Why Is Pineapple Not Recommended For Pregnant Women? by RevenuesBoost(f): 6:36pm On Apr 28
My husband has been the one enjoying all the pineapples, harvested from our garden.

Why can't I have pineapples? 😭😭

Dear Nairalanders,

Is it true that pineapples are not recommended for pregnant women?

What will happen if a pregnant woman eats just a little pineapple to quench her yearning?

it's not that eating pineapple is totally unsafe when pregnant but to be on the safe side, it's recommended not to eat it because you might be tempted to eat more than usual which can increase the amount of acid present in your system which can affect the baby... pineapple has some percentage of acid in them...

you can eat fruit like banana but consume more vegetables and avoid junks and sodas totally... light exercise too helps greatly... I wish you safe delivery...

Thanks ❣️

Please I want to know
In what way will it affect the baby?

Will it cause a miscarriage, that is, kill the baby?

Or will it affect the formation of the baby?

I saw a few on Google and some even encourage pregnant women to consume pineapples.

I was like, trust google at your own risk o.

That's why I took the question to Nairaland, more experience women should be here to help.

Or I could get the answer I seek here.

it might not affect the baby, but it might affect you... stuffs like acid reflux are common when pregnant... fruits or drinks that are acidic might make it worse... and if stuffs like that can affect you, it might affect the child as well, and you wouldn't want something bad to happen to the child before you can confirm if it's all myth, lies or truth.. it's better to be safe than sorry...

a woman I'm familiar with was nursing a child... unknown to her, she was not supposed to take a particular drug as the child was still breastfeeding... the drug affected the formation of the child's teeth..

btw, an experienced professional doctor will shine more light on the answer you seek...

It is said to cause contractions especially the local queens pineapple you have in your pix ( very yummy)

Some claim it's only when you eat the core at the center that cause it.

Some eat it nothing happens, some eat and kasala burst.
So most eat it closer to their due date.

Point is its better to be safe than sorry lots of pregnant women avoid it totally.

Pregnant women are advised to stay away from this fruit. Pineapples have a high bromelain content which is an enzyme that softens the cervix and can also trigger uterine contractions. It can induce early labour which is not good for both the mother and the baby. Also, consuming pineapples in large quantities can lead to dehydration and diarrhea.

It depends on your body system. My wife took lots pineapple, watermelon and oranges during her first pregnancy.

This is the answer u seek below.
It causes contraction and induce labour.

Pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that may cause uterine contractions in large amounts. While it's generally safe to eat moderate amounts of pineapple during pregnancy, consuming excessive amounts, particularly in early pregnancy, could potentially increase the risk of miscarriage. It's best to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

A lady shared her experience with pineapple on this thread.
It was a very sad experience that I wouldn't want to experience it.

I even peeled pineapple for him this morning.
God helped me not to taste it o😂

Omo! I heard another one today.

My Mum's Pregnant dog stretched it's body.
My mum had to try to make it stop stretching.
I asked my mum why she stopped it from stretching?
She said it will displace the child and may cause a miscarriage.

She also advised me not to stretch my body as well, as it has same effect.

I'm still thinking how true this is 🤔

I feel nurses aren't really aware of the fact that most pregnant women don't even need this pineapple at all in their systems.
Even a little of it.

A lady I know so well just took a little as instructed but still lost her two months pregnancy.

Women are built separately, so their body systems will surely react to it separately.

Any fruit that can open up your cervix, needs to be feared.

Accordingly to my mother in-law, "avoid anything called pineapple"
