The Kimberley Magistrates’ Court in the Northern Cape has refused bail to eight Nigerian nationals accused of various charges including malicious damage to property, interference with the law, assault, and public violence.

According to reports, the arrests followed an altercation between the suspects and the South African Police Service (SAPS), where police officers were allegedly attacked, and SAPS vehicles were damaged.

The incident unfolded as police officers were reportedly pursuing information related to Nigerian nationals suspected of drug possession.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Northern Cape announced that the case against the accused has been postponed to July. The accused individuals include Onogu Nwaemeka, Kelecho Oken, Ebot Kennedy, Chijioke Steven, Charles Aknaji, Umemba Sophuru, Amajoyi Tochukwu, and Charles Okerie Onyedikashi.

According to NPA regional spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane, the confrontation occurred when the police attempted to apprehend a fellow Nigerian national, and the suspects allegedly demanded his release.

Senokoatsane described the chaos that ensued, with the Nigerian nationals purportedly attacking law enforcement officers and causing damage to property.

The NPA spokesperson also mentioned the utilization of an audio-visual remand system (AVR) for the accused during their next court appearance.

Last month, the SAPS Northern Cape provincial spokesperson, Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, detailed the events leading to the arrests. She mentioned the use of rubber bullets by police to disperse the crowd and the subsequent arrests of suspects for various offenses, including possession of drugs and public violence.

Ehlers explained how the situation escalated, with further damage inflicted on the police station and vehicles by additional groups of Nigerian nationals.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter, while the accused remain in custody pending their next court appearance.

Those who are not interested to abide by the laws of the foreign countries should return back to Nigeria instead of always disgracing us abroad

As if drug trafficking is not happening in Nigeria. Returning home automatically stops them from selling drugs?

Condemn what is bad, and stop the unnecessary shalaye. Are you proud of their actions? Selling and possessing drugs in abroad?

Is it a good thing for some people to keep on disgracing Nigeria and Nigerians wherever they go?

You know, they could have sent them chocolates instead for the destructions they caused. Would Nigeria police have used rubber bullets in this situation?

Make una stop supporting shameful things.

Lack of comprehension is your biggest problem.

Did I praise them? They disgraced themselves, not the country. Inferiority complex is what is affecting you guys that use that statement 'disgracing the country' because of the actions of bad Nigerians.

Chinese are doing some nonsense in Nigeria but they don't go shouting 'our chinese people are disgracing China in foreign land'.

You know, my curiosity about that your comments is if drug trafficking is now something justifiable

You even interjected whataboutism by mentioning Chinese, oh dear

You and 9ja police operate on same level of intelligence.

Those hoodlums were not armed with guns, that's why southafrican police who are obviously more intelligent than 9ja police chose to use rubber bullets to arrest the hoodlums.

If 9ja police use bomb to arrest them, they will prosecute dead bodies.

Here we go again.

They destroyed police station, destroyed police van without possessing guns, are you saying they could have murdered all the police in the area had they possessed gun during their madness.

Indeed, wonders don shellac.

If your brain sees it at justifying, then it is pathetic. Learn to comprehend!

POINT: Condemn bad and stop inserting ridiculous statement that they are disgracing Nigeria. They disgraced themselves, not Nigeria .

I know it takes you light years to comprehend something. So read my comment 1 million times so you can understand it.

It’s so unfortunate the way some of these folks keep giving Nigeria a bad name all over the world. They are the ones responsible for the visa ban imposed on Nigeria by UAE. They are still the ones mocking Mr. President and people like Abike Dabiri for running around to fix the mess they created between Nigeria and UAE.

Now, they are about creating more diplomatic problem between Nigeria and South Africa as a result of their insatiable appetite for criminality. If SA takes a general diplomatic action against Nigerians, they will be the first set of people to blame the president.

Sadly, there is no elder in that side of the country to call them to order. Peter Obi that is always doing Cho Cho Cho in every single national issue will pretend not to see this news. They all directly or indirectly support criminality in as much as it brings money.

You don't waste your time with people whose IQ is lower than a domestic donkey!!!!

Response to someone who voted Buhari twice back to back and a drug offender; Asiwaju is not worth the grind! No matter how hard you try to educate them, like half-past four eyes, they will always see East instead of West!

You are simply giving him credibility!

When Asiwaju was sanctioned for drug related offense, no body said Asiwaju, the current president of Nigeria is disgracing Nigeria or Nigerians because anyone, like Asiwaju is responsible for their actions.

Asiwaju sanctions for drug Offense in US didn't stop over 3 million+ Nigeria from visiting the US ever since, including yours sincerely!

Anyway, expect irresponsible comments from those who voted Buhari twice back to back and Asiwaju! They are capable of behavioral skills of a domestic donkey!

Like someone said above, it's not Nigeria they are disgracing even though they used Nigeria passports to travel there. Wondering why some people always have issue with their hosts.

As for Peter Obi, issue like this is none of his business, he his always cherry picking on issues. This can't be among

He worked as a treasurer for a drug gang. Tinubu's lawyer admitted that he forfeited 460,000 dollars to USA authorities which were proceeds of heroin trafficking.
