Biracial: What Could Be The Reason For Fair Complexion Among The Igbos? by chnnmfl(m): 1:05pm On Apr 29, 2024 |
I read somewhere that during British Colonialism in Nigeria, the Brits prefers sleeping with Igbo and calabar women due to them being neater than others, that that's the reason why there are many fair skinned people among Igbos. I wanted to believe it but then I remembered these Igbo surnames: 1. Okorocha: White skinned young man. 2. Nwokeocha: White skinned man. 3. Okocha: Fair complexioned male child. These names predates colonialism in igboland. The names have been in existence before the coming of Britain. These igbo men below have both igbo parents and grandparents. I delerately left out the women, I don't want to mistakely include bleached skins. 1. Anambra Musician, Phyno 2. Imo State Actor, Mike Godson 3. Abia State House Of Rep Member, Alex Ikwechegh What do think about it? 4 Likes

Colonialism had very little effect on Igboland. I say this because, Igbos don't bare English names as surnames unless agreed by the family in a way to honor the dead. Unlike in the north where people bare Mohammed, Usman or in the south were you will find surnames like president, Briggs, Goodman etc It's an established fact that there were migrations from Egypt, through Algeria and Morocco straight down to the Western part of Africa (Jeremiah 2 vs 6) and spread all over. When those migrants came, they met indigenous oil Palm people there in South East Nigeria. Most of these migrants were not dark in complexion. 12 Likes |

Only God knows what happens to Igbo these days. A very proud people, comfortable with their heritage are now willing to exchange it for pittance. In Nigeria alone, Fulani and Hausa have fairer skin people than anywhere. So are the Itsetkiri and people around the coast. Yet, some Igbo celebrate light skinned or mixed race than anyone in Nigeria. Please chill, you are embarrassing yourselves inside and outside Africa. 23 Likes 6 Shares |

There are some fair skinned Ibos. But the majority are dark skinned like Oby Ezekwesili. The OP is mentally enslaved thinking lighter skin means better! What a shame. 15 Likes 5 Shares |

![]() We here see it as ridiculous, self disservice and low-brainer, trying to compare ourselves with people who have lost their melanin pigmentation. It is from inferiority complex, and narcissistic behavior to want to see less pigmented people as superior and then try to attach to them by force. Narcissistic behavior of wanting to claim, show and prove that your are superior (and more good looking) to others. And that you belong to a special place and better people in oder to raise your deflated ego and improve your lack of self-confidence and self-esteem; while look down on others who you are just your equals or who in many ways are better than you. CHARACTERISTIC OF: Narcissistic Personality Disorder Symptoms may vary from person to person. The most common symptoms include: 1. Being overly boastful, exaggerating one’s own achievements 2. Pretending to be superior to others 3. Lack of empathy for others 4. Looking down on others as inferior 5. Monopolising conversations 6. Impatient, angry, unhappy, depressed or has mood swings when criticized 7. Easily disappointed when expected importance is not given 8. Always craves for “the best” in everything 9. Has a very fragile self-esteem They: 10. Have an unreasonably high sense of self-importance and require constant, excessive admiration. 11. Feel that they deserve privileges and special treatment. 12. Expect to be recognized as superior even without achievements. 13. Make achievements and talents seem bigger than they are. 14. Be preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate. 15. Believe they are superior to others and can only spend time with or be understood by equally special people. 16. Be critical of and look down on people they feel are not important. 17. Expect special favors and expect other people to do what they want without questioning them. 18. Take advantage of others to get what they want. 19. Have an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others. 20. Be envious of others and believe others envy them. 21. Behave in an arrogant way, brag a lot and come across as conceited. 22. Insist on having the best of everything — for instance, the best car or office. At the same time, people with narcissistic personality disorder have trouble handling anything they view as criticism. They can: 1. Become impatient or angry when they don't receive special recognition or treatment. 2. Have major problems interacting with others and easily feel slighted. 3. React with rage or contempt and try to belittle other people to make themselves appear superior. 4. Have difficulty managing their emotions and behavior. 5. Experience major problems dealing with stress and adapting to change. 6. Withdraw from or avoid situations in which they might fail. 7. Feel depressed and moody because they fall short of perfection. 8. Have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, humiliation and fear of being exposed as a failure. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/narcissistic-personality-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20366662 2 Likes 1 Share |

I think it’s because of a high rate of albinism inland. I myself am very light skinned but my eyes are black but my cousins have brownish eyes. I do know some Igbo people with almost orange eyes tho that look like albinos, although this is not common. However, it’s more common than Yoruba, because so many times I’ve mistakened some yorubas for south Sudanese people here abroad. |

Bardo:And in my own case, I have been mistaken for Ibo too many times cos I am a light skinned Yoruba man ![]() The last being a few months ago in London at a train station to visit some friends in Manchester, the guy approached me and asked if I was Ndigbo. He was dark skinned and looked like South Sudanese himself. He was a student going to Leeds to start uni and was searching for a travel companion. He thought we were boarding the same train. 5 Likes |
