ganisucks:I'm not sure you read the news Gerhards:The moniker I quoted is a die hard PDP fan, The said embarrassment happened during PDP era.. Back to the content of the news, if you follow the case, you will understand that settling the issue out of court is the best move. The case has been under litigation for more than a decade making the Wells redundant and now that Nigeria needs funds more than ever, out of court settlement is still the best option 1 Like 1 Share |

Two members of the United States Congress are urging the Department of Justice to reopen an investigation into oil giants Shell and Eni over allegations of corruption surrounding a 2011 deal for lucrative Nigerian oil bloc Oil Prospecting License (OPL) 245. Their call comes after Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu controversially restored the oil block’s ownership to the European firms. In a letter dated May 8, 2024 to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Representatives Maxine Waters and Joyce Beatty alleged that Shell and Eni violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) by paying over $1.1 billion in bribes to Nigerian officials, including former PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN, to secure the OPL 245 oil rights.

ganisucks:Pdp or Apc no dey pay me so I'm not interested in trading blames.. But the fact still stands, The mess happened during Jonathan era Tinubu engages in shortcut to clear the mess The US Congress doesn't share Nigeria best interest , If they are after rule of law, they should prosecute shell and Co by themselves.. It doesn't make sense for you to put your business under litigation while your children are starving.. Also, out of court settlement is done everywhere a d not illegal |

Absolute nonsense. Mr. President should simply ignore this attempt by vested interest to disrupt Nigeria’s oil production. If the Congress members have any issues against Shell and Eni, they should take them to court. This case has been tried in Italy with Shell and Eni getting acquitted. Enough of the legal cases surrounding OPL 245. The oil well is just there wasting away over unending legal battles when we need to seriously increase our oil production. Tinubu had done the right thing in the interest of Nigeria. It’s time to stop this nonsense and allow for oil production to resume from that oil well. 2 Likes |

RealLordZeus: The matter has been settled out of court and the settlement bars any lawsuit by Nigeria. So it's done. The US law makers can huff and puff, Nigeria is a sovereign nation. The contents of that oil well are coming into the market sooner rather than later |
