It’s Time For A ‘United States Of Africa’. Discuss. by jazzman7711: 7:58pm On May 17 |
It’s time for a UNITED STATES OF AFRICA. A USA 2.0. All this means is that we retain the current 54 nations, but they will simply convert to being states. Alternatively we can have just North Africa as one country and the rest of Africa one country. Or we can split it into 3 or 4 countries ie East Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa and North Africa. There are NUMEROUS benefits of this arrangement. We can have a single African policy on all sorts of issues, from the price we charge for our minerals, to the conditions we set for their exploitation. We can have a single powerful CURRENCY that will not be tied to the dollar or any foreign currency. We can have a single, very powerful African military. Or in the case of a 3 or 4 nation Africa, 3 or 4 powerful militaries that can hold their own against any on Earth. We can mobilise enough resources to do things which appear beyond us today, such as landing on the moon. Something India has done. MOST IMPORTANTLY, INTRA-AFRICAN TRADE will be hugely increased, as all barriers to travel and settlement will be removed. What we need to decide is how the central leadership will be operated. Will it be a democracy like India? Or something more like the One party dictatorship of China? Personally I favour the Chinese system of govt. It’s more effective. President Museveni of Uganda has been discussing UNIFICATION with his fellow presidents in East Africa. They are talking about forming a single East African nation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlaJ0_CvsQE?si=XxSBa5B-fghYl5Iu |

The problem is impatience and greed. Every region will want to be recognised as the head. Every region will complain of marginalisation. 1 Like |

The problem I think will be greed. The average african leader is looking after his belle, not the people he leads. |

general111: A system like that of Chinese will reduce corruption by 90% minimum. We need an African equivalent of the Chinese Communist Party. A party of HARDCORE REFORMISTS with a GRAND VISION for Africa. Once they lead Africa, give this continent 20 years, and it would be unrecognisable. |

DMerciful: You still don't get it, do you? Try to think big. The smaller you are, the less viable you are as an African nation. Foreign powers can threaten you to comply with their economic prescriptions, and deny you finance/impose sanctions if you refuse etc. They can play you off one against the other. If you charge 2 dollars for your bag of cocoa, they will go to the next country that sells for 1 dollar. With a single African nation means a single price for AFRICAN cocoa. We can even charge 10 dollars a bag. If you don't like, go. As a resource-rich land, we are far more powerful acting as ONE COUNTRY. Or split up into 3 to 5 countries, MAX. Not 54 countries each taking orders from some colonial power, IMF etc, all because you are to weak to stand up to them on your own. Why should a country like FRANCE be able to influence countries across West Africa, even deploying troops to prop up stooge regimes? THEY CAN NEVER TRY THAT IN A UNITED AFRICA, because that is tantamount to a declaration of war. And trust me, the first thing the United Africa nation will do is acquire NUCLEAR WEAPONS. So that any foreign white idiot that thinks he can invade Africa will think twice. Listen to the Museveni speech posted. 1 Like |

Within our small countries we are not united. So how then can we have United Africa |
Re: It’s Time For A ‘United States Of Africa’. Discuss. by jazzman7711: 11:18pm On May 17 |
ednut1: Unity will be ENFORCED by the African Army. Mercilessly enforced. Can anybody mess around in China in the name of 'disunity'? Or you think there are no communities in China that hate each other? You can hate, so long as you don't disturb the public peace. Or go try looking for people to kill. If you try such, you are finished. After a while, you will get tired of hating, and get along with each other by force. |

Trade ptices and fair trade can be negotiated. Such regional cooperation should be done be organisations like Ecowas, AU etc but the more complex and big a country is, the less agile and more sluggish they are because to take important decisions, consensus has to be built. Look at European countries, they're are very samll and successful. France is able to manipulate these African countries because their leaders are corrupt. Any sovereign country can decide who comes within its borders. Again, Nigeria should be atleast five countries jazzman7711: |
Re: It’s Time For A ‘United States Of Africa’. Discuss. by jazzman7711: 11:36pm On May 17 |
DMerciful: You are wrong. The European countries you call 'small' are beneficiaries of a global financial system which favours them more than it can ever favour Africa. Do you know that to access development finance from the World Bank, a European country does so at 3% interest, while for African countries it's up to 20% or more? In addition to that, they will give you all kinds of conditions they don't give EUROPEAN countries. The so-called 'small countries of Europe' are also beneficiaries of USA military protection and NATO. So the skewed international financial system of which they benefit from is protected by US military power. Switzerland is a ''small country'' whose 'Swiss banks' store TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS in looted funds from all over the world. They are the most corrupt nation on Earth, Switzerland. But you will never see them on any list of corrupt nations. But they are on God's list. They have a tiny army that one Nigerian battalion can wipe out. But DARE WE INVADE THEM to demand our money? NAH.... The have NATO protection. So your small African countries are NOT in the same boat as 'small' European countries. YOU need to CONSOLIDATE and leverage your collective power to form a strong bloc. The ONE THING that scares the hell out of the rest of the world is a SINGLE AFRICAN NATION with ONE federal government. It completely changes the dynamics of the world. Absolute game changer. 1 Like |

Who will be the president of this united Africa? If it's the same shameless old f00ls like Tinubu and Paul Biya then the idea is dead on arrival.

Re: It’s Time For A ‘United States Of Africa’. Discuss. by jazzman7711: 12:10am On May 18 |
hodari: The main thing is we need to establish a continental LINGUA FRANCA, and then establish a political party that will be the ruling party. Their deliberations will be conducted in the continental language, be it Swahili or whatever they choose. I don't believe we should have multiparty democracy in the new African nation. Once the RULING PARTY has a VISION, and proper safeguards to ensure the vision is never abandoned, then it really won't matter who the president is. He will be elected by delegates of the ruling party drawn from all parts of the continent. If he messes up, he will be overthrown, and a new leader elected by the ruling party. If he does well, he remains in power INDEFINITELY. So his incentive to perform well is that he will be allowed to be president indefinitely. If Xi Jin Ping or Biden pass away today, will that lead to any problem in those countries? NO. Because their ruling parties already have an AGENDA and a VISION that will be observed, regardless of who is in office. 1 Like |

jazzman7711:My friend, you better realise the 1 billion Chinese all belong to the Han ethnic group and they all speak Mandarin. They're also a very intelligent people who have a collectivist culture (hive mind) So, it's very easy to implement such a system there. Similarly in the USA, despite having many different ethnic groups and identities, the ruling system is European and specifically White Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP). Here in Africa these fantasies won't work. Maybe only Bantu speakers can forge a common language and culture like Swahili since they're similar, but other major groups like Hausa-Fulani, Oromos, Igbos, Yorubas, etc will not accept this. Cultural affinity is very important aspect in forging a nation with unity of purpose and common strategies for development. That's why you have tiny microstates in Europe which are sovereign states like Luxembourg, Denmark, Estonia, etc The only way your idea can be implemented is having the present artificial African borders redrawn and setting up an integrated confederation like the EU. |
Re: It’s Time For A ‘United States Of Africa’. Discuss. by jazzman7711: 2:40am On May 18 |
hodari: So you are saying that Chinese people are more intelligent than your father, correct? Maybe they are more intelligent than your father and your mother, but they are not more intelligent than Africans or any other race of people. Secondly, all Chinese are NOT Han. The ethnic Han make up around 90% of the population. But they were not originally one people. They exist as a result of various confederating tribes known collectively as the Huaxia, who all had respective languages and dialects, before Han became the dominant one and everyone learnt to speak Han. If Swahili is made the African lingua franca, after 100 years or so, we would all technically be 'SWAHILI', just as the former tribes in China became ''the Han''. Doesn't mean we would lose our own ethnic identity, or no longer speak Igbo or Hausa. But our connection to the AFRICAN NATION would be as SWAHILI SPEAKERS. Just as our connection to Nigeria today is as English speakers. In fact Swahili has already been adopted as an official language of the AU, and it will likely be the continental lingua franca in future. And there is absolutely no ''FANTASY'' in any of this. The African Union has it in its CHARTER that political unification will follow the current economic unification. So it WILL happen. It's a matter of WHEN, not IF. 1 Like |

DMerciful: Very naïve thinking. Even if you have zero corruption and tribalism, you will still be subject to very high interest rates for World Bank development finance. You will still be tied to the dollar. You will still lack the muscle to resist IMF/World Bank dictates. You will still be subject to sanctions for deviating from their prescriptions. And you will still be militarily weak compared to other powers, meaning a small country like France and the Americans can still deploy troops in Africa and set up military bases, etc, to intimidate and control your leadership, further eroding your independence and dignity. WAKE UP. |

Rossiki with another funny thread. We're praying for Nigeria to divide into as much as 4-6 countries, because the leaders are unable to manage the bloated population, you're asking for more trouble. How does big population help any country?? Some European countries are not up to 5 million, but their GDP dwarfs Nigeria's with 200m people. |
Re: It’s Time For A ‘United States Of Africa’. Discuss. by DeathParade: 1:52pm On May 21 |
Sorry to rain on your parade, but even if Africa combines into one USA-like entity, currently, entire Africa's Combined Defence Budget is half of India's Defence Budget. And India's Defence Budget, while the third largest in the world, is still just 1/10th of USA's defence budget or 1/3rd of China's defence budget. So making Africa into a US-like entity will make African military one of the top 10 powers in the world. But not strong enough to tackle the top most superpowers alone, especially with the kind of internal security challenges Africa faces. Once internal security challenges are dealt with, that will unlock the true potential of Africa. Ofcourse, realistically, I don't think Africa can unite. Why would a country like Egypt want to become one with a nation like DRC? Also, doing so will reduce the number of UN seats Africa has from 54 to just 1. Imagine that. So for various reasons, it is not as good as option as it seems at first glance. If a lack of geo-economic might is your concern, perhaps Africa should look at the European Union model and NATO, where an economic model and a mutual defence pact, helps create a stronger Africa without giving up UN seats and without having to deal with awkward cultural mixes that are not compatible enough to be part of a single nation. |
