1. Quote the duration on your Form I 20 my friend . That Form I-20 is even important than your F1 visa (if granted) because you can keep going as an international student in the USA with valid Form I 20 but with an expired student visa.

2. How do you mean that you don't want to spend more than 5 years on the program ? Are you part of the senate

of the school or staff professors ? If your present admission is for PhD you can even spend 10 years (God forbid for you) . PhD programs has the highest student drop-outs of all degree categories (Bsc, Msc,Phd) in academics.

3. Even if your I 20 says 10 years, you should be happy and follow the date because majority of you will want to stay behind after study and that I 20 will keep you going after the expiration of your visa. ** However, you can graduate before the date quoted on your Form I 20 or Admision letter . This should not even be your worry. Focus on how to secure your visa.

1. You do not need to renew your F1 visa again if you dont have the intention to leave the USA . Stop looking at the expiration date on your visa because Its irrelevant and no sworn officer is gonna arrest you. Your F1-visa has no relevance to your status inside the USA. Its just an authorization to travel to the USA and request to enter the USA at a port of entry. After you have been admitted to the USA as an international student , then your visa serves no purpose.

2. Like all other students in the USA, when admitted in F-1 status, you are granted “Duration of Status. (check it out inside your expired visa D/S) ” This means that your immigration status does not expire, providing you maintain your F-1 status by attending classes and keeping up with your school works.

3. If you have graduated and just seeking this opinion, then that means that you are a playful -student because you must have apply for OPT (if your degree qualify) between 90 days b4 your graduation and 60 days after your graduation (you still have plenty of time). OPT is another work authorization that will keep you going legally in America even with your expired visa.

4. HURRY to your DSO office and table your mind to him or her . Forget about the renewal of your visa and focus in maintaining your student status by extending I 20, transfering , opt , etc.

** Truft University, though a private institution in the USA is still very well respected , and therefore should keep to their policies (40% grant off tuition payment for your sister).

*** And Yes, the $300 has to be paid first in order for the admissions office to take your sister serious and start the processing of her Form I-20. That's the norm.

1. Either they give your sister GTA or not , you must send your dad's financial capability evidence (bank statement) to Truft before they can issue her Form I 20.

2. Yes , she must go to her F1 visa interview with your dad's financial evidence (perhaps the original copy of the one she sent to Truft). Her tuition deficit will reflect in her Form I 20 and the CO (consular officer) will ask her how she want to offset it upon resumption.

3. Don't rush. Focus on securing her Form I 20 and the payment of SEVIS fee as well as the MRV (Visa fee payment @ GTB) first. Once those ones are settled , I bet she will secure a date for her interview prior to her August resumption. But you have to make everything snappy !

4. The requirements for her to get a normal or emergency F1 visa appointment date is to ; Secure Form I 20, Pay MRV and SEVIS fee.

1. You have answered your questions already . Go ahead , it's still working . Book the initial October date and request for the emergency appointment afterward (s).

2. Remember to have your MRV payment receipt, bio-data page of your Form -120 and your SEVIS payment receipt handy before requesting for the emergency appointment.

If you can, hold on for while and keep checking before you do your first scheduling (that is picking the earliest date available). They usually release close dates as time go on but if you can't hold a little, then book the earliest date you can find and reschedule later (Remember you can only reschedule once and you are left with emergency appointment).

There is a way to go about rescheduling without getting banned or warned that you have visited the page often. This has been explained here several times and it's working. Once you have booked the earliest appointment date and want to check for earlier dates that you wish to reschedule to. Click on "Cancel Appointment" but don't click on final yes to cancel your appointment oh, clicking on it will show you an earlier date. If that is the date you want, then log out or close your browser, log back in immediately to reschedule to that favourable date. (Remember, you can only reschedule once).

Using the "Cancel Appointment" tab is one way to circumvent the warning or ban if you click the reschedule appointment often.

I got 4 outright rejection which I believe was due to my background, a lot of those schools want some kind of foundation CS courses which are missing in my transcripts. I tried to write a good SOP and leverage on my work experience but I think CS is probably too competitive.
The 5th school rejected me but referred me for admission in Informatjon science.

Schools I got rejections from:
NYU- computer science
Missouri S and T
Michigan Tech
Uni of Virginia

Then I got admission from 3 schools:
Northeastern uni- no funding
Stevens institute of tech (SIT) - 17k funding
Uni of New Haven- 20% funding (amount is to like 8k)
I am thinking of going ahead with SIT but the total COA is 65k ( 44k tuition and 17k living expenses, another 3k+ insurance ). I am supposed to have make the admission deposit and request for I-20 but I would like to ask if I have a good chance of getting my visa approved with a deficit of about 38k.
Do you guys think I should reapply again next year and hope for better funding ( I am not so sure much would change in my profile cos I’ll still be applying for CS). I need honest advice.

You can get MS Information Systems.

Are you tired of petroleum engineering? I would advice you get a masters in same and take some comp classes.


MS information Systems don’t usually have much funding.

It will be almost impossible to get an MS in Computer science even if your bachelors was in Computer science.

What branch of computer science interest you? You can get into a Masters in Machine Learning, Information systems, Systems Engineering, Data analytics or Industrial Engineering more easily than MSCS.



No one cal say if your visa will be approved or not. You can try if you are sure you can genuinely afford the fees of the school you choose.
