Thing about assignments is, they are not the means by which the lecturer tortures you after class, they are a way for you to learn how to do research, write it up and present it in written or in powerpoint form. That's what I figured out in university....and it all leads up to your final year dissertation or thesis, which you must write up fully at the end of the day

And the researching don't end after graduation. Get a job, and then they tell you to do the same thing over and over again.
