I'm just hearing this theory (the bolded) for the first time.
Kindly shed more light on it. Who is responsible for the 'drop' in price?

Frangel:

If you sell your UBA on or before 10th of May, you will not qualify to receive dividend. If you sell on 13th or thereafter, you will receive your dividend.

The key date is the Qualification Date (10th May in this instance). You would notice that on 13th, the opening price would be the closing price on 10th less N2.30 (dividend).

The closing price on 10th would be cum-dividend (cum-div) i.e. inclusive of the declared dividend. While the opening price on 13th is ex-dividend (ex-div) i.e. after dividend has been deducted (marked down for dividend).

That's correct. It has to do with the fact that when a company pays a dividend, the company's value decreases by an amount equivalent to the dividend paid. The SEC or CSCS enforces this on the ex-dividend date. In some other countries, this adjustment usually happens naturally through market forces. But u know say naija things na by force nah. angry undecided

Okay, so I want to understand this correctly. If I don't have my shares registered with the stock registrar by the qualification date, I won't receive a dividend? And even if I am registered, but I sell my shares before the ex-dividend date, I also won't get the dividend? undecided

Double wahala for who no dey read agreement o. shocked shocked shocked grin grin grin cheesy

grin grin Abi you wan eat your akara and have it.

The important date for you is the date you bought or sold. Being on the register should be left for the registrars to figure out (normally it's T+3days after transaction). That is why you normally see them announce period register is closed so they update it for purposes of dividend, bonus or any other corporate actions.

With UBA, if you buy tomorrow 10th May, and/or hold your shares till end of tomorrow, you will get dividend. If you sell by 13th, you will still get your dividend. But if you buy on 13th, nothing for you. grin

Has always been the practice. NGX adjusts the price before market opens by 9.30am. Marked-down price.

Reinvesting all your dividends, if you have other means of survival, (the power of compounding interest) works magic for long term investors.

Nigeria Brewery at ₦23 looks ridiculously cheap , the rally will be crazy the very quarter it eventually returns to profitability.

Not a buy recommendation ... I'm not buying and won't be buying any stock till the economy has a solid positive direction.

I feel safe with true yield of Tbills at 26%.

Safety First.

Funny how you were Loco's Number 1 street guy when talking down DANGSUGAR.......but you cease to be Street person on top Champion Brewery matter......since you're not speaking the language they want to hear....... grin

For Brewery Sector, if we're talking about the thing on the table for now, it's NB, Nigerian Breweries..
Anyone interested in the Sector should keep eye on NB.
- Lots of pick-ups ongoing there by the Parent Company possibly....
- The more the price falls from current price (28), the more it will be presenting good bargains......
- Na my opinion be this.....
April 25 post.
- More pickups and cross deals of Nigerian Breweries shares (NB) @N23...
- Closed to N7bn in transactions today alone....
E Ku Market ooo

Yesterday's stop rate was 20.7% which is equivalent to 26.1% true yield. Your bank can run it for you , it's quite easy.

There is a dedicated forum for Tbills , you will get more information there. I don't want to derail this trend.

To all oando hopefuls.

SEC just banned Tinubu from sitting on the board of any company for the next 5 years.
This is subsequent upon the audit report conducted into the finance and operations of the company.
