Nightwolf1:Bro, No need explaining. I picked the elements of your argument to show you the hypocrisy that: 1. All roads don't have to be completed before new one starts. 2. Nigeria funded an expensive project when DSR was over 100%, why not now when her DSR is under 65%. 3. That an alternative road exist is not enough argument to stop new one, citing 2nd Niger bridge. Anything short, we are being hypocritical. Lastly, Dave Umahi took his time to explain that this is the cheapest road the govt is handling at the moment wrt cost per km for its size. Nobody has contested that! Yes it is 700km and overall cost is more. Nigeria doesn't have to complete it in 1 year, you know about project & finance scheduling. Common! We need constructive opposition to APC, you guys just dey make them shine! 2 Likes |

Nightwolf1: The only thing worse than an illiterate is someone who can read but does not understand what he read. It is not the government constructing the Lagos Calabar road it is a private company. It is not government money. It is private money. They are willing to construct that road because that road is profitable for them. The other roads are not so they will not deploy their money there. Once again only $1b out of the $15b for Lagos Calabar is govt money, the remaining &14b is private money.. If you cancel the Lagos Calabar road you lose $14b worth of road construction that will not go to existing roads. Don’t forget that $14b creates other jobs, employs workers, supports many other industries like cement, quarry steel rods etc. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Buccalcavity2: There is no hypocrisy here. If you are a tad considerate, you should know that lives are being lost on those dilapidated roads. A sane govt ought to know what Nigerians are yearning for at the moment before embarking on a humongous project that won't finish under 20yrs. And if I may ask, what special purpose is associated with the coastal highway the East West road can not offer? 1 Like 1 Share |

naptu2: I have mixed feelings about the project, as a concept I love the project and it has always been on the drawing board but my fear is make corruption no go stall the project o! Again why is the project being costed in dollars anyway..............what part of the project is going to be funded with dollars....aside buying of heavy machines and plants........every material input can be sourced locally, granite chippings, rods, and cement......the sand and soil needed is also available locally! The road will disrupt a lot of local ecological enclaves.....i fear for the local forest elephants in Andoni, the local hippo populations in Bonny area, what about those funny monkeys in cross river state.....it is well sha.........without corruption the road will be a game changer......minus the ever present fulani marauders! 1 Like |

naptu2: Good advice. They should boycott it. Na so people criticise the blue rail and red line and made fun of it when it even when it finally launched. There are many good infrastructural ideas on paper for decades that many politicians stylishly avoided claiming they don't have sufficient fund to prosecute or that it is not priority. At the end the masses sees nothing but hear every time say billions don go 3 Likes 1 Share |

rhanoden: Hmmmm. I believe it is better to build the coastal road than for the money to be stolen, No right thinking adult will deny the fact that the successful completion of the project will open up more towns and villages to development. The benefits outweigh the costs if it will be completed swiftly. The major issue with the opposition is that they do not believe such project should be our priority now. That is the prerogative of the Bola Tinubu administration, the bulk stops at his table, the rest of us can recommend to him but the final decision is his to take. David Umahi responded to those who complained that the existing roads are in bad shapes, why not fix those, and he said all roads are being attended to. Nigeria cannot develop without extensive road network, it is one of the major catalyst to growth and productivity. It is a well known fact that about 50% of farm produce in Nigeria do not make it to the market due to bad roads, imagine what impacts opening up both Lagos-Calabar and Lagos-Sokoto can do to our farmers and the return on investment. Tinubu is not responsible for the bad roads he inherited and even if all the roads were to be in good shape, they still would not be enough. Nigeria population are growing at a rapid rate and we need more roads, hospitals, schools, houses to maintain the economy. I only hope Tinubu can look in the direction of massive mechanized agricultural revolution in Nigeria. If I were to be Tinubu, I will stop listening to IMF, I will go to China, import millions of tractors and agro-processing equipments that can add values to our agronomy. I will demand 100,000youths from each local govt to form Cooperative to either join the farming team or processing team. Hunger is at the core of our economic challenges and if we take agricultural production seriously, we will see tge dollar come down seriously. All these so called foreign investors shouldn't be our priority, they will come naturally when they see us making genuine progress. But no meaningful development will be possible without security, good road infrastructure network and stable electricity. We need to criticize responsibly, If we destroy Nigeria because we want to see the downfall of Tinubu so we can justify why those who voted for him are "Stupid".. That is similar to a man who is ready to burn down a whole building just to kill a rat. I personally do not like many of Tinubu's policies, those policies do not have human face and may cause him his second time bid except something drastically positive changes or he will rig himself in using the incumbency power. One year has been wasted inflicting pain on Nigerians. Our lowest hanging fruits are in agriculture and it's value chain. Nigeria made her best progress till date when she was a powerhouse in agricultural production. Despite all the technological advancement, the world still needs food especially organic food. BRAZIL, MALAYSIA, INDIA, INDONESIA ETC, still make far more from single product than all the money we have ever made from yhis noisy crude oil. For instance Malaysia made more from palm oil than we made from Crude oil. Indonesia did over $50billion dollars from coconut charcoal alone to China. Google is your friend. Coconut charcoal is a byproduct of coconut wich all these coastal states can do right from badagry to calabar. Same with banana, Colombia and many of these Latin American countries depend on the export of fruits like banana and so on to Europe and North America. The coastal roads and more road network will really help develop our agricultural revolution. All these will not happen overnight, as much as I do not like Tinubu's policies, I believe it is in the interest of all Nigerians that he should succeed, his failure will be felt more by Nigerians than his family members. Even those abroad talking and cursing Nigeria, when there is a problem in their host country, they will call on Nigeria for help, I remember the arrowing experiences of Nigerians in Ukraine and Sudan before their evacuation. Tomorrow is pregnant, let us be guided in all we do. 2 Likes |
