Y2k, as we called it then, came in 1999, Nigeria transitioned from a military government to a civilian government. One thing I clearly remembered was VISION 2020 promise.

We were promised constant electricity by 2020, a working refinery, we were promised a better road network, a strong economy, a better health care system, in fact, I so muched belived in this vision.

Here we are in 2024. The vision has changed. What happened to Vision 2020? What changed?

Buhari and Tinubu happened.

Long dead and buried and the grave vandalised by politicians...!!

I remember hearing then food for all by the year 2000! If only they knew how good they had it then…of course at that time ebin pawa wasn’t a fixture in our national lexicon!

This is one area I respect America so much. They can play politics with everything, but the country has the same vision and focus.

For instance, Osama Bin Laden bombed America and went into hiding. George Bush declared him wanted and deployed US soldiers in Afghanistan in search of him. Bush couldn't capture him until his tenure elapsed.

Barack Obama, from another party, continued the search. Obama later apprehended Osama 10 years after he bombed America and wasted him in a military operation he personally authorised and monitored from the US.

Obama's tenure ended and Donald Trump, a man from a different party, took over from Obama. He realised that the mission of the US Army in Afghanistan has been accomplished. Trump concluded all the arrangements to pull them out, but lost his reelection bid. Joe Biden, a man from another party, came in as the POTUS and withdrew US soldiers from Afghanistan.

We need to learn from this visionary country of over 300 million people....
