you how much has entered and gone out of your account, immediately a transaction is made.So again, how would this scam have been possible?

Most of them don't print receipts anymore so as to reduce their overheads.

They will only print in case of Dispense Error so the customer can go with it to the bank to lodge a complain.

Most of these POS Attendants don't even load that thing with paper roll. They just rely on that screen message alone.

POS attendants should always endeavor to be alert to what customers are doing when the Pos machine is given to them to enter their pin, inputting card pin shouldn't take more than 5 seconds, anything above this 5 seconds should raise suspicion and attendants should make sure transactions are verified before payments. Most of these scams are perpetuated when attendants are distracted and these distractions are mostly contrived by the scammers

The POS machine belongs to the attendant. I doubt if she has the experience to go to that extent.

AT THE POINT OF TELLING A CUSTOMER TO INPUT HIS/HER PIN IN A POS MACHINE, THE CUSTOMER CANNOT ACCESS THE AMOUNT TO BE WITHDRAWN
MOST TIMES IT IS THE OPERATORS THAT DOESN'T KNOW HOW MANY ZEROS TO ADD, WHEN THE MONEY IS IN TENS OF THOUSANDS.
SOME TIMES YOU SEE THEM TYPE 50100 FOR A 51K TRANSACTION.

I've experienced something like this before but i pay the woman back and her trust till date and i will betray that trust. It happened three month ago, i went to the woman to buy what i will at night that worth 3k, so i used atm card to pay and it showed transaction approved but i notice is that i did not recieve debit alert but i though it was due to network and i went after two weeks i made withdrawal at another pos i was to suprised that 3k is still there, i was now trying to think who sent me money then i remembered the transcations at the woman shop and i went and explained to her and pay the money, till now the woman anytime i want to buy something she would say if i dont i should pay later,i earned her trust till now

Let me tell you what happened.

It has happened to someone I know.
Since that day, he doesn't let a customer go if he hasn't checked the account statement of the POS.

It's network issue

Always confirm that the payment has entered the POS before releasing cash.

She wasn't duped, it was a network error.

I'm only sad that the customer did not come back to return the money, or tell the POS attendant that he wasn't debited.

You can disarm the printer from printing, not everyone want receipt. So printing would most times be a waste of paper

I had experience three cases like that, happened to people I know

One was a POS guy and got duped of 20k
The other is a lady who sent her life saving of 120k to a guy he met online from Lagos to send her clothing materials which she can resell in her state.
The third one happened to someone like a mother to me. A tricycle rider made away with her goods worth over 250k meant for her son's wife. The woman left something at the place she bought goods and told the rider to wait for her so that she can quickly go pick up her stuff, on getting back, the rider is no where to be found. . .

All these scammers will one day be doomed. . .

It seems the woman doesn't understand her machine, the story no go well
What's there not to understand. Someone came to make a cash withdrawal, it was successful based on the information on the screen. But there's no trace of that N20,000 in the POS transaction history. That means the transaction was not successful. The only information concerning that particular card is "limit already exceeded". So, how is that possible? According to the woman, she has never had this kind of experience before. The essence of this post is for us to be careful especially for businesses that make use POS for their transactions.

Most of them don’t bother to print receipts. As for me, I don’t even wait to collect receipt, cos I don’t need it
Re: She Was Duped Of N20,000 by Chisave: 1:57pm On Apr 24
It is a new format of scam. How they do it is that they while call a very popular amount like 5100, 10200, 5000, 10000 for you. When you give them to enter their pin, they will cancel the transaction, go to your transaction history and check to find the same amount you have done b4 and quickly print receipts.

They have done it for me twice but didn't succeed because I already know about it coulped with the fact my machine doesn't print receipts automatically. It pops up a congratulations message. If you ever move away from that page, the something is fishy about you.

To a large extent, I agree with you. What about the part the customer bought boxers worth N3000 from the woman? I know it sounds somehow asking this question. But for me, i see it as indirectly mocking her knowing fully well you've 'duped' her.

Palmpay does not say successful on successful transactions on the screen it just says e receipts or print receipt

This morning I went to a POS attendant to make a withdrawal and in the process she narrated to me how she was duped of N20,000.

According to her, a young man ( probably early 20s or less) approached her to make a withdrawal of N20,000. After inserting his ATM card into the POS machine, she returned the machine for him to insert his PIN. The transaction was successful with an inscription "withdrawal approved" written on the POS screen. At this point, there was nothing suspicious about the transaction. She counted the money and gave the young man.

How did she find out?

Well, when the young man left, another customer came to make a withdrawal using First Bank ATM, she discovered that there was no network. If that's the case, according to her, how then did the first person succed (the first person equally came with First bank ATM) when there's no network at all.

The above scenario prompted her to check her transaction history. Unfortunately, there was no trace of initial transaction (N20,000). Instead what she saw on the history was a message that the first person has exceeded his limit. Which means the transaction wasn't actually successful but the young man manipulated the machine to look so. At this point, the young man has gone to God knows where. May be to try his luck on another ignorant attendant.

According to woman, she has never had this kind of experience. There's no trace of withdrawal but the transaction was successful from the indication on the POS screen.

The guy even bought boxers worth N3000 from the attendant using the same money.

Here comes my question?
How was he able to maneuver or manipulate the POS machine for the " withdrawal approved" message to come up? Mehn, one really need to be careful especially in this difficult moment.

Good Question
You see this POS Attendant many of them lack sense, if you go to bank for any transaction, bank reserve a copy of your transaction, not even the copy, they collect the original copy and give you the duplicate, incase of any future mishap, but this GenZ POS don’t even have paper on their machine because they want to cheat nature, on the point of printing that receipt the POS agent would have sense the error if she printed that transaction, if show successful that would have been her stand against the Service Provider of that machine, and they will pay her the money because she have proof, but now no prove, advise her to lick her wound in peace

If the machine is Nomba she will be credited in the next 24hour

There are few POS attendants that have had this issue.
The transfer will be successful but won't reflect in the POS.
The man innocently purchased the boxers thinking the transfer was successful.
What do people do with money?
Is it not to buy stuffs?

Not all Nigerians will honestly return money that's not supposed to be theirs.
He would have come back to explain to the girl that he wasn't debited.

Guess the POS attendant didn't know that you have to check your wallet first before releasing cash.
It wasn't a dupe case but Network error, some call it network glitch.
