Questions have arisen regarding the qualifications of Ola Olukoyede to hold the position of Chairman at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to the stipulated requirements in the establishment of the EFCC, the Chairman must be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent, and possess not less than 15 years cognate experience. Investigations have revealed that Olukoyede, born on October 14, 1969, did not meet these prerequisites before his appointment. Despite this, he assumed the role of Executive Chairman of the EFCC, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 12, 2023.
Before his tenure as EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede worked as a lawyer at a firm owned by former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo. He also served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016–2018) and Secretary to the Commission (2018–2023). His nomination as Secretary to the EFCC in 2018 was made by the then-President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
During the announcement of Olukoyede's appointment, it was stated that he possessed 22 years of regulatory compliance consulting, fraud management, and business intelligence experience. However, questions persist regarding whether this experience aligns with the specific requirements outlined for the EFCC Chairman.
The requirements as contained in part 1 section 2 of the establishment reads, ""The Commission shall consist of the following members
(a) a chairman, who shall - (i) be the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the Commission. (ii) be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent; and (iii) Possess not less than 15 years cognate experience."
Given these revelations, concerns have been raised about Olukoyede's suitability for the role, with some arguing that he lacks the necessary experience and competency required for such a critical position in combating economic and financial crimes. Oloribu They have pay money 4 Likes |

deedo93: This article to be honest is so disgusting. Why is it now that the EFCC chair is proving a "big man" that these questions are being asked. Corruption trying to fight back. Just to keep you honest, I am going to make it clear that these questions were first raised months ago - along with similar ones concerning Ribadu's appointment as the NSA. Copied in below was Bwala's reaction at the time and Falana's response. According to Bwala, the Act provides that the person to be appointed as EFCC Chairman must, amongst other things, have been “a serving or retired member of any security or law enforcement agency, have 15 years cognate experience of law enforcement, and must not be below the rank of assistant commissioner of police”.
Bwala noted that “Olukayode is a private legal practitioner and has never worked or belonged to any security or law enforcement agency as a member.”
But a legal expert and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has dismissed the negative claims being held about Olukoyede’s qualifications.
Falana explained that there was no issue with the appointment, noting that Olukoyede was eminently qualified to head the EFCC.
According to the legal expert, his only worry was on whether the appointment followed the nation’s law on the principle of federal character.
Falana spoke over the week while featuring on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.
He said, “No, there’s no issue there. The only issue that has been raised, which, for me, has to be considered by the government, is that we have in this country the federal character commission act. And also, by virtue of section 14 of the constitution, appointments must reflect federal character.
“So, if you are going to have the EFCC and ICPC, the heads can not come from the same zone. If there are two positions in this country in public service, one must go to the North, and one must come to the South. Some hungry lawyers, civil society groups and hatchet men have been protesting and defending the former governor of Kogi State since Olukoyede's outburst. I strongly advise Olukoyede to investigate the bank accounts of the arrowheads and put a lien on them. A lot of nonsense has gone on for far too long and must be arrested.
Instead of looking to undermine the EFCC boss, let the former Kogi governor report himself and clear himself. By these antics, he is spoling his name and may not amount to anything politically again.
80 billion naira allegedly mismanaged is not small money.
For the first time since Nuhu Ribadu, we see an energized EFCC. During the last administration, EFCC was almost invisible. So guess what: Olukoyede is more than qualified and those of us who would not support corruption even if carried out by our own father are standing with Olukoyede.
OP, try and do the same. How would you feel when you or your family members are in need of healthcare and someone who is a custodian of your money lies to you that the money is not available, only for him to deposit school fees 15 years in advance for his children from your money and you lose a loved one who could not assess basic medicare?

The guy is more than qualified to work as an EFcc chairman ....he has a relevant qualifications and experience ..the immediate past chairman was just less than 10.years in the service and he was the chairman of EFcc without no hiccups ....and this is more qualified than Abdulrasheed Bawa , the Immediate past chairman of EFCC.... however, the reservation I have for this man is fighting corruption with a god-fearing mind....no!!! If you want to really fight corruption in Nigeria , you must be mean and wicked because those who have siphoned money doesn't have conscience and.must be treated as a criminal if convicted ....this man is too gentleman for this EFCC work....Naija is full of thefts in different sizes.....and this is why the result getting from this man Adminstration is below the expectations...you can be fighting corruption in Nigeria without breaking some laws and daring some powers that be....you can't get satisfactory result if you keep on following due process ...No!
Nuhu Ribadu , when he was the EFCc chairman, got the results because he came all out for the big corruption government officers....nobody can collect money from a robber with this kind of treatment Olukayode is giving to some.suspected criminals in the systems....this style of doing EFCC busimess will not all EFcc to recover more money for the government....pastor doesn't fit for this kind of post ..because pastor will be mindful of different aspects of scriptures and his ability not to go against them.....we need harden and repented criminals like them to fish those people out and jail them......Nuhu Ribadu wasn't harden criminal .mbut.he really use all in his disposal to be on top of his job....pastor mentality can not allow anybody to be on top of his job as the EfCc Chairman 1 Like |

The man is over qualified for the position. Even you the OP is qualified to hold the position. Remember the qualification to be the president of Nigeria is just to attempt Secondary school exam according to our constitution.
What I believe we should be looking at is, does he have the capacity to do the job? If you don't know, that job is a very risky job because you are going to be fighting those who destroyed Nigeria and who are also your "BOSS". Those who took that office before now are usually disgraced out of office. Whoever is holding that office needs the support of all Nigerians to succeed because corruption is everywhere in the country.
Note that we have 36 states in Nigeria and we have a lot of stronger Bellos in these states. Infact, we have lots of Bellos in the 2 houses and as ministers and head of various agencies and parastals and even other criminals. Nigeria is indeed in a pathetic state and needs lots of help. Please be the help, I will. 1 Like 1 Share |
