Good morning,

My mom visa interview is coming up next month. When I scheduled the her appoimnent, the passport number provided is now expired and she has renewed her passport.

How can I change the old passport number to the new passport number on the visa appointment page or it doesn't matter if the passport number doesn't match ?

Thanks

Call the embassy.

Hope graduation is not this year?
Just apply for the individual on us embassy website. Then equip the person with an invite. The person should be able to prove he/ she will be back after the grad. It is the home ties that really matter. Then financial capability.

Thank you for your response.
My graduation is this December and I don’t know if it’s late or not to start applying for them. Also, are there sensitive personal documents I have to equip them with other than an invite and probably my i20 and transcripts?

Nope. You don't need to give out any personal document. The major issue here is date. I think appointment date for lagos now is July 2025. There's a 5% chance of getting a date before December.

Hey 🤠

1. If you are talking about University/College graduation then your relative has a very good hope of securing the appointment before your graduation day , and if you guys knows what you are doing the visa is also certain.

2. International students are Big Business for America economy and foreign students are part of ego of USA. By this fact, consular officers understand the needs for your friends and family (especially) to be present or in attendance in such a life-time celebration. A family or friend (s) must be there to rejoice with you .

3. Go to your DSO/Admission counselor/HOD etc office and urge them to write an official invitation letter to your relative . The letter must indicate him or her as a compulsory attendee . The letter should also be emotional in nature.

4. Your relative will use the letter and the copy of the graduation invitation/brochure and copy of your school identification to apply for B2 visa (on emergency appointment).

5. He or she must however proof financial ability beyond doubts as well as stronger ties to Nigeria .

Best Wishes 🙏

Hello guys. I'm thankful for the helpful tips on here. I have a question:

My wife and I live in Nigeria. We both have valid US visas that we obtained some years ago for medical tourism. My wife is pregnant and we would like her mother who does not have a US visa (nor travel experience) to accompany us this time to the US for delivery.

How do you advise we go about this?

Someone suggested we (I and my wife) travel first before scheduling an interview for my MIL to join us.

Hey 🤠

1. Apply for your mother-inlaw while you couples are still in Nigeria.

2. If you Apply (for Mama) within the same year you and your wife landed in the USA it might look like a preconceived plan to the consular.

3. If Mama's visa is denied (I pray not), re-application (perhaps when you guys have landed in America) would be easier as a continuation of your intention to have her with you initially .

4. Give your mother-inlaw the necessary verbal trainings before facing the consular. For example , she can say " I have always been present during the child-births of all my female children and i give them our traditional care all through the 1st 3 weeks of the baby's arrival (USA consulars understands that Africans have traditions).

5. You must have been in contact with a particular hospital , pay all or part of the bills and if possible gotten a medical insurance or having a clear evidence of obtaining one upon landing in USA, with evidence of accomodation for 3 of you .

6. Mother-inlaw should attend interview with most of those documents (email correspondence with hospitals , insurance , receipts etc) listed in 5 above, even if she is not well educated , her DS 160 and those documents should speak for her .

7. You guys should present yourselves as very rich Nigerians (you will be spending millions of naira in $ equivalent) and be honest of what you are going to do (intention to give birth) and display strong ties to return home .

Best Wishes 🙏

You can inform the organizers of the event and let them write embassy for emergency date for you. That is if the organisation is well known like Cato,Heritage Foundation etc, they can write embassy for emergency date for you .

Hey 🤠

** Let me assist and sieve few sands out of @mojisolani 's answer above.

1. The conference organisers only need to write to you a Strong-Letter-of - Invitation (although the letter must be addressed to the USA consulate, Abuja/Lagos Nigeria) with the contact informations of the conference organisers included.

2. The letter must indicate you as a or one of the major speakers and that if you did not secure the B-1 visa to attend the conference it will have a bad reputation effect on their personalities. The letter should also indicate some financial loss if you fail to attend the conference.

3. This letter is sufficient for you to initiate emergency visa appointment ( under Business Emergency) which if successful will give you an appropriate appointment date before August.

4. Don't ask them to write or copy the embassy. The USA embassy will discard the message if its not related to the embassy sub-head subjects. Gone are the days when organization copies USA embassies on behalf of an individual . They have scrapped it.

Embassy will not honour such letter . The best option is for the organizers to send him letter of invitation and state clearly he is one of the major speakers at the event.

Pls guys how can someone get quick date?
Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by christhavemercy(f): 8:57am On May 13
I got my passport stamped last month and I just wanted to share a few tips because I also got great advice from this platform.

1. Dress nice, I don’t mean traditional but like you would in your everyday occupation but just nicer.

2. The passport you used to apply can expire, or be renewed before your appointment date. This was my case. I didn’t inform the embassy, and it wasn’t too much of an issue. I assume because my old passport number is on the new one.

3. The chances of your document being looked at is less than 5%. Read point 4 and point 5.

4. Your answer to their questions matter a lot. Do not take it likely. I see a lot of people saying “them dey give who them wan give”. I overheard a lot of candidates rambling on the day of the interview and not surprisingly they were given the pink paper.
*Take time to comb the internet for likely questions.
*Write your answers down.
*practice it with a friend/family.
*ask yourself: “does that answer make self to an American diplomat?”
*Avoid one word answers
e.g.
Q: what is the purpose of your travel?
A: Visit or Study or Business
Rather do this (for instance)
Q: what is the purpose of your travel?
A: i would be visiting Memphis Tennessee for 7 days for tourism. It has always been an interesting place to me.
A: I received an admission to the university of Texas to study Management and would like to honor offer.
*prepare yourself for further questions on employment gaps, sources of income, travel history(including deportation and denials), your family in the US occupation and status.
*DO NOT GIVE FALSE INFORMATION especially about family in the US and travel history. This will also cause you to ramble further.

5. I have come to the self-opinionated conclusion that the consulate likely does not investigate or review your application before your interview but AFTER!
I maybe wrong but my reason is because my husband who used his old passport with travel history received his mail to collect his passport the following day and mine which was new was delayed for 9 more days for administrative processing. We interviewed together by the way. I am certain that my claims of travel history were being investigated.

6. After being given the white paper on the day of the interview. Your visa application can still be rejected or You can also be asked to provide further documentation.

7. Abuja is a saner environment than Lagos for this interview. If you can afford it please opt for it.

8. Pink or blue paper is not the end of the world. Good luck.

Pls I applied for Us visa in 2022 for i and my family but due to the hassles of getting a close date I got a date in May 2024. While preparing my documents, and preparing for our interview, I received a mail reminding of the interview date but in the mail, they wrote something about updating our profile on the traveldocs(appointment schedule)
Here’s the content of the mail:
Dear Applicant,

You have received this email because you have an upcoming visa appointment at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos or the U.S. Embassy in Abuja. Kindly log into your account at https://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/en to confirm the date and time of your appointment and make plans to attend.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please reschedule or cancel your appointment as soon as possible. Timely cancellation or reschedules helps us manage our resources efficiently and ensure that other applicants can take up the available slots.

Please be informed that your MRV fee may have already expired, in which case you will require a new MRV fee receipt number to book another appointment in the future.

Applicants are advised to verify that the DS-160 confirmation number on the DS-160 confirmation page matches the DS-160 number on their appointment confirmation letter. If these do not match, you will be turned away from the Consulate on your appointment date. All changes to your profile must be made at least 3 working days before your appointment.

To update your new DS-160 confirmation number, follow the steps below:
• Login to your profile at https://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/en
• Select “Update Profile” from the blue tabs on the left
• Edit the “DS-160 Confirmation Number” box and save

Good evening everyone,
I planned to visit my husband in the US by August and my interview is July, I was going through the thread and I saw that someone visiting for pleasure should choose B2 visa category. While applying, I chose B1/B2, is there a consequence for this? Do I have to change my visa category? I need your responses please 🙏🏾

Don't fret too much over this.
Just clarify to the VO its for Visit purposes if asked, otherwise its not that much of an issue.
At the end of the day, the Visa you'd be issued will be B1/B2

If there is no update to be made on any of the DS-160s, just leave everything as is and go for your interview. To update dependents confirmation will mean there has been changes made or to be made right?
The Interview will be based on the Primary Applicant's scheduling. You are to simply confirm your appointment - check and know the scheduling.

Even if you chose B2 the visa you get is B1/B2 so don’t bother over the category. Since I noticed I also started choosing B1/B2 instead of just B2

Is it the same amount for both categories? If it’s the same amount it’ll work. I know of someone who paid B1/B2 instead of F1 the receipt worked because it’s the same amount for both categories. If your case is different then call Gtbank to see what they can do
