Abia Airport Fund: Nobody Can Question My Decision To Reverse Project — Ikpeazu by Metrix147: 8:15am On May 16
The immediate-past governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has finally responded to the allegation of diverting N10bn meant for the construction of an airport in Aba, saying as someone with executive power at that time, no one can question his decision not to go ahead with the project.

While admitting that the sum of N10bn was earmarked for the construction of an airport to boost commercial life in Aba, the former governor in an interview monitored by our correspondent said he realized that roads to the major markets in the city were in a bad state, making interconnection difficult.

"So we decided to suspend the airport project. Today when people talk about the money for the airport and all that, it's as if they are questioning my decision to change my mind and I had right at that time to say I don't want this airport now.

"Because of you land at the airport, where are you going to? You can't go to Ariaria. We had to change the status quo at that time and I am happy that I finished Eziukwu Road from that fund, I finished Faulks road from that fund, Ngwa Road is okay, and Osusu Road is okay.

"So today you can connect Ariaria through Osusu road, to Eziukwu market and connect Eziukwu road to Ngwa market. I succeeded in interconnecting all the markets, courtesy of that fund which we were supposed to construct an airport", he explained.

According to the former governor, if his administration had gone ahead with that project, the sum of N10bn wouldn't have completed it, saying it would have amounted to tying the money as some airports in the country are not viable.

He also dismissed allegations that the fund was diverted to about 32 accounts, insisting that those who received money from the funds were contractors who carried out various projects and they were less than 32.

He also challenged the incumbent government to follow the trail to check if a dime was diverted to an individual's account from the N10bn.

He listed other projects completed from that fund to include, Faulks Road, Eziukwu Road, Ejike Lane, Milverton Avenue, and so many others.

His government like Buhari took governance to a new low level since man created human society.

He couldn't even measure up with early men (homo errectus) in governance.

When a budget is passed by the legislature and signed by a governor, it becomes a law, breaking the law is a crime. A governor has no right to transfer money allocated to a project in a passed budget, to another project, it is a crime embarassed. This governor is an illiterate that doesn't know what he is saying. He would have gone to jail for this statement in countries where things work embarassed

Which road did he do? Is it not Otti that started building roads in ABA? Road to Eziukwu market was in shambles. The one leading to ariaria was not just bad but people were dumping their waste by the road sides. This guy should be prosecuted

No politician does it better in Naija.

Even Alex Otti would still be questioned and criticized (by oppositions) after leaving the office.

And no other monies were taken from the state account for these mentioned roads? Secondly, how much were the contracts for these roads per kilometre? 4 roads for 10bn?

And it's now you are telling the people whom you ruled for eight uninterrupted years what you used their 10 billion naira to do.
God no be man, if not all Nigerian politicians would be hanged at the end of their tenure.

Simple.. he should show us what he did with 10 billion naira in Abia State that didn't get any publication whatsoever. Afterall, he didn't deny that 10 billion naira was shared among "contractors" to execute several projects in the State.
Where are the projects?.

If truly that Okezie Ikpeazu used the 10 billion to finance other projects, there's nothing wrong with it. His administration argued that they were surrounded by Imo and Abia airports, so they dropped the idea of building an airport and channelled the money into other projects.

It baffles me how this same set of people are always the first to cry out of corruption and bad governance in APC when their own regions have been infested with rotten corrupt pdp governors since 1999.

I can vouch with my two balls. If you elect them into the federal position ( presido) the level of corruption will be nominated by the Guinness book of record

If there is a Guiness World Record for bad and poor governance, this former governor would have comfortably won it unopposed. He even seems to take pride in bad leadership, without apology to anyone. He carried irrespónsibility with pride.

He once defended on a National TV, why he was giving N500 to women that deliver in Abia Hospitals.. he said most of them might not have transport fare hence they needed the money.

Shamelessly🤔

Oga reversal where did you reverse the money for the project to? Talking with boldness after stealing from a state you governed, you reversed the money to 32 banks and still talking rubbish.
