Lexusgs430: I just read more about the scheme and found out it does not matter whether your asylum application is successful or not, once you are gone, you are gone. No coming back. The difference is if your application is successful, you become a legal immigrant in Rwanda, if it is not successful, you either go to your home country or become an illegal immigrant in Rwanda. |

Treadway: I lived in China for a year, given same conditions if I had to choose between living in China and the West, I'll pick china. Go to central Beijing CBD, it's almost like you are in central London very multi-cultural - bit exaggerated them too plenty for china so they population drown out population of foreigners. Night life is when you will see some sort of balance Westerners like the nightlife while the Chinese are mostly conservative. The UAE and KSA have lots of restrictions like China because of their religion but Westerners troop in by the day. And if you go to a some of their expar forums, a lot of them prefer to live in these places than back home. Some poster talked about child labour, the big Companies in the west are guilty because they outsource their 'child labour' to china and Africa and turn a blind eye and claim a moral high ground word for this hypocrisy. where are your iPhones and co manufatured, lithium for your EVs from child miners in central Africa. If it was a problem for the west, they would boycott these places and manufacture their goods in the west and not outsource manufacturing like they outsource their wars. No place is utopia, you create yours. a man just wants to be king in his own house, tend his field, attend his feasts, make love, drink and merry. What works for one does not necessarily work for some other. 9 Likes |

Gerrard59: Mostly this is due to the effect the western dominated media has on our psyche. A very good example is Chinese loans- in home and diasporean fora, it's interesting how Nigerian appear very worried when it comes up but very few bother about the details. Our Chinese loan of $4.8 B borrowerd at circa 3% has been responsible for most of our infrastructure over the last decade (rail, airport, powerplants e.t.c) while our Eurobond loans amounting to $15B, which is mainly looted back to the West and borrowed from mostly western agencies at rates of 8-12 % (yes 8-12%) are not talked about. The annoying part is that while we took funds at those rates, European nations were borrowing at less than 1%. Yet, we hear nothing about this. Even this year we've took a loan of almost 2B at over 12 % to 'defend the naira' How can Nigeria take loans at rates of >6x that of Germany? Yet we don't hear western nations (or even local media) warning us about eurobonds. Even yesterday, someone brought it up at work and its always bemusing how the simple question 'why do you care?' reveals so much hypocrisy. 4 Likes 1 Share

Gerrard59: Succinctly put. Legal Immigration opportunities the West is based on economic and political need. Like I keep saying, we did not come here on a 'diversity visa'. Whatever legal route we came by was made open because someone convinced the government they'd benefit more by having that pathway open than closed. Main issue is that many come in, think they've been done an eternal favour and are not driven to reach for higher heights which they have the potential for. As the demographic decline continues, the next century will be dominated by a scramble for human resources same way the last few were dominated by a rush for natural resources. The west has found a way of doing this while convincing immigrant folks their worth lies in immigration. A good example has been India and China. Their GDP was close until 1995. China found a way to retain its best heads (even those educated abroad) and build wealth while India exported it's many good heads. Its the reason why I'm worried about Nigeria. We seem to be exporting our best heads (yes, I'm guilty) and sugarcoating achievements by Nigerians abroad which mean little to the home nation 4 Likes

jedisco:this graph is a mouth-stopper๐ฏ๐๐คฃ๐ฏ๐ This beautiful graph๐๐๐ is a picturesque definition of SUCCESS, and the great part about this is they have only just started. Two countries with almost same population numbers, and look at how one has taken off. The right people and leadership is KEY! When will/how can Nigeria have the right people? The majority are runts, some willfully, some by circumstance. So sad. 2 Likes |

Someone just forwarded these statistics, and I find it quite interesting that Indians own more homes than Brits. I have a feeling that the figures for Africans have probably gone up a notch, especially with the influx of new African migrants.ย https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/housing/owning-and-renting/home-ownership/latest/ 1 Like

kwakudtraveller: Interesting. However, Indians don't own more homes than Brits. What you see here are not absolute figures. The 68% Brits in absolute figures might be 10x the absolute figures of the 74% Indians. 3 Likes |

Please Help! I'm seeking advice on securing an apprenticeship in the UK. Having spent three years here, I'm now eligible for such roles and have been actively applying. However, I've faced rejections, possibly due to using my WASSCE as an equivalent for the required GCSE and A levels. I'd appreciate guidance from someone who has successfully secured an apprenticeship role on how to improve my chances. Thank you! |

jedisco: The West is doing it to persuade citizens in the developing world to loathe China and to an extent the Chinese. I don't want Africans to do the same. We stand a great chance in benefitting from China than the West. In fact, everyone everywhere does. It is because of Chinese business interests the Americans are now planning an Americas' Policy in Congress for the US to trade more with Latin American countries. Before now, why did they not trade with folks in their backyard? Why is it that when China comes to trade, the West believes it is also the best time to trade? Look at the purported railway in Angola backed by the US, it was solely because the Chinese were expanding the previous railway they did in the '70s in Tanzania. If the Chinese didn't move there, the US wouldn't. The same applies to Southeast Asia where American companies are announcing investments solely because Chinese businesses have invested significantly in the region. Expectedly, Southeast Asians view Chinese more positively than Americans. People think it is by preaching kini kon hUmAn rItEs that would put food on someone's table or provide living standards. Or it is by forcing men to fvck their fellow men or confuse young children about which gender they belong to. I have demystified the loan aspect here: https://www.nairaland.com/7801886/multipolarism-versus-hegemonism-great-power We owe Western nations and institutions more than we do to Chinese organisations. That is an undeniable fact. People can see the result of Chinese loans: railways, airports and roads. The average Nigerian o, not one phonee speaking Nigerian with a fancy degree from a fancy university in the West tucked somewhere in VI, who in his/her past-time parrot American culture wars on TwitterNG while struggling under hot sun in the queue to purchase petrol. 6 Likes |

jedisco: A major reason is that the West is led by an Anglophone United States and both India and Nigeria are part of the Anglophone world. It would be hard to keep educated Nigerians at home or even attract those who have lived there for a long time to return to Nigeria. However, that happened under OBJ, Yar'Adua and GEJ's tenures - many Nigerians in the diaspora returned, took up jobs and started businesses. Then in 2015, they paired with other Nigerians to campaign and vote for Buhari because he promised to phight kwarruption. Another reason the Chinese returned is that it (China) is disproportionately Han Chinese - home of the Chinese people. The ties are priceless. People feel at home in a place where the government - Han Chinese - represents their interests. So, it is easy to convince them to return home unlike Nigerians. 4 Likes |

ehizario2012: ๐ฏ Despite what some might think looking around their neighbourhood, work or places like this forum, white people are by far the largest ethnic group in the UK (sometimes the silent majority) with 82% - over 48.7 million at the last census in 2021. Asians (not just Indians) make up about 5.5 million (7%) , so as you've said the data might show that a higher proportion of Indian households own their own homes, but in absolute terms, the white Brits are over and beyond the largest home owner group. 5 Likes |
