It’s a good thing these artefacts are being returned! Looking at this issue dispassionately though, can we say that in a way the Binis got lucky despite the sad story that went with how the artefacts were stolen in the first place? I mean, can any of us honestly vouch that, had they not been taken away more than a century ago, that the artefacts would have survived intact and in the good condition they are today? A somewhat similar parallel can be drawn from how Nigerians handled their country…it’s economy, infrastructure, values and unity/cohesion the moment the colonials left us to our own devices! This may ruffle a few feathers, but if we’re honest with ourselves we’d admit we do a poor job at managing anything!
