Ignoring all of your statements, my question to you is simple - why did the project not go through the bidding process via the BPE as enshrined in the laws; and why was their no Environmental Impact Assement completed before commencing the project?

Or should we not ask these questions because Tinubu wants to build Nigeria?

The same way he built pipelines straight from lagos state govt coffers to Bourdillon?

Why are you guys bitter ? Government is only paying 30% or less-in this project the rest is public, private partnership that’s why they’re tolling it which is reasonable, if FG was the one providing everything then I can listen to some of the criticism.

They're so annoying!

Road that you might not be alive to witness the completion.

Dave Umahi is worse than Tinubu. He's a criminal.

Taking a look a the key points raised in this editorial, it's very clear that this is a conduit to divert resources we don't have into personal pockets.

For years, ASUU was on strike cause of failure of government to pay the annual revitalisation fund of N220 billion that was agreed in 2009 under Jonathan which was partly paid by him. After his exit, our universities are yet to be substantially funded by preceding governments but they're always quick to release funds to be looted.

Our healthcare system is in shambles, many Highway road are death traps in many parts of the country as cited but they chose to abandon them for this white elephant project that's of no economic value and a time the country is in economic crisis led into it by bad decisions of the same government.

So many roads of its kind previously embarked by previous administrations have been abandoned but instead of completing them or repairing those that are bad like the administration of Buhari tried to do(thanks to him), Umahi with his criminal Lord has chosen to prioritise personal interest to the detriment of our resources and our common need.

Umahi is very corrupt as Tinubu.

He did same in Ebonyi, borrowed money to build useless flyovers while workers in the state starved.

The good for nothing airport he built has generated not even a penny into the purse of the state and the money used for it could have been used for other economically viable projects, but nah, the over estimated irrelevant flyovers and airports which were also a conduit were his priorities.

The coastal road as an alternative road will reduce stress on the internal roads thereby making them last longer. New communities will also spring up along the coasts leading to more economic activities and depopulation of already overpopulated internal urban and rural areas. How about travel time reduction? The advantages are endless.

It is so pathetic that you lots lack decernment and refused to use the sense God freely have you. For how long will you guys keep slaving for these evil slave-master leaders? Gosh! Thank God I am a rational human being. Truly sense is not common!!!

God bless you my brother.

Utilise part of that money for production and part for complete overhaul of the existing roads and we are good for the short and medium term. Later you continue work on the longterm - like modern speed trains ahead of this coastal road

Is this not helping him reduce the discussion and anger against the double jeopardy of hiked fuel price from removed subsidy with scarcity and queues?

People are talking about the cost and economic wastage. As a father, you plan your family. You don't leave the children's school fees and feeding to start a new building project when the house you are living in has a leaking roof, and broken doors and windows. You don't tell the wife and children to shut up and don't sleep in the new house whenever you finish it. This is a ridiculous statement.
hello, the government operates not like a family as your illustration suggests, the government operates on budget and plan.because you want to build hospitals does not mean you ignore schools, because you need roads doesn’t mean you ignore housing.government plans can run concurrently according to plan and budget.
Giant projects like this are very expensive but once completed they are investments that span over a very long period, like the third mainland bridge has been constructed since when many users here were not born and generations will still see it if properly maintained.the government left some other projects then to construct the bridge, same thing as the niger bridge too.

So since the road will be tolled and the people who use the road will pay tolls, it is okay for the contract to be awarded in a shaddy manner? What if the total real cost of the project is the $4bn to be contributed by FG and it was simply inflated to $15trn to justify the tolling?

My personal take , I don’t think there’s any project in Nigeria that’s transparent even if it’s an open bid , they’ll still award the contract to who they want .
If you criticize this project you should do so too to all the projects across Nigeria.
Picking which project to criticize will make it bias , develop countries still face things like this ,
EU chairlady Ursa is been accuse of some COVID shady deals , no continent is perfect, let’s say no human is perfect but some are more transparent than the other that’s the difference.
To me as long as you execute the project in a place like Nigeria I’m ok with it , because In Nigeria we’ve leaders who receive money for project ending up doing nothing and still working freely .
By international standard of corrupt practices all past Nigerian leaders should be in jail I don’t know who you support but you did because you seen he’s a lesser evil or preferable but not perfect.

I support the project because Lekki deep seaport , Lekki bridge and 2nd Niger bridge was done through that way and it worked . The benefits outweighs the disadvantages.

Oga. Just shut up, the road will still connect to the costal areas of the SS. So some from Asaba going to Lagos can’t use that road. And beside whose goonna fix the existing bad federal roads? You are the bitter one here.

Shit, shame on you. Nigeria will never move forward with this mentality.

The constant reminder to sycophants, the people deserve accountability.

They are paid hands. They are on monthly salary to do these things.

Know this and know peace.

They are the reason the evil APC has been increasing unemployment so that they can recruit jobless ones to things like this.

The reality is that they are in minority but create hundreds of accounts to make it look like they are many by liking each others comments.

Don’t be fooled.

We outnumber them by 10 to 1.

Our only issue is INEC. And the only solution is to aggressively focus our energy there.

Many of these people who write rubbish are mocked outside of Nigeria. Go check out all of the current wealthy nations. They began by developing infrastructure. Whether the economy is in depression or not, we must put structures, roads, railways, and seaways in place. We keep shouting that food is expensive...while farmers complain about bad roads. Consider how much food, oil, and other large items will be transported by rail across the entire region. And then the road will be preserved.

Many people are just educated illiterates in Nigeria.

I don't like Tinubu, I am not his fan... but during the election, I said it clearly that he would build Nigeria like he built Lagos. However, we will have his boys everywhere. Thuggery will reign... and many other bad things. Nigerians prefer him, and they have him. Shikena. Make dem manage am. But building infrastructure is not out of place.

Nigerians are gluttons. They prefer palliatives. Or have them use magic to put food on their table. They do not see the economic value in constructing this railway and road. They will finish it by the grace of God. Tinubu does not have records of abandoned projects. He is a man who chooses a follower to replace him and keep his projects going. The evidence is still in Lagos. He has many flaws, but I believe we should let this phase pass.

To me, let them keep putting infrastructure in place. We have reaped too many benefits from subsidies. Let us make sacrifices for our children and generations to come. Let us sacrifice for them. Even these politicians are embezzling, and we can do nothing. As long as infrastructure like this exists, we will eventually be able to confront corrupt politicians and control corruption.

Finally, it is beneficial to have opposition. While I condemn those who oppose this project, I still appreciate them. Everything requires checking and balancing.

Let us move Nigeria forward.

They are talking of scale of preference, you are talking about infrastructure. Who is against infrastructure?
Is 'East west road' not a worthy infrastructure?
And many other federal roads scattered round the country.
That project is just a misplaced priority.

This is one of the red flag or sign of this controversial project. No due process on the actual cost, pattern of funding and abuse of government provision in the award of public contracts. No competitive bidding.

This is what you get when criminal minded people are in government. Meanwhile, this construction is alleged to be awarded to Hi-Tech a company owned by the notorious Lebanese- Chaugoury brothers who helped the late Sanni Abacha to laundered Nigerian money.

Meanwhile this same Chaugoury is an a long time political ally of Bola Tinubu. So the well discerning Nigerian can see the connect. Dave Umahi will end up being the fall guy here. Same way he built an economically unprofitable variegated colour Airport in Ebonyi state.

This can only happen in a country where the President is a criminal gang leader. No one supports APC who is not a hardened criminal.
