michlins: offerings were never part of the Bible. The early apostles collected offerings so as to help the needy and cater for the full time workers in the church.
Right now, it's different. Pastors are now richer than the church and probably don't need the money again. So this is a step in the right direction to take off the burden from the members After saying it’s not biblical you went on confirm it’s biblical by stating that the apostles collected offerings. What’s your definition of biblical please? NB: I’m just an observer 2 Likes |

No. The collections of the Bible church was not only for the needy. The assembly of God right from Deuteronomy has always take collections to cater for the general needs of the church and the needs of the ministers.
Jesus took offerings to fund His ministry.
Luke 8:1-3 [1]And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, [2]And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, [3]And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
You recall he had a treasurer in Judas who kept the funds?
John 12:4-6 [4]Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, [5]Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? [6]This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
John 13:29 [29]For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
The money was much, and it wasn't collection for the needy!
The Epistles teach giving well to pastors. It was a thing in the early church.
Galatians 6:6 [6]Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
1 Timothy 5:17-18 [17]Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. [18]For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
The welfare collection for the need of the church in Acts 5 and 6 was just an aspect of the need of the church emphasized there. Apparently, it's not the alpha and omega of Christian giving. The needs of the church could be anything: building needs, equipment, missionary journeys, church venue maintenance, etc. These are the needs churches have today...

Any human being who collects money from other humans on behalf of an unseen entity is a thief. You don't need a judge to tell you that.
Any human who gives money to another human with the mindset that he/she is giving money to the creator of the universe or any unseen entity is a big fool.
Any man who tells you he works for the maker of the universe is a thief. He works for his stomach. He must one day come to tell you his "all-sufficient " god whom he works for needs your money. The being behind the existence of the universe is not a human like Dangote, Elon Musk or Tinubu that will need workers and money. Wise up So what is your headache with people's money? Stupidity This is just cheap clout chasing in my opinion. Even Jesus who could send Peter to a fish to get money and who has the ability to turn water into wine and multiply food collected offering because the collection of offering does not only help the church to meet its numerous needs but it also helps the giver to receive more blessings from God so by stopping to collect offering assuming the pastor himself has the money to keep running the church he is still acting as a hindrance to his church members. The scripture says with reason that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Some people need to be well groomed before taking up roles and tasks that are exalted this pastor does not really understand the scriptures I can tell you this for free 1 Like 1 Share |

True Christianity helps to make sure nobody in the church has a need. You all contribute to offset each other’s needs
Acts 4:34-35 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need
This is true Christianity, not one preacher getting rich while his members become poorer. Those ones are not practicing Christianity 2 Likes |

Stay with what the bible says Lol. You obviously aren't a Bible student. Offering in churches simply means collection or giving. The origin of it is Bible giving and Bible's teaching on giving. Whether they pass baskets or they give before or after teaching, what matters is that there's got to be a giving. 1 Corinthians 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. Basket o. After preaching o. Before preaching o. Bible sha teaches devotion to giving to the local church and church leaders. 1 Like |
