femi4:Price control will only provide little relief. There is actually no quick-fix solution. Govt needs to seriously sit up & start addressing all the various factors contributing to high inflation. |

GanagiBitrus:No When there is stability in price, addressing min wage won't be everyday issue. That's how its done in a saner clime Inflation didn't start with this regime |

cjudy:You are too foolish to mention. Your portion is your portion backed by your uncommon stupidity. You have enjoyed enough attention from me, now back to your cursed hole. Always remember to keep your worthless opinions to yourself. I have to forgive myself for giving you such leverage, a stupid, uncultured rubbish rat. You can do more digging maybe you will find more rubbish to munch on but I am done with you. |

femi4:If Price Control is the solution, why has Govt not embarked on it. Look, in a Free Economy like ours, prices of Goods & Services are largely determined by forces or Demand & Supply. |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by ForValour: 12:58pm On May 04 |
VaginaAcademic:I appreciate the efforts of civil servants and especially kowning their earnings is rather fixed which may not reflect existing economic reality. The 5 year review period is too far apart and the interval for periodic upgrade should be a year apart. However, with the current state of thing, asking state governments and private companies to pay workers 615k a month is not feasible. |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by GanagiBitrus: 1:07pm On May 04 |
Mandesz: I only stated the consequences of a new minimum wage, which can't be faulted. No quick fix solution; the only way forward is for Govt to sit up & seriously start addressing all the factors contributing to high inflation. |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by PARADIZEPRIEST: 1:12pm On May 04 |
AJERO IS SICK,IT IS VALUE OF MONEY THAT MATTERS FIRST NOT THE QUANTITY. MAKING IT 615K IS MADNESS,BECAUSE IT WILL INVARIABLE RAISE INFLATION TO PANDAMONIUS LEVEL. NLC SHOULD CALL FOR REASONAL MINIMUM WAGE OF N70K,THEN DEMAND FEDERAL GOVT TO OPEN FOOD BANKS ACROSS NIGERIA TO SELL FOOD AT SUBSIDIZED RATE TO NIGERIANS...... |

GanagiBitrus: It's still the same thing either it goes to the people or to the politicians, which do you prefer, because of too much money and nothing to do with it while the politicians loot the money, with a proper economic plan it would not cause inflation, the government should invest massively in mechanised farming, create more jobs opportunities ensure our refineries are back on stream, I don't trust this Dangote refinery, with good economic plans 150k will be fair enough. |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by gigfx: 1:36pm On May 04 |
Make govt too come out with their own breakdown, you can see how NLC put figures to their own wage. Nigeria govt don't use the same market we the citizens are using and they are subsidizing all aspects of their own lives. Many of these civil servants go as far as sleeping in the office because of transportation fare. |

In4matic: Who's going to pay it? Is it the same people struggling to pay 30k? If they can claim lack of funds to pay 30k on time, what gives you the confidence that they'll ever pay over 1000% increase, NO BE JUJU BE THAT? |

We are not really ready for advancement in this nation we are still in this scrunchy economy and the house are paying themselves #28million of which the initial was #12million and we are all here clamoring and shouting that there will be inflation if they increase the common work's minimum wages to #615,000, but inflation has not happened when the house increased their own pedestal, there's no amount you can pay these workers that could be enough in this current situation we find ourself, if we look at the money scooped at Kogi state is a enough to pay appreciable workers in the state with the new minimum wage don't let us be deceiving ourselves cant the masses also enjoy the dividend of democracy and year in year out trillions are stolen here and there without proper sanctions so who is deceiving who. They can pay this money and they can also make things right in Nigeria only if we are truthful to ourselves and the fear of God is with individual. |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by codedguy1(m): 6:00pm On May 04 |
abbey621: No they will struggle to pay. But when they Govs and senators want to discuss an issue they will travel abroad to go discuss it, buy 160m jeep each for their comfort coupled with the constituency and security votes that they siphon each month, bribe each other with dollars during election, increase electricity tariffs at their discretion and then devalue the naira for whatever reason and the corruption that follows they don't see any reason to struggle for all that but to pay higher wages they will struggle and people like you will only see when the struggling masses are trying to do something to survive. The 615k might be unrealistic but it's a good place to start. |

Okay. So the thing is, you are talking about the international maket(abroad) now. But one can still buy things comfortably in the local market(Nigeria). But ur main issue is with the international market buying and purchasing. Am i flowing with you? Nolevel666: |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by Anonimoux: 9:36pm On May 04 |
As if this would solve the problem. Nigerians don't want to accept that our currency is weak and the Purchasing Power Parity PPP is low and the only way to make it stronger is to become a productive nation. Peter Obi losses at the polls is still paining me till now. |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by codedguy1(m): 11:27pm On May 04 |
abbey621: What is your point. Minimum wage negotiation is on the table and regardless of sentiments Labour should try to get the best out of people you yourself claim are thieves. Is it the same thieves that you also want to reduce inflation that you think will want to do anything to disrupt their stealing channel. Na you dey play. |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by abbey621(m): 12:15am On May 05 |
codedguy1: Do you own a company? Have you ever had to pay people's wages and salaries? Do you know that wages and salaries should never be more than a certain percentage of what a company makes? My point is simple, a 1000% increase is INSANITY, labor can say or do whatever they want, it is up to a responsible government to tell them f*ck off! |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by codedguy1(m): 8:35am On May 05 |
abbey621: A 28M to 35M salary for senators and HOR is not insanity. Buying jeeps worth 160M for themselves is not insanity Removing subsidy without a plan and increase in electricity tariffs is not insanity. And then floating the naira for whatever reason is not insanity. Coupled with other extravagant irrelevant nonsense they do that we don't know What Yahaya Bello is being chased about for is probably what most Govs are doing in different ways yet the likes of you would not shout to high heavens that it's insanity. Where was this energy when all this were done. To now do something that is also INSANITY for the civil servant is now insanity. It is the activities of these elite, especially those in govt that has brought us where we are today. So if labour wants to take their share, allow them and stop making noise about it being insanity. They most likely wouldn't even get the 615k they are asking for. The tragedy is that these guys don't have a clue as to how to get us out o f this mess and are will to plunder even more while the masses continue to suffer. To think that you think this govt is responsible is pitiable. |
Re: Nigerian Workers Release Breakdown Of Proposed ₦615,000 Minimum Wage by DeOTR: 6:20pm On May 05 |
codedguy1:It's a misplaced priority. I'd rather they bench minimum wage as a percentage of the average salary of our legislators, even if it's beyond the current proposal. Nobody will take them seriously and they'll be at the weaker end of the bargain until they start doing that |
