That tells you the goods manufactured is falling because of cost of production and falling purchasing power. Microfinance bank dey give loans at 36% interest rate. How much profit will you make to pay 36%

Finally.., you all are beginning to have your senses!

Solution:

Reintroduce the subsidy, this will drive economic activities of SME. SMEs are the backbone of MAJOR players!

Consumers confidence will be brought back by low prices of consumer goods. Just very simple, yet so
Complicated for this funny government!

very apt and on point sir.

“But since the Nigerian economy is headed by profiteers, scammers, politicians and others with looted funds, all these don't affect what the government sees at the end of the day,so business and life goes on as usual from the government side”

seborrhic:
This is the one CBN top ranking official that has made sense and probably knows his onions.
Increased fuel price and full floating of the ₦ alone without commiserate increased wages across board, public, private led to one of the most dreaded economic nightmares, for any country that is serious:contraction of the economy because people can't afford to pay for some goods and services, even if available.
What does that do:reduces the buying of goods that manufacturers and producers depend on,reduces the income that artisan, bricklayer, small shop owner, medium shop owner, non foods businesses get.
Even transport reduces because some go on only essential days, then even fuel consumption reduces because car owners don't get to buy as much;etc, all these lead to contraction of the economy.
In an economy run property, even goverment income should reduce because there is less profit or income generated by companies to pay taxes.
But since the Nigerian economy is headed by profiteers, scammers, politicians and others with looted funds, all these don't affect what the government sees at the end of the day,so business and life goes on as usual from the government side

shortgun:
Even the CBN that formulates economic policies appears to be helpless in the present administration.
Nigeria's best economy was when a certain detribalized president assembled the best economic team which happened to be people from a region of the country but because of the pride of our sophisticated morons, they wouldn't look elsewhere to salvage the nation. They rather allow the nation to fall inside well instead of hiring people from the rejected region to save the nation. That's how selfish they are.

Look at this comparison
Cadoso vs Prof. CC Soludo
Wale Edun vs NOI the comparison is ridiculous

Who is Tinubu's chief economic adviser?
He should resign.
Why? But Tinubu himself is a first class Chicago accountant graduate. He should be the chief of his economic team. Remember the popular saying: City boy will handle economy while Shettima will handle security lolzzzz

mrvitalis:
Oh really?

You budget 75 billion naira less than $50 million dollars for SMEs

Then budget 800 billion for a 46km road

Then wonder why economy is shrinking?

At a time when forex is squeezing businesses it's not brainer to provide credit facilities

But na... Let's build roads with borrowed money, that would increase our recurrent expenditure

If Tinubu does 4 years and our GDP is above $100 billion I would be shocked
Exactly. Someone even said spending so much on road at this current time is misplaced priority. He did not say the road is bad, but the timing. But see our people comming after the messanger instead of the message.
Is it at a time your business is struggling, your stock has been depleted, you then take loan or little cash you have to go build a brand new office complex saying it will open up more business, or rather you chill on new office building, reinvest the loan or cash stocking up the business, improving sales through eg adverts etc, then when business picks, accounts turn from red to green, business stabilize, you then from profits build the new office, buy official vehicles from gains and savings. All debt free.
This is the problem of managers of naija. They have no business acumen, all politicians or contractors. We Nigerians also are the problem, we want to see immediate road, bridges etc, not looking at the economics of it. It then places pressure on leaders. The end effect is debt, badly managed economy.

seborrhic:
They are talking of a shrinking economy and one clown is talking of increasing electricity,to further shrink an already distressed economy!
When you increase tariffs, companies reduce their working hours to reduce cost, they also have to reduce staff or even close some sections of the company.
Even the night time kiosk or small business outfit have to cut their hours, instead of eg,staying till 12 or 1am,they decide to close by 10 or 11pm,reducing their income.
So just by increased electricity tariff alone, there would be some contraction in the economy, added to that already caused by fuel and ₦ floating.
Assuming Nigeria even had a reliable data base and had been tracking economic activity professionally, they would have known that the economy started contracting since diesel prices went to the roof in previous regimes.
But in an economy run on faulty foundations, where a politician can steal government funds and build an estate or companies chiefly for laundering purposes or bragging rights,or where a scammer or kidnapper can hit a goldmine and construct mansions or business mall, all these things don't matter
What a sensible goverment would have done now is freeze all increases so people can have more disposable income to buy essentials and 1 or 2 not so essential but driver of the economy.
Even this idea that increased electricity tariff will improve the sector, run by political businessmen,is a fallacy
Make electricity 1k/kWh under these same companies now running it and there would be no change!
you're too intelligent not to be my friend. I buy all you said hook, line and sinker. I've said it before, the major issue was the price of petrol, diesel and now electricity. These 3 things are the foundation of any economy. The present govt thinks they can grow more tax by mere taxing to the roof, ironically it's a direct measure to kill the economy completely.

Once the disposable income of the people reduces then there's doom for such economy, its effect will go round.
